NEWS September 2018 BOARD OF DIRECTORS Randy Roe President Mark Girolamo Vice President Steve Nelson Financial Secretary Recording Secretary Jim Kain Tom Bozonelos Senior Sean Rumple Tom Reed John Martin Gale Verdick John Heiss Mark English Bob Arsenault Mark Kish Sargent at Arms Inside this issue: Upcoming Events 2 Events & Information 3 Sports & Gymnastics News 4 Menu & Calendar 5 Message from Your President Greetings My Fellow Turners, Volume 5 Issue 9 We finally made it. Fall is the Season upon us. Trees will soon be changing color, leaves falling on the ground, High School Football games on Friday nights and College Games on Saturday with Pro Football on Sundays. It won t be long and we ll be watching the World Series hoping our team has made it to the Championship game. Speaking of Champions I d like to say Thank You to some of Aurora Turners own champions. These are our fellow members who took time out of their busy lives to represent you and me at the American Turner National Convention held at Concordia Turners in Saint Louis, Missouri. The following members attended and represented our Club: Judy Armstrong, Tom Bozonelos, Joe Lusk, Donna Reynolds, Ray Seppelfrick, Craig Sniezek, Deb Sniezek and last but by far not least Ed Colton. To each of you we owe you our Thanks for representing the Aurora Turner Club at this meeting. I hope I didn t miss anyone but if I did I offer my apologies in advance. Our own Aurora Turner Club member Dave Liptak was reelected as National President for another term. Thank you, Dave, for all that you do as well as your fellow National Officers. Kim Swann and our Gymnastics leaders hosted an Open House for our Gymnastics program. I hope you all had a chance to attend, ask questions and register your children in some of the great programming going on at the Gym. Thank you Kim and Team. We re all looking forward to another great Gymnastics season. As it is Fall, I would be remiss if I didn t mention our Haunted Trails. Brad Evans and Sean Rumple have already hosted an organizational meeting or two and work has begun clearing out the woods up behind our Softball field to get them ready for another Spook-tacular pair of weekends of Fright and Good Fun. The Haunted Trails will take place the last 2 weekends of October so begin to plan ahead and let your neighbors and family know. We always have the concession stand open and a nice hot bonfire to take off the chill on a cool Fall night. See you there. Volunteers are needed and meetings are held every other Saturday in the Club Room at 11am; next meeting on September 8th. The Board of s has authorized some repairs that we have made to the club including a new roof over the concession stand and repair and replacement of some underground plumbing in the Woman's washroom on the lower level of the club. Just like at your home, we have to continue to maintain our building and grounds to keep small problems from becoming larger and more expensive. I am also in the process of obtaining 3 bids to have parts of our parking lots crack filled, seal coated and restriped. This will include the complete Sports Complex lot as well as the entry road to the club and the parking lot to the South of the main clubroom. This work will be completed this fall. I ask you to look over the newsletter and the calendar closely as we have many events coming up. Our Crossfire is starting the 1st Wednesday of September. Steve Nelson and his crew are ready to go and I m sure Steve has many new stories and anecdotes that he can t wait to share with you as he calls out the game. Watch for his protégé, Gale Verdick, to fill in for Steve on his infrequent nights away from the game he loves. Starting with the 1st Friday in October our Queen of Hearts game returns. Mark Girolamo and his crew are getting everything ready to make sure you have a good time on Friday nights at the Aurora Turner Club. Beginning Friday September 14th and following on September 28th, we are bringing back our Friday night Family Buffet. In October the Friday Family Buffet will start every Friday night. I hope to see all of you come up and enjoy the Buffet at a very reasonable price. Speaking of prices we have many great drink specials in September. Check the calendar. Ladies Nights, Bears game specials, Half price pizzas, $5.00 pitchers and $2.00 bottles. All of these add value to your Aurora Turner Club membership. I encourage you to sign up your friends and neighbors. We have a great kitchen and something to do for the whole family. Remember, As a member of the Aurora Turner Club you are also a member of the Illinois District of the American Turners and a member of the American Turners organization itself. Through your membership here in the Aurora Club you help to keep the costs low for over 2000 youth that participate in our sports and gymnastics programming here at Aurora Turners. We offer programming for youth of all ages and sports for men and women. There is no other social club in the Aurora Fox Valley area that offers you the value for your membership dollar that Aurora Turners offers. Aurora Turners is the largest and most progressive Turner Society in the United States. It s an honor to be your President. With all of the activities coming up this Fall I m sure I ll see you around the club. Thank you for being a member here at Aurora Turners. With Turner Greetings, Randy Roe, Aurora Turner Club President
