If it was just a little bit cooler it would ve been perfect. Lots of door prizes, good food, and fun shooting, thanks to all involved. There are several matches left at the club this year and we need work days to get ready for the State Championship Wild Bunch (October 15th and 16th) and the Halloween match (October 29th and 30th) so let s plan on Saturday, September the 17th. If it s still hot we ll just start early and finish up by lunch. There ll be some targets to move around and an extra stage set up for Wild Bunch, not to mention our usual building maintenance. See you at the range. Special Range Notice Due to the Drought Conditions and Fire Hazard All Smoking is Limited to Designated Areas Only No Black Powder Use until Further Notice FROM The CVV President By Billy Bob Evans SASS# 53658 Hi All! Showdown is over and I would like to say it went off without a hitch but there were a few minor hitches. One that I thought was going to be a big one turned out to be minor, an error in the scoring program. When you look at the scores you may notice the times on stage 10 do not include the bonuses, but in fact the bonuses were counted when it comes to the rank points. After talking with CD Tom the author of our software, we found out the report printed the raw time and not the final time, BUT all calculations for determining rank point were done correctly. Because we scored by rank points everything is fine, it just printed the wrong time on the report. The detail report that shows misses, bonuses, printed it correctly but this report is 9 pages and is too big to put in the news letter, if any one wants a copy let me know and I will be glad to send it to you. I want to thank everyone who helped with Showdown, there are too many to mention here. We set one of the timers aside and those who volunteered will be put in a drawing for this timer. We will do the drawing at our next match and you do not need to be present to win.

Rob Stewart) 214-632-5780 hondarob2003@yahoo.com From Your Membership Coordinator By Rio Hondo Rob Attention: You CAS shooters in the Weatherford, Willow Park area! Lone Star Guns Gallery & Gear (321 I-20 West, Weatherford, TX) is interested in having some CAS action. Possibly on weeknights. Owner/Managers David Gor, Ronnie Harms, Gary Richardson showed me around their facility and we talked about how CAS could happen in their indoor range. Monthly Cross Timbers IDPA matches are hosted there, now. They already have in-house CAS expertise. Current SASS Southwest Regional and Texas State Champion, Texas Rick O'Shay, was working the showroom and working in the Gunsmith Shop was Brazos Ace. I invited David, Ronnie, and Gary down to see one of our LSFSC or CVV matches, at Ormsby Ranch, to see how we shoot fast at steel targets with rifles and shotguns and with our pistols drawn from holsters. They then would have a better idea of possible adaptability of CAS shooting to the Lone Star Guns Gallery & Gear range. If you are in the Weatherford area, stop in and see the Lone Star crew. You may find some shooting supplies you need or a decent gun deal. David is making plans for ammo reloading on a big scale. Let them know if you are interested in possible CAS shooting at their range and re-invite them down to Ormsby Ranch. Phone: 817-599-9275.

OBITUARY THE LIZZARD SASS # 47207 a.k.a. John F. Tanner Jan 4, 1940 to Aug 26, 2011 By Colt Holster SASS # 44859 This is a sad day for the family and friends of The Lizzard, AKA John F. Tanner. Texas lost a true son when my friend lost the battle with the big C. He fought long and hard for four and a half years, but it s hard to whip an enemy you can t see. He left behind his loving family, beautiful wife Sherry, son and daughter and granddaughter, his brother and those of us that were close enough to be considered family, but only temporarily, we will meet again. I met John 53 years ago in High School and along with David Love, ( Slow Hand SASS # 31560) we all grew up together, a three up team, if you will. The Cowboy Shooting community of central Texas will defiantly miss this ol boy. There was no such thing as a stranger at a match or anywhere else for that matter as Lizzard was a conversationalist to put it mildly and he loved the shooting sport. He joined the Navy out of high school and re-upped into the Air Force as a sentry dog trainer. After discharge from the service, he joined the Fort Worth Fire Dept., serving 31 years rising to the rank of Lieutenant before retiring. John was a doer, from building a house to over hauling his tractor, no job was too large or too small and he would drop his project to help another fellow with theirs with no complaints. He was a trickster with a sense of humor as big as Texas and a heart of gold. He has left a large empty space in our hearts hopefully to be filled with good memories and the wonderful stories left behind. You have crossed the great river safely to the other side, but watch for me, brother, I ll be close behind. FROM RIO HONDO ROB CONTINUED Many THANKS for the all-out effort put forth by Billy Bob Evans, Sidewinder Sid, Brazos Belle, Red Conneston, Cowtown Jack, Crooked Bullet, et al, that made CVV Showdown at Ormsby Ranch such a smooth running and safe success. All who braved the heat enjoyed a major fun main match and side matches and the preceding Wild Bunch Match on Fri. We especially appreciated the ice water supply, near the stages, and the wash-up stand near the kitchen porch. My personal thanks goes out to Black Powder Hayes and new CVV member Ranger Dunn, for their volunteer extra efforts. All, much appreciated. There was an impromptu Man-on- Man (grudge) Match, Sunday afternoon, following the Showdown awards. Winner was (unofficially) Rock Rotten. Now, let's get ready for Wild Bunch on the Brazos, the big Wild Bunch match on October 22 & 23, at Ormsby Ranch.
