Welcome to our quarterly newsletter about our running club, here in Paphos. It includes information about the races we ve participated in, our results, any general information about us and what preparations we re doing for upcoming races. November / December These months were dominated by two particular events the Cyprus International 4 Day Challenge, held on the 20-23 rd November and the club fancy dress run. Dealing with the former first, the weather over the 4 days was changeable, bright but notably cold at the half way stage on the half marathon and pouring with rain for the latter stages of the 10 km road race finishing at the harbour. Here are a few photos.
We had 8 members of the club competing in the challenge and one of them, based in the UK, brought over 11 other runners from the UK to compete over the weekend. So we decided to hold our own end of race Pasta Party at Martelli s Restaurant. Around 40 people attended and the night went well. All the winners were formally presented with their trophies by Debbie.
The winners were: Ian, 1 st in his age group and also won the half marathon and 10 km races. Fiona also won her age group and also won the half marathon and 10 km races (in fact she won every race in her group) Kevin was over from the UK and came first in his age group. Angela won her age group. Debbie, Alan, Jenny and Linda also competed, what a great team effort. Immediately following on from the last race of the challenge was the Paphos 10 km race, starting from the stadium, alongside the Aphrodite Half Marathon on the same day. Dave Dowd, Gerry Brant and Kiran Sehmi all completed the Half Marathon with Dave winning his age group. Several PRC runners ran the 10k. Okay, so now we come to the last race of the year the fancy dress run. This year we changed the venue and everyone that took part was wearing some outlandish costume they d either made especially for the event or acquired from some other reputable establishment. These photos have been posted on our Facebook page and generated a lot of interest even sparking off a guess the caption competition.
There are more photos on our Facebook page.
