UNIFEST 2018-19 DR. BHIMRAO AMBEDKAR UNIVERSITY, AGRA 01. MUSIC GUIDELINES 01.1 Classical Vocal Solo: (Hindustani / Karnatic) 1. Only one entry per Institution is allowed. Duration of performance is minimum 8 minutes and Maximum 10 minutes. 2. Time for stage/ instruments setting is maximum 5 minutes. 3. Maximum number of accompanists is two. 4. Item can be presented in either Hindustani or Karnatic style. 5. Cinema songs are not allowed under this item. 6. Sufficient thought and care must be exercised in the choice of Raga and Composition. 7. Judgment will be based on the qualities like Taal, Selection of Raga, Composition and General Impression. 01.2 Classical Instrumental Solo: (Percussion - Taal Vadya) 1. Only one entry per Institution is allowed. Duration of performance is minimum 8 minutes and Maximum 10 minutes. 2. Time for stage/ instruments setting is maximum 5 minutes. 3. Maximum number of accompanists is two. 4. Participants must bring their own instruments. 5. Item can be presented in either Hindustani or Karnatic style. 6. Judgment will be based on the qualities like Taal, Selection of Raga, Composition and General Impression. 01.3 Classical Instrumental Solo: (Non - Percussion - Swar Vadya) 1. Only one entry per Institution is allowed. Duration of performance is minimum 8 minutes and Maximum 10 minutes. 2. Time for stage/ instruments setting is maximum 5 minutes. 3. Maximum number of accompanists is two. 4. Participants must bring their own instruments. Casio is not allowed. 5. Instruments of western origin adapted to the India Raga system are allowed. 6. Item can be presented in either Hindustani or Karnatic style. 7. Judgment will be based on the qualities like Swar, Taal, Selection of Raga, Composition and General Impression.

01.4 Light Vocal (Indian) 1. Only one entry per Institution is allowed. Duration of the performance is minimum 3 minutes and Maximum 5 minutes. 2. Time for stage/ instruments setting is maximum 2 minutes. 3. The number of accompanists would not be more than two. 4. Only non-film songs/ geet/ ghazal/ bhajan/ shabad and abhangas can be presented. 5. Judgment will be made on the qualities like Swar, Taal, Selection of Raga, Composition and General Impression. 01.5 Folk Singing (Solo): 1. Only one entry per Institution is allowed. 2. Time for stage/instruments setting is maximum 2 minutes. 3. The number of accompanists would not be more than two. 4. Item can be presented in any folk style. 5. Cinema songs are not allowed, Duration of the performance is minimum 3 minutes and Maximum 5 minutes. 01.6 Western Vocal (Solo) : 1. Only one entry per Institution is allowed. Duration of the performance is minimum 3 minutes and Maximum 5 minutes. 2. Time for stage/ instruments setting is maximum 2 minutes. 3. The number of accompanists would not be more than two. 4. Language of the song shall only be English. 5. Judgment will be made on the qualities like Composition, Rhythm, Coordination and General Impression, Appearance. 01.7 Western Vocal (Group) : 1. Only one entry per Institution is allowed. Duration of the performance is minimum 8 minutes and Maximum 10 minutes. 2. Time for stage/ instruments setting is maximum 4 minutes. 3. The number of accompanists would not be more than two. 4. Language of the song shall only be English. 5. Judgment will be made on the qualities like Composition, Rhythm, Coordination and General Impression, Appearance. 02. DANCE 02.1 Folk / Tribal Dance 1. Only one entry per Institution is allowed. Duration of dance should not be more than 6 minutes.

2. Time for sets/ instruments setting is maximum 5 minutes. 3. The number of accompanists including background Singers permissible is five. 4. The dance can be either primitive or a folk ( Indian Style) but not a classical one. 5. Three copies of a brief note giving the theme and the text of song if any, is to be submitted along with the entry form at the time of registration. 6. The participating team will be responsible for removal of their sets / properties etc. immediately after the completion of their performance. 7. Judgment will be based on the basis of Rhythm, Formation, Expression, Costumes, Make-up, Sets and Overall Effect. 02.2 Folk/Tribal Dance (Group) 1. Only one team (Min. 4 & Max. 8 participants) per Institution is allowed. Duration of dance should be minimum 8 minutes and maximum 10 minutes. 2. The number of accompanists including background Singers permissible is five. Prerecorded, CD/DVD & Filmy songs are not permissible. Only live singing is allowed. 3. The dance can be either primitive or a folk (Indian Style) but not a classical one. The dance may be from the theme of Braj folk. 4. Three copies of a brief note giving the theme and the text of song if any, is to be submitted along with the entry form at the time of registration. 02.3 Classical Dance (Indian) 1. Each Institution can send only one entry. 2. Maximum three accompanists are permissible. 3. The Classical dance can be from any of the approved schools of dance such as Kathak, Kathakali, Bharat Natyam, Manipuri, Kuchipudi, Mohinittam, Odissi etc. 4. Participant will be allowed minimum 12 minutes maximum 15 minutes. 5. Judgment will be based on the qualities like Taal, Technique, Rhythm, Abhinaya or Expression, Costumes, Footwork and General Impression etc. 6. Three copies of a brief note on the description of dance story involved in it, if any, and of the accompanying song, with its meaning in Hindi or English must be submitted at the time of registration. 03. LITERARY EVENTS : 03.1 Quiz 1. Each Institution can send a team of 2 persons. 2. There will be a written preliminary round of one hour duration and best 6 participants will be selected for the final. The written test will be of 50 questions of one mark each. There will be no negative marking. 3. Final rounds will be oral with audio-visual questions. 4. The specific rules regarding evaluation procedure, time to reply a particular answer and the type of round will be given before the actual start of the competition. 03.2 Gangadhar Shastri Memorial Debate (Hindi) 03.3 Pannalal Memorial Debate (English):

Common Rules for the events to be conducted separately 1. Each Institution will be represented by one team comprising of two debaters; one will speak FOR, while another will speak AGAINST the motion. 2. Maximum time allotted for Essay writing: 1½ hrs. 03.7 Poetry Recitation: Nazir Akbarabadi 1. Each Institution will be represented by one participant. 2. Medium of poetry recitation shall be Hindi. 3. Maximum time allowed to each participants shall be 5 minutes while minimum time will be 4 minutes. 4. The participants shall recite poetry of any author of their own choice or self composed poetry.

04. THEATRE : 04.1 Mono Acting: 1. Only one entry per Institution will be entertained. Duration of performance should not be more than 5 minutes. 2. The participants shall bring their own stage property, make up material etc. Light & general property such as ordinary furniture may be provided on prior information. 3. Judgment will be based on the qualities like Idea, Creativity of presentation, Acting Skills, Use of make-up, music and General Impression. 4. The Item may be in Hindi only. Participants are advised to choose a dramatic or other literary piece for enactment. 04.2 Mimicry : 1. Each Institution will be represented by one participant. Duration of performance should not be more than 5 minutes. 2. Participants may mimic sound of machines and speeches of well-known persons etc. including film personalities. 3. Marking will be based on: i) Skill imitating. ii) Variety of sound and voices imitation. iii) Presentation. 04.3 Mime 1. Each Institution will be represented by minimum 2 participants and maximum 4 participants. Duration of performance minimum 2 minutes and maximum 4 minutes. 2. Recorded instrumental music is allowed. 3. Judgment will be based on presentation, creativity and performance clarity. 05. FINE ARTS : 05.1 On the Spot Painting : 1. Each Institution will be represented by one participant. Maximum time allowed will be 2 hours. 2. The topic for the painting will be given on the spot. 3. Size of the painting will be half imperial size drawing paper i.e. 22 inches X 15 inches. 4. Painting can be done in oil, water, poster or pastel colours. 5. Candidates shall bring their own material like brushes, paints etc. Only the paper/ sheet will be provided by the Organizers. 05.2 Collage : 1. Each Institution will be represented by one participant. Maximum time allowed will be 2 hours. 2. The topic for the collage will be given on the spot. 3. Participants shall bring their own scissors, pasting and other material required for the contest. 4. The drawing sheet of the size 22" X 15" will be provided. Note : The participants are required to communicate the given subject/idea by using different media, Collage is neither a painting nor a cutting-pasting composition.

05.3 Poster Making : 1. Each Institution will be represented by one participant. Maximum time allowed will be 2 hours. 2. The topic for the Poster will be given on the spot. 3. Participants shall bring their own material. Only the Drawing paper/sheet 22"x15" will be provided. 05.4 Cartooning : 1. Each Institution will be represented by one participant. Maximum time allowed will be 1½ hours. 2. The topic will be given on the spot 3. Participants shall bring their own material. Only the Drawing paper of quarter imperial size will be provided. 05.5 Rangoli : 1. Each Institution will be represented by one participant. Maximum time allowed will be 2 hours. 2. Participants shall bring their own material. 3. Only one medium shall be used - Poster Colours or Flower Petals or Saw - dust or Pulses or Rice etc. without pasting. 4. The Participants shall have to prepare a Rangoli within the space provided. (3x3 sq.ft.) 0.5.6 Clay Modeling: 1. Each Institution will be represented by one participant. Maximum time allowed will be 2 hours. 2. Model will be prepared on the spot. 3. Topics/ size and other specific rules shall be announced on the spot. 4. Clay shall be provided. 05.7 Spot Photography : 1. Each Institution will be represented by one participant. Maximum time allowed will be two hours. 2. The participant has to bring his/her own digital camera. The camera should not exceed the size of 16 megapixel. 3. The digital camera should have a memory card which will he formatted by the judges before the commencement of the contest. 4. The participant has to capture 5 photographs on the theme announced on the spot by the judges. 5. No mixing, matching or morphing of photographs will be permitted. 6. Software such as Photoshop etc. for enhancing images not permitted. 7. The organizers will have all rights for the use of these picture as and when they deem fit. 8. Digital images are evaluated on the basis of Impact, Composition, Technical quality and Suitability for the specific theme. 9. The additional instructions will be announced on the spot.

05.8 Installation : 1. Each Institution will be represented by one participant only. Maximum time allowed will be 2 hours. 2. The topic will be given on the spot 3. The size of the installation should be 5' x 5' x 5' maximum 4. Participants can use all the material which they use in other art composition like cartooning, painting, rangoli, poster, collage and clay modeling. 5. Participants can use waste materials also which is available in the surroundings or can take any materials from outside also. 6. Participants are not allowed to use any already composed images or forms available in the market. They should compose or create their own image with the raw material. 05.9 Mehandi: 1. Each Institution will be represented by one participant only. 2. Participants shall bring their own mehndi and other material required for it. 3. The due credit will be given on originality, creativity, decorative art with aesthetic sense. 4. The Participants shall have to bring one accompanist and has to prepare Mehandi on the hands of the accompanist. 5. The total duration for completing the painting shall not exceed 2 hours. 6. The mehndi must be extended to the palmer side forearm with minimum six inch length. 7. The participant has to draw the mehndi on palmer side of both hands of the model. The model should be the student of the same college/institute. 8. Use of hand print, any kind of mold and any kind of decorative material is not allowed. IMPORTANT : The participants are requested to study the rules for the various events given above. The decision of the Judges appointed for different events shall be final and binding upon all. The protest, if any, should be lodged with the Convener of the competition within one hour of the end of the competition. No protest shall be entertained on matters regarding judgment. Protests can be entertained by the Jury of Appeal on matters relating to violation of rules or improper conduct of the contest. For representing the University at different level the best/deserving student among the participants will be selected irrespective of their position in Unifest.
