2018 PROGRAMME
WELCOME! Welcome to the 2018 Martin Currie Rob Roy Challenge. Whether this is your first Rob Roy or you are returning to relive the challenge, we are confident that you will have a wonderful day out and you will leave with a great sense of achievement. With your help, we will raise funds to support our event charity partners, who this year are: Cyrenians, Horseback UK, Maggies, Marie Currie, Princes Trust and Scotland s Charity Air ambulance. Over the life of the Rob Roy Challenge your fundraising efforts have raised almost 4m for good causes and this simply would not have been possible without your participation and huge fundraising efforts. From all our charities, thank you once again! I would also like to praise the continual hard work, commitment and financial support we have had from WildFox Events, our event volunteers and our corporate sponsors. Without all their support we would not be able to stage such an amazing day. Good luck to everyone taking part. Enjoy a great day in the Scottish countryside and, if the going gets tough, remember your efforts are making a real difference. On behalf of all at Martin Currie. Alastair Reynolds (Chair, Martin Currie Charitable Foundation)

NEW FOR 2018 Welcome to the 12th Martin Currie Rob Roy Challenge. On behalf of WildFox Events, I d like to thank you for taking part and for your fundraising efforts supporting the wonderful charities nominated by the Martin Currie Charitable Foundation. This year the challenge returns with new enhanced options for participants. Kenmore Playing Fields is your Hub for the whole day and both Ramble and Cycle sections start and finish there. We ve designed an exciting and spectacular new Rob Roy Ramble Route taking teams through the stunning grounds of Taymouth Castle following Queen Victoria s road to the White Tower. The walk then heads east along the Rob Roy Way towards Aberfeldy before cutting back up through Urlar Estate onto the dramatic Glen Quaich Road and descending down into Kenmore. There are two cycle options either to Rannoch Village and returning to the Hub (Big Red) or continuing on to circumnavigate Loch Rannoch (Schiehallion s Shadow). There s lots of fun and games to keep families and friends entertained at the Kenmore Hub with a special Prize Giving before 8pm when the event closes. Enjoy yourself, dig deep and best of luck! INSECT ALERT MIDGES, DEER TICKS & LYME DISEASE The dreaded Scottish midge! Please come prepared and bring midge repellent with you. Midges shouldn t be a problem if you re walking, or there s a breeze, but they will be a nuisance when stationary. You may even want to bring a midge net to cover your face. Ticks are tiny spider-like creatures found in grassy, wooded and heathland areas. Ticks will drop on to passing hosts or crawl up and attach themselves. They prefer warm, moist and dark areas such as around the ear, the back of the knee and pressure points where clothing presses against skin. Some ticks carry Lyme disease, though not all of them. Prevention is key. Follow these top tips to minimise the risk of Lyme disease. Prevention is the best way so please take note of the following measures: 1. Keep your skin covered, wearing trousers tucked into your socks, and a long-sleeved top will help. 2. Use appropriate insect repellents over clothing and exposed skin. 3. Examine yourselves thoroughly after the event they can get anywhere, we mean ANYWHERE! 4. Know how to safely remove a tick. For more information see: www.tickbitepreventionweek.org 11
