General Manager/COO Naples National Golf Club Naples, Florida About the Club Naples National was a hallmark project for Hurdzan/Fry, because it was our first course to make Golf Digest's list of America's 100 Greatest Golf Courses. This splendid course, always kept in meticulous condition, has allowed us to compete and land other topquality projects whose developers might not have considered us before. But what really makes Naples National so special, are the members who appreciate attention to detail and the staff who strive to deliver it. Starting at the front gate there is an aura of friendly and shared passion for golf that envelopes the entire property and golf experience. It is nearly impossible to look at a picture of Naples National without seeing stacked coral rock, rock excavated from the site about four feet down. Almost all Florida golf courses bury the rock or treat it as fill. To make Naples National different, we left the rock exposed and used it in various ways. Coral rock lines the ponds, stone walls bisect and frame the holes like old farm fences do in New England and Europe, rock walls support the tee decks, and coral cairns and bronze plaques give information about each hole. Naples National was perhaps the first to use this architectural device of stone in South Florida, giving it a visual distinction that other clubs lack. The rock also adds a different textural and color quality than the green turf, brown pine straw and native sand scrub areas. One environmental goal we had at Naples National was to limit the maintained and irrigated turf areas to the smallest acreage possible and still have a playable, fun golf course. There are about 50 acres of turf on the entire course, with the rest being sand scrub, yet the golf course plays fast and about the only lost balls are ones that go in the water. This golf course conserves water, fertilizer, pesticides and fossil fuels while still delivering immaculate playing conditions. There are many fabulous golf holes at Naples National, wrapped around wetlands, cypress hammocks, and significant trees. Dana's bunkering emulates low, rolling sand dunes, and the green surrounds are tightly mown chipping areas similar to Pinehurst No. 2. That alone was enough to qualify it for Top 100 status. But the people who've been attracted to Naples National make it just as distinctive; guys like Fuzzy Zoeller, golf writers and raters, and many CEOs of multinational companies who love its low-key atmosphere. Naples National has already amassed a rich history of golf lore, and each successive generation of members seek to extend that legacy and preserve the stature of the club that attracted them to become part of it. These folks love to play golf, and especially at Naples National because it was designed to be both challenging and forgiving, demanding yet fair, and a place to enjoy the company of other golfers who care about the game. Naples National is one of our personal favorites."

Position: Reports to: Supervises: General Manager/COO Club President and Board of Directors Golf Course Superintendent, Director of Golf, Executive Chef, Food and Beverage Manager, Membership Director and Controller Specific Responsibilities - include but are not limited to: Planning, Finance, Regulations Develops/coordinates the development of long range and annual business plans. Coordinates development of operating, cash and capital budgets according to the applicable budget calendars; monitors monthly budget and other financial statements; takes effective corrective action as required; approves vouchers before payment; and assists in the preparation of financial reports to the board of directors. Analyzes and monitors financial statements, and reviews income and expenses relative to plans, implements corrective measures as needed, and reports status monthly. Provides advice and recommendations to the president and committees about construction, alterations, maintenance, materials, supplies, equipment and services not provided in approved plans or budgets. Performs competitive analyses on clubs and other businesses providing member alternatives through personal observations and historical reports. Administration Develops and maintains a sound organizational structure. Serves as liaison between all management staff and the board. Coordinates inter-and intra-committee activities. Has ultimate authority over inter-departmental matters and implements policies concerning employee-employer relations. Establishes and monitors compliance with all purchasing policies and procedures. Prepares reports and other support material for committee and board use. Attends executive meetings. Adheres to established board media policies.

Operations Monitors the performance of all daily operations, functions and services; assures high standards and total customer satisfaction. Develops/implements general policies. Approves specific operational policies, programs, and procedures in harmony with the mission and general policies. Manages and oversees all accounting, inventories, banking, audit procedures, cash flow, and establishes controls to safeguard funds and assets. Serves as ex-officio member of appropriate committees. Oversees the care and maintenance of all physical assets and facilities. Coordinates the marketing and promotional programs to promote club services and amenities. Coordinates as necessary arrangements for public functions and social gatherings including seating according to protocol and special courtesies extended to members and guests. Has ultimate authority over inter-departmental matters and implements policies concerning employee-employer Relations. Handles emergencies such as hurricanes, fires, accidents and breaches of security or house rules promptly and in person, if necessary. Emphasizes prevention through training and inspection. Membership Ensures and initiates programs to provide members with a variety of innovative functions, programs and events. Ensure open communication and high visibility to customers by conducting daily walk-through of facility. Welcomes new club members; meets and greets all club members as practical during their visits to the club. Develops on-going dialogue and rapport with members through recognition and communication. Ensures the highest standards for golf services and programs, golf course and practice areas, food and beverage, recreation, entertainment, and other facility services. Reports member infractions to the board for necessary action. Provide resolution of escalated customer service issues. Staff Establishes and approves workloads, work methods and performance standards Ensures accurate recording of hourly labor and timely, accurate payroll processing Works with subordinate department heads to schedule, supervise and direct the work of all club employees; confers with them about personnel related matters including compensation, job changes and performance evaluation Oversees and works with department heads to schedule, supervise and direct work of club staff Convenes and presides over meetings with departmental managers; conducts all facility personnel meetings Establishes personnel policies; ensures proper hiring, training, supervising, personal development and corrective action in accordance with fair labor standards and safety. Writes policy and rule directives or approves those written by department heads.

External Constituents Assures operational compliance with local, state, and federal laws. Negotiates and recommends board approval for contracts. Maintains knowledge and compliance with all lease terms and contractual obligations. Gives direction to and works closely with outside contractors, firms and individuals providing services to the club. Maintains relations with local, state and national associations that further the cause of golf. Maintains relations with police, fire, liquor control board, health department and other governmental agencies. Participates in selected community activities to enhance the prestige of the club; broadens the scope of the club s operation by fulfilling the public obligations of the club as a participating member of the community. Attend conferences, workshops, meetings, and trade shows to keep abreast of marketing and business trends. Knowledge, Skills and Traits PGA and CMAA Members must be in good standing. Certified Club Manager designation is preferred. A Bachelor s Degree in Business, Finance/Accounting, Marketing, Hospitality or related field is required. A minimum of ten (10) years of leadership and management experience in a private club or similar setting. Fundamental knowledge of the game of golf, rules of golf, private club operations and tournament operations. Act as a role model for all employees by demonstrating the behavior and work ethic expected of all employees. Strong organizational, planning and prioritization skills. Self-motivated with desire to promote and market. Service and customer focused attitude. Experienced in written and oral business communications. Remain up-to-date on customer relationship management tactics and strategies. Experienced computer user including; Microsoft Word and Excel. Proficient in other applications, i.e. email, internet, tournament and database. Conducts himself or herself in a responsible and professional manner always, while at or away from the club, and encourages other staff members to do the same to reflect the proper image of the club throughout the community.
