2 Special Order Upholstery November 2007 To ensure that all Broyhill upholstery special orders use fabrics complementary to each frame, certain fabrics are only available on selected frames. These fabrics have been grouped together as Designer s Choice fabrics. Each Designer s Choice fabric is assigned a cutting characteristic from 2 to 9 that is available only on the upholstery frame as indicated at right. Please be sure that the cutting characteristic of the fabric is compatible with the upholstery frame of your choice. Fabrics with cutting characteristic 1 are available on all frames. 4 EXPLANATION OF FRAME NUMBERING SYSTEM All Broyhill Upholstery frames carry a four-character master frame identification, followed by a 1 or 2 character suffix used to further describe the item. Examples: , I. Care should be taken to provide complete frame numbers to avoid confusion or delays on orders. FEATURES Specific style feature information is listed in the price list. SPRINGS Broyhill uses specially designed spring units in all its styles. Wood accent chairs feature a latex webbing suspension system. All other styles use steel springs: coil springs or sinuous wire springs. DECKING All Broyhill loose seat cushion designs feature a durable material for decking. CUSHIONS Broyhill utilizes cushion cores engineered to provide optimum comfort and durability. Depending on style, we will use one of the following: Ultralux Plus density High Resiliency seat cushion wrapped in multiple layers of polyester fiber. Ultralux density High Resiliency seat cushion wrapped with polyester fiber. Featherplush 1.8 density High Resiliency foam cushion wrapped in polyester fiber and a down-proof ticking. The perfect blend of feathers, down and fiber creates a cushiony, down-pillow feel. The sewn pocketed cover keeps the feather fiber down blend material in its place. Opulux 1.8 density High Resiliency cushion with an ultra-soft foam top, a low melt fiber wrap encased in a down-proof ticking (DPT), and seven denier fiber blown into a channel casing. Pocket Coil Pocketed coils encased in a 1.8 density High Resiliency foam cushion with fiber wrap. OPTIONS The Broyhill Upholstery Division offers several upholstery options. Please refer to price list for options available on each style. All options are not available on all styles. Some options may be at an additional charge on specific frame styles as indicated in price list. Wood finishes are available only as shown in the price list. CONTRAST WELT Contrast welts are made in a fabric different from the body fabric and are available as indicated in the price list. To order a contrast welt, write "CW" after the body fabric, then indicate the welt fabric. Contrast welt fabrics are restricted to cutting characteristics #1, 4. Example: F/CW F. Body would be in F with F contrast welt. Bias welts are cut on a 45 degree angle to give the appearance of a diagonal. To order bias welt, write BW after the body fabric, then indicate the welt fabric. Bias welt fabrics are restricted to cutting characteristic #1 and #2. Example: E/BW E. Body would be in E with bias welts in E. 5 WOOD FINISHES Broyhill Upholstery offers many beautiful wood finishes. Please consult your catalog and price list to determine the finishes available for each wood trim style. The frame number indicates the finish. Please make sure to use the complete frame number when ordering. Example: I. Chair would have the Cherry finish on exposed wood. Finishes shown in the catalog are reproduced as accurately as possible. Finishes ordered at different times are not guaranteed to be a perfect match. CONTRAST PILLOWS Any Broyhill style that has accent pillows can be ordered with pillows in a contrast fabric. The first fabric listed indicates the primary (body) fabric, the second fabric indicates the contrast pillow cover. Example: E/ H. Sofa would be in E with pillows in fabric H. If a contrast fabric is not indicated the pillows will be upholstered in the overall (body) fabric. (See Wood Finishes, page 13.) PILLOW FRINGE/PILLOW BRAID A decorative pillow fringe or pillow braid may be added to the pillows of specific frame styles as indicated in price list. If a style has more than two pillows, pillow fringe or pillow braid is only available on the pillows noted (PF/PB) under Multi Pillow Fabric Application. To order pillow fringe write PF after the pillow fabric, then indicate the desired pillow fringe. Order pillow braid by writing PB after the pillow fabric, then the desired pillow braid. Example: L/PF158-01Z. Pillows would be in L with Z pillow fringe. Styles where pillow fringe or pillow braid is available on both sets of pillows require you list your fabric choices in the order shown below, listing desired pillow fringe or pillow braid after each set of pillows. Example: L/PF158-01Z/ L/PF158-01Z L will be applied on Pillows 1 with pillow fringe Z; Pillows 2 would be in L with pillow fringe Z. MULTI PILLOW FABRIC APPLICATION Styles featuring more than two pillows require that you list your fabric choices in the order shown below. Example: When ordering in I/ H/ I, the first fabric listed is applied overall, second fabric is used on 2 toss pillows (Pillows 1), third fabric will be on 2 toss pillows (Pillows 2). Note: If only two fabrics are listed on an order, first fabric will be applied overall and on Pillows 1', second fabric will be on Pillows 2' as listed below (page 2-3). 10 THE GOOD NIGHT SLEEPER BY BROYHILL The Good Night Sleeper by Broyhill features a top quality innerspring mattress. The sleeper mechanism includes a pop-up headrest for reading or watching television. Twin: (Mattress 37W x 72L x 5H inches) Full: (Mattress 52W x 72L x 5H inches) Queen: (Mattress 60W x 72L x 5H inches) Prices for mattresses sold to customers as separate items will be charged as follows: 5" Twin Innerspring $ " Full Innerspring $ " Queen Innerspring $ CANCELLATIONS The Broyhill Upholstery Division makes every effort to provide timely shipment of our products, whether special order or stock order. In order to provide that service we have developed systems that make it virtually impossible to recall an order once it has been acknowledged. It is for that reason that we have initiated a NO CANCELLATION POLICY. FABRIC SWATCHES & CATALOGS SPECIAL REQUESTS Broyhill Upholstery is an outstanding value because of our efficient manufacturing procedures. These procedures work best when we adhere to our standards and specifications. Consequently, all items are available only as indicated in the catalog and price list. We are not able to accept orders requesting variations in either frame design or fabric restriction. We also cannot accept customer s own material (C.O.M.) orders. REPAIR ORDERS All repair orders (cut yardage, replacement cushion covers and cores, arm covers and throw pillows, or other replacement parts) are charged an additional $5.00 handling fee in addition to the cost of the item. ARM COVERS Arm covers are available on selected frames at a cost of $25.00 per pair. When ordering arm covers please indicate the style and fabric as follows: Arm covers for in I - Tag customer Jones. Arm covers are NOT AVAILABLE on cut & sew applications. Cut & sew fabrics are designated as a cutting characteristic #0. Arm cover orders will be processed separately from Upholstery orders and shipped separately. Remember to order arm covers for each piece required. REPLACEMENT TOSS PILLOWS Replacement toss pillows are available on selected frames for a charge of $25.00 each. Toss pillows cannot be made for frames not originally shipped with them. Fabric swatches and catalogs remain the property of Broyhill Upholstery and we reserve the right to reclaim at any time. 11 FABRIC INFORMATION FABRIC NUMBERING SYSTEM All Broyhill Upholstery fabrics carry a 3 or 4-digit fabric pattern identification number followed by a 2-digit color number, and an alphabetical grade. For example: M or E. The complete fabric number must be provided to avoid confusion and delays on orders. CUTTING CHARACTERISTICS AND RESTRICTED FABRICS 0 Restricted Cut & Sew Covers available on specified frames as listed in price list 1 Railroaded Plain or all over design 2 Railroaded Stripes, plaids and flamestitch 3 Railroaded Centered pattern in 5-star layout 4 Vertical Plain or all over design 5 Railroaded Stripes, plaids and flamestitch centered on each seat and back section 6 Vertical Stripe pattern with true repeat 7 Vertical Centered pattern in 5-star layout 8 Leather 9 Restricted fabrics available on PILLOWS ONLY FABRIC AVAILABILITY All fabrics in the current Broyhill Upholstery fabric line are subject to immediate discontinuation, without prior notice. CUT YARDAGE Cut yardage is available on selected fabrics at the following prices per linear yard, 54" width: Grade E Grade F Grade G Grade H Grade I Grade J Grade K Grade L Grade M Grade N Grade O Grade P Fringes, braids, trims, vinyls, etc., are available at $6.00 per yard. FABRIC MATCHING STANDARDS Broyhill stripe and plaid line-up requirements- The inside back will line-up with one side of the seat cushion only. The inside arm will line-up with the outside arm. The seat cushions will line with the back cushions, front rail and skirt. The side panels will line to the side skirt. The outside back will line with the outside skirt. The double welt will line on the front of the unit only. * The standard for line-up is + (plus) or - (minus) ¼. *The procedure for applying the double welt involves lining the welt on the center of each cushion. The line-up then falls off as the welt moves outward. Because of repeat variations on the fabric, the line-up on the ends of a unit may vary to some extent. FABRIC CLEANABILITY RATINGS CAUTION: Never remove cushion covers for separate cleaning or washing, even though they do have zippers. Do not use bleach or any tumble method cleaning service as this may destroy the backing of the fabric or shrink or other wise damage the upholstery fabric. All fabrics used by Broyhill have a cleanability rating. The cleaning instructions for each rating are listed below. W - Spot clean only with water based shampoo or foam upholstery cleaner. Pretest a small, inconspicuous area before proceeding. Do not overwet. Do not use solvents to spot clean. Pile fabrics may require brushing with a non-metallic, stiff bristle brush to restore appearance. Hot water extraction or steam cleaning is not a recommended cleaning method. Cushion covers should not be removed and laundered. To prevent overall soiling, frequent vacuuming or light brushing with a non-metallic, stiff bristle brush to remove dust and grime is recommended. When cleaning a spill, blot immediately to remove spilled material. Clean spots or stains from the outside to the middle of the affected area to prevent circling. Use a professional furniture cleaning service when an overall soiled condition has been reached. Page - 8

12 S - Spot clean only with a water-free dry cleaning solvent. Pretest a small, inconspicuous area before proceeding. Do not saturate. DO NOT USE WATER. Pile fabrics may require brushing with a non-metallic, stiff bristle brush to restore appearance. Cushion covers should not be removed and dry cleaned. To prevent overall soiling, frequent vacuuming or light brushing with a non-metallic, stiff bristle brush to remove dust and grime is recommended. When cleaning a spill, blot immediately to remove spilled material. Clean spots or stains from the outside to the middle of the affected area to prevent circling. Overall cleaning by a professional furniture cleaning service only is recommended. SW - Spot clean with upholstery shampoo, foam from a mild detergent, or mild dry cleaning solvent. Pretest a small, inconspicuous area before proceeding. Do not saturate. Pile fabrics may require brushing with a non-metallic, stiff bristle brush to restore appearance. Hot water extraction or steam cleaning is not a recommended cleaning method. Cushion casings should not be removed and laundered or dry cleaned. To prevent overall soiling, frequent vacuuming or light brushing with a non-metallic, stiff bristle brush to remove dust and grime is recommended. When cleaning a spill, blot immediately to remove spilled material. Clean spots or stains from the outside to the middle of the affected area to prevent circling. Use a professional furniture cleaning service when an overall soiled condition has been reached. X - Clean only by vacuuming or light brushing with a non-metallic, stiff bristle brush. DO NOT USE ANY WATER OR SOLVENT BASED CLEANER. PILLING Pilling is a characteristic of many upholstered fabrics that results in excess fiber coming off the surface of the material. This release of excess fiber results in small balls or pills of fiber forming on the surface of the cover. This condition is not warranted by fabric mills because it is not a defect, the fabric is not deteriorating. When the excess fiber is gone the pilling will stop. Periodic vacuuming of the upholstery is recommended and shaving the fabric with a furniture or sweater shaver will restore the look of the cover surface. CARE OF LEATHER Genuine leather is a natural product and requires the proper care and preventive maintenance you would afford fine woods and fabrics. Avoid placing leather furniture in direct or indirect sunlight or near heating vents. Broyhill recommends twice-yearly cleaning to remove soil, body oils and perspiration, with products designed specifically for cleaning and protecting leather. There are two categories of Broyhill Leather: Protected and Aniline. Protected leather has a finish applied to the top of the leather that covers the actual surface and makes it the most resistant to the effects of everyday use. Aniline leather is colored with transparent dye and has very little or no protective treatment. The label beneath the seat cushions identifies the type of leather on the furniture. Protected Leather: Dust or vacuum with soft brush regularly. Clean soiled areas with a damp clean cloth. Never use aggressive substances such as stain removers, cleaning solvents, detergents, ammonia water or other chemical solutions. For heavier soiling or stains, use leather upholstery cleaner suitable for (A) Aniline leather. WEARABILITY RATINGS All Broyhill fabrics are tested and rated for wearability. These tests meet the Upholstery Fabric Industry Performance Standards approved by the American Society of Testing and Materials. Fabrics are tested for tearing and breaking strength, yarn slippage and change in appearance. Each fabric is placed in one of the following categories: H - Heavy Duty - This is our most durable rating. These fabrics are ideal for family rooms and areas of normal everyday use. M - Medium Duty - This is also a very durable rating. These fabrics are suitable for normal use but not recommended for heavy constant use. L - Light Duty - These fabrics are recommended for areas of occasional use such as a living room. These fabrics are selected for their beauty and aren't as durable as heavy or medium duty fabrics. They should not be used on reclining furniture. D - Delicate Duty - These fabrics should be used for decorative purposes. They carry the minimum rating of acceptability for Broyhill Upholstery use.
