On-Ice Events HAHA Sponsored Camps HAHA runs camps prior to the start of the season and after the season ends for all HAHA registered players. Camps are free to all players having completed all registration requirements. These camps are listed on the website on the HAHA Camps page for each level. At times when numbers dictate, we will divide a level into multiple groups, to reduce the number of skaters on the ice. Fall Power Skating Camp (Bronwynn Pichetti): TBD will come in separate email Goalie Camps Typically scheduled for all HAHA registered goalies or those players interested in goaltending mid to late September. These are intended to teach basic skills and prepare the goalies for the pre tryout camps. In addition, this provides a good opportunity for younger players to try this position in a non stress environment. Goalie equipment is provided for players who wish to try the position. Periodically goalie sessions are scheduled during the season dates are communicated through the team managers and the HAHA website. Boys & Girls Fall camps Typically start the first week of October and run for approximately eight sessions concluding at start of tryouts for the Squirt (U10), Pee Wee (U12) and Bantam (U15) levels. Girls programs are operated as a coop. Ice time is split between the Hermantown and Proctor arenas. Boys Tryouts Tryouts are held for all Bantam and Pee Wee AA/A teams and the Squirt A team the second week of October. Near the end of tryouts, we typically reduce the number of skaters to give the coaches and evaluators a better opportunity to see the players function in practice and game situations. This reduced tryout squad will participate in a scrimmage or round robin scrimmage set for final team selection. All teams are formed prior to the MEA weekend. During the tryouts, evaluators will rank the players to assist in placement of all teams at that level.
Girls Tryouts Tryouts are held for all A teams the second week of October. Teams are tentatively formed prior to the MEA weekend (exception: U15 team posting may be delayed until after varsity tryouts are complete). During the tryouts, evaluators will rank players from top to bottom to assist in placement for selecting the B level teams. Communication regarding final team selection will be posted on the website. Outdoor & Indoor Ice Use All levels have practices scheduled on our outdoor ice that is maintained by paid HAHA staff. Practices are held at the Hermantown arena complex which has 1 indoor sheet of ice and 4 outdoor sheets of ice designated for practices and occasional outdoor games. 1 outdoor sheet is for Rink Rat only, and 1 additional sheet for pleasure/community skating. Typical outdoor ice flooding starts in early December. Most games are scheduled on the indoor ice sheet though Outdoor Rink 3 has player/penalty boxes and electronic scoreboard and does host occasional outdoor games. Rink 3 was center stage when Hermantown hosted Hockey Day Minnesota in 2010! In addition to scheduled practices at Hermantown, ice is also rented at various other local arenas. Girls Youth & High School hockey programs are a co op with Proctor. Every other week practices and games are rotated between the Hermantown and Proctor arenas. Post Season 4-on-4 Move Up Ca mps After the season ends and all teams have completed play, HAHA sponsors 4 on 4 scrimmages that run for approximately 8 sessions. These sessions are intended to allow players moving into the next level of play to skate with players returning at that level for their second season. Players attend the age level they will participate in next season. Our intentions are to show the players where their skill level is in comparison with the next age level of players and hopefully provide insight for the players and family for summer player development. Camp Schedules and Team Schedules Finding and tracking your players schedules All fall camp and tryout schedules are automatically uploaded to the HAHA website. During the camp and tryout sessions make sure you understand which group your player is skating with. Mites and squirts are typically broken up into 2 4 groups depending on the number of players (i.e. SQ G1, SQ G2 M1 G1, M2 G1, etc.) Our intentions are to rotate these groups to assure fair ice time and rotation of players on the ice to allow the coaching staff smaller groups to work with during the camps and tryouts. All Camp schedules and tryout schedules are listed on the calendar on the HAHA Home page under the HAHA Camps tab in the left margin. Once your player is assigned a fall camp and/or tryout group designation you will have the opportunity to configure the website calendar to feed their schedule to your smartphone using the ical app. See the notes at the bottom of the camp page under the calendar for configuration to display the appropriate team calendars. For additional information on configuring your player(s) calendar to your iphone see the training guides located on the Team Managers webpage found in the left margin of the HAHA Home page.
