RACE PREVIEW ETCC ACES ALL SQUARE FOR WINNER-TAKES-ALL IMOLA FINALE *Super 2000 Cup title goes down to the wire in Italy live on Eurosport *Fulín and Richard equal on points in battle for WTCC prize drive *Hilgenhövel and Rinke in fight for Super 1600 runner-up spot Petr Fulín and Kris Richard will face off for one of the biggest prizes in international motorsport when Imola hosts the FIA European Touring Car Cup season finale next weekend (30 September-2 October). In a winner-takes-all battle for the prize drive at a WTCC race weekend in 2017, Czech Fulín and Swiss Richard are equal on 92 points following an exhilarating campaign, which has included visits to the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife and Vila Real street circuit, plus Paul Ricard, Slovakia Ring and Magny-Cours. Fulín, a seasoned ETCC competitor, has triumphed four times so far in his Křenek Motorsport SEAT, while touring car rookie Richard is a five-time victor in 2016 for Honda-backed Rikli Motorsport. However, there can be only one outright winner of the ETCC s premier Super 2000 Cup and the accompanying prize drive. It means the results of qualifying, which awards points on a scale to the fastest three will be decisive in the final reckoning, should Fulín and Richard cancel each other out in terms of their race results at Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari. While the battle for ETCC gold will be firmly in the spotlight in Italy, third place in the final standings is between Richard s team-mate, the Swiss stalwart Peter Rikli, and Hungarian youngster Norbert Nagy, who drives an older-specification SEAT for Zengő Motorsport. Finland s Aku Pellinen, third in the 2014 ETCC Single Make Trophy standings, has been added to the Rikli Honda attack, while Igor Stefanovski (Macedonia) returns after missing out at Magny-Cours. However, the multiple FIA European Hillclimb champion will switch from Lema Racing to ASK Lein Racing in place of Serbian Mladen Lalušić. Boštan Avbelj (Slovenia) will join regular Lema driver Fábio Mota (Portugal), while Christjohannes Schreiber (Switzerland) partners Petr Fulín at Křenek Motorsport. Germany s Andreas Pfister, a former ETCC frontrunner, will make his first start of 2016 in his family-run SEAT, while Swiss wildcards Claudio Truffer and Adrian Spescha complete the Super 2000 Cup entry. SECOND PLACE THE FOCUS IN ETCC S1600: Niklas Mackschin secured the Super 1600 Cup title spoils at the previous round in France where teenagers Kevin Hilgenhövel and Tomáš Korený both took class wins. But despite Mackshin s second successive category crown, the 21-year-old German has opted against skipping the Imola finale in order to build his experience for the future and battle against his similarly rapid rivals, who also include Andreas Rinke. The German is up against ETH Peugeot team-mate Hilgenhövel in the race to finish second in the final standings with Rinke nine points ahead. Ulrike Krafft (Germany) returns to ETCC duty to take on fellow lady driver Ksenia Niks (Ukraine), while Germany s Daniel Niermann will also challenge for points. WEEKEND OVERVIEW: The ETCC is returning to Imola for the first time since 2013 and shares the weekend billing with the FIA European Formula 3 Championship and French GT Tour series. Track action begins with testing on Friday, Free Practice and Qualifying follow on Saturday and two 11-lap races take place on Sunday. Race 1 begins at 12h35 local time from a rolling start with the second getting underway from a standing start at 13h35. Both races will be broadcast live on Eurosport 2 and streamed as they happen at FIAETCC.com.

BIG YEAR FOR ETCC: It s a big year for the ETCC with a new two-tiered structure in place to streamline the competition. The headlining Super 2000 Cup is for the FIA s new TCN2 category, plus the TC2T, TC2 and Single Make Trophy class, while the Super 1600 Cup caters for cars such as Ford s Fiesta and Peugeot s 207. And there are two big prizes at stake with the S2000 champion winning a WTCC race weekend in 2017, while the S1600 champion gets a test in a new-generation TCN2 car. RULES REFRESHER: While the results of Qualifying will determine the grid order for Race 1, the results of the first race will decide the starting grid for Race 2, albeit with the top eight finishers lining up in reverse order. S2000 Cup and the S1600 Cup competitors will score points as follows: fastest three drivers in qualifying: The top eight finishers in each class in each race will score: A race-by-race prize fund of 25,000, jointly awarded by tyre partner Yokohama, will be split between S2000 and S1600 competitors. 4 Q&A: THE ETCC SUPER 2000 TITLE CONTENDERS Petr Fulín Age: 39 Nationality: Czech Car: SEAT León Team: Křenek Motorsport Points: 92 Wins: 4 It s a big weekend coming up. Are you ready? PF: To be honest I have a lot of racing projects this season and I have been approximately nine weeks without a break so I haven t had time to be nervous or anything like that. It s a very nice fight for the title with Kris Richard and we re equal on points. There is pressure but we will do our best and our team will do too. My team-mate Christjohannes [Schreiber] tested at Imola for two days but at the same time I had another event so I missed this. The break has been long since the last race and there can only be one winner. You have previous Imola experience from the ETCC s last visit in 2013 PF: I remember well because it was also the final race of the year. I was in a battle with Peter Rikli but he beat me so it was bad for us. I hope this year will be another story. I like this track, it has a strong history. What about your title rival Kris Richard has he surprised you this year? PF: I said to everybody he would be the strongest competition. He had some bad luck in the first race at Paul Ricard but came through well in the second race with the fastest lap. We was 10 kilograms more heavy when I first met him but I think he has understood what was needed to drive at this level. I have respect for Kris. He s very fast and it s been a very nice fight. Kris Richard Age: 21 Nationality: Swiss Car: Honda Civic Team: Rikli Motorsport Points: 92 Wins: 5 What are your feelings ahead of the Imola weekend? KR: I am definitely a little bit excited but also a little bit nervous. But I have some very good people behind me. I can prepare myself mentally very good. For me it s very important to win this title. I am totally a newcomer in this sport and it will help a lot for me to go forward in this sport, to find the sponsors again for next year and to go further in touring cars. How will you prepare for the event? KR: I prepare myself with a lot of cycling and running because when you are fitter it benefits in the car when you have a good and healthy condition. I was at Imola recently, we did a little roll out test and for me it was perfect to learn the track because I have never been there before. It s a really nice track with some fast corners and I really like it. Obviously many things have happened there with Senna dying and there are many things from the fans to remember him, especially at the place where he had his accident. And what about Petr Fulín how strong a rival is he? KR: He s a big rival of course. He s a very, very good driver and I also follow the results of the other races he does. He s one of the best in touring cars and I hope we see some nice fights and a good race overall.

CIRCUITS Circuit Paul Ricard (France, 1-3 April) Circuit Paul Ricard blends the old with the new in spectacular fashion. Built in 1969 and rebuilt 30 years later as a high-specification testing venue, the track s motorsport heritage is well documented with Formula One visiting 14 times between 1971 and The venue remains ever-popular thanks to its location close to the French Riviera and the country s second city, Marseille, while the ETCC visited for the first time in 2014 and returned for two sun-drenched races last year when the event moved from April to June. It s back to April for 2016 as the opening weekend of the season. Automotodróm Slovakia Ring (Slovakia, April) The Automotodróm Slovakia Ring was the setting for an unfortunate piece of touring car history in 2014 when organisers were forced to cancel the second of two WTCC races due to heavy rain the first time this had happened since the series was revived in But there were no such problems last season when warm temperatures and bright sunshine formed the backdrop to a weekend of entertaining racing. Located 40 kilometres east of the capital Bratislava, the venue was built between and regularly attracts big crowds, while the ETCC will make its fifth appearance in Nürburgring Nordschleife (Germany, May) The FIA European Touring Car Cup s first visit to Germany will be an event with a difference when the ETCC and FIA WTCC combine at the legendary German track for two split-grid races. Eurosport Events promotes both championships and while they will be on the demanding kilometre circuit with its 64 mostly heart-stopping corners at the same time albeit for two separate three-lap contests, the WTCC drivers will take the standing start first followed two or three minutes later by the ETCC runners with two separate starting points used. Circuito Internacional de Vila Real (Portugal, June) A new addition to the ETCC for 2016 and the first street track in the championship s current guise, this is a circuit full of history and intrigue. Racing has been held around the hillside roads of Vila Real since 1931, when Gaspar Sameiro and Ercilio Barbosa conquered the original kilometre course in a Ford Model A. Since then races have been run on and off, while the WTCC s arrival in 2015 signalled Vila Real s first world championship meeting. The kilometre layout used was a challenging blend of turns, climbs and descents with a handful of chicanes installed for safety. Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours (France, 8-10 July) Formerly a WTCC venue, Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours (the names of two nearby towns) hosts the FIA European Touring Car Cup for the first time in 2016 as part of the FFSA s GT Tour weekend. Home of the French Formula One Grand Prix between 1991 to 2008, Magny-Cours has been the setting of a number of two- and four-wheeled motorsport events since its revival and transformation in the early 1990s. Located 250 kilometres south of the capital Paris and measuring kilometres in length, the track s 17 corners means power and precision rather than outright speed are key. Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari, Imola (Italy, 30 September-2 October) Like Magny-Cours, Imola is another former Formula One venue on the ETCC calendar in 2016 and also the venue of a standalone ETCC event following four weekends supporting the WTCC earlier in the season. However, unlike Magny-Cours, Imola, which takes over from Autodromo Pergusa as Italy s round of the championship and the season-closing event, has hosted ETCC action before with two races taking place at the former San Marino Grand Prix venue in Located close to the town of Imola 40 kilometres east of Bologna, the track is named in memory of Ferrari founder Enzo and his son Dino.

SEASON SO FAR CIRCUIT PAUL RICARD: FLYING FULÍN NETS ETCC VICTORY DOUBLE Petr Fulín and Niklas Mackschin were double winners when the 2016 FIA European Touring Car Cup got underway at Circuit Paul Ricard in France on Sunday. Fulín, from Czech Republic, grabbed a Super 2000 brace in the Křenek Motorsport TCN2-specification SEAT León he drove for the first time on Friday morning, while German Mackschin stole the show in Super 1600, taking his GMA Autosport Ford Fiesta to a victory brace. Peter Rikli was twice on the podium in his newly-acquired TCN2 Honda Civic, René Münnich finished runner-up in the first race, while Norbert Nagy drove his older-specification SEAT to third. RACE 1 REPORT: FULÍN GETS ETCC 2016 OFF TO A FLYER: From second on the rolling start grid, Petr Fulín made his move on poleman René Münnich and pulled away in his TCN2 SEAT León. Honda Civic driver Münnich still took second place on his ETCC debut ahead of Peter Rikli. Norbert Nagy was fourth after slipping back from his early second at the start. ETCC newcomer Kris Richard was sent spinning in the opening exchanges but produced a superb recovery drive to take fifth. The next five cars took the chequered flag within two seconds of each other, after last-lap contact between Mladen Lalušić and Christjohannes Schreiber. The Serbian did hold on to sixth in front of Swiss Schreiber, with Alexandr Artemyey, Fábio Mota and Pierre Humbert close behind. Super 1600 champion Niklas Mackschin took a dominant win in his class as the positions behind were swapped throughout. Andreas Rinke got up into second only to be repassed by Kevin Hilgenhövel, who was later handed a drive-through penalty for abuse of track limits. With Andrii Yevtushenko penalised for contact and Ulrike Krafft having an off-track moment, it seemed Rinke would take second after all only for Tomáš Korený to slip by on the last lap. RACE 2 REPORT: FULÍN GETS ETCC 2016 OFF TO A FLYER: Petr Fulín made it a double victory as he charged up from eighth on the reverse-race grid. Fulín was into third in his TCN2- specification SEAT León by the end of an eventful first lap. His Křenek team-mate Christjohannes Schreiber had made a good start to take the lead but slid wide at the first corner. When he rejoined, Kris Richard was sent facing the wrong way for the second race in a row this time suffering terminal damage. Polesitter Alexandr Artemyev held the early lead ahead of Norbert Nagy, in an old-specification SEAT, but on lap four, Fulín snatched first place around the outside of the fast Signes right-hander and went on to win by seven seconds. A good battle for second emerged late in the race as Artemyev defended from Nagy, with Rikli joining them once Schreiber served a drive-through penalty for contact. Rikli fought his way through to second ahead of Nagy and Artemyev, while Mladen Lalušić won a duel with Pierre Humbert over fifth. Behind hill climb champion Igor Stefanovski, Schrieber beat René Münnich by just 0.021s. Münnich had also been penalised after making a false start. Niklas Mackschin won again in Super 1600 ahead of Andrii Levtushenko and Ulrike Krafft. RACE WINNER QUOTES: Petr Fulín (Super 2000 winner, Race 1 and Race 2): It could have been a dream weekend if I won the qualifying but I am satisfied. It was a very difficult weekend because we only pick up our new cars in Barcelona on Tuesday. We used another tactic in qualifying but I drove a fantastic car in both races. It was not easy to pass René Münnich because he was very clever but then he had some oversteer. Of course the accident [at the first corner in Race 2] helped me and I was able to put on the new tyres at the front. Niklas Mackschin (Super 1600 winner, Race 1 and Race 2): It was really tough out there with some big fights but I was happy to win and for me I can say it was a dream weekend.

SEASON SO FAR SLOVAKIA RING: RICHARD RISES TO CLAIM FIRST ETCC WINS FIA European Touring Car Cup newcomer Kris Richard starred in just his second event in the series to win both races at the Slovakia Ring. It was a perfect day for Richard s Rikli Motorsport team, with his fellow Swiss Peter Rikli finishing second on both occasions in his identical TCN2- specification Honda Civic and now leading the Super 2000 standings by a single point over opening-round double victor Petr Fulín with 21-year-old Richard five points further back. Fábio Mota and Mladen Lalušić were podium visitors while Ulrike Krafft and Nicklas Mackschin shared the class wins in an action-packed day for the Super 1600 field. RACE 1 REPORT: RICHARD WINS IN RIKLI ETCC ONE-TWO, WOE FOR KŘENEK Kris Richard claimed his maiden FIA European Touring Car Cup win in the first FIA ETCC Race of Slovakia Ring, with Rikli Motorsport picking up a one-two finish after both Křenek Motorsport cars were black-flagged. The rolling start was twice waved off because cars were not in the correct formation, and when the race did eventually begin, Richard made a great start from fourth on the grid to pass both Křenek SEATs into Turn 1. Polesitter Christjohannes Schreiber and team-mate Petr Fulín soon demoted Richard and were on course for a one-two, but their races turned sour when they were black-flagged for technical infringements. Richard therefore took the win on just his third start in the ETCC while team-mate Peter Rikli won a battle with Fábio Mota over third place that went all the way to the finish line. Mota had overtaken Rikli as they worked past S1600 runners on the final lap, but Rikli swept around the outside of the final kink to get his Honda Civic to the line just seconds ahead. Norbert Nagy took fourth ahead of Mladen Lalušić, who survived a mid-race excursion into a gravel trap. Wolfgang Kriegel finished sixth on his ETCC debut ahead of Igor Stefanovski, who was forced to serve a drive-through after tagging Lalušić sideways on the opening lap. Ulrike Krafft won a thrilling battle for victory in S1600. Krafft led the early stages from pole before Nicklas Mackshin and Tomáš Korený took brief turns out front, only for Krafft to regain the advantage. She was soon knocked sideways, however, by Korený, allowing Andrii Yevtuschenko and Kevin Hilgenhövel past, but their races ended in the gravel trap almost immediately after they made contact. Mackshin therefore inherited the lead again but Krafft managed to find a way back past on the last lap for the S1600 runners. RACE 2 FLASH: ANOTHER ETCC ONE-TWO FOR RICHARD AND RIKLI Rikli Motorsport completed a perfect day at the FIA ETCC Race of Slovakia Ring with drivers Kris Richard and Peter Rikli finishing first and second again in race two. Rikli and Richard made flying starts in their TCN2-specification Honda Civics from the fourth row of the grid to lead the pack through the first corner, and Race 1 winner Richard moved ahead at the same point one lap later before sealing a double victory. Mladen Lalušić scored his maiden ETCC podium in third after winning an early battle with Norbert Nagy. Fábio Mota also worked his way past the Hungarian but for the second race in a row, the Portuguese driver lost a position at the finish line, this time by just six thousandths of a second, with Petr Fulín, who had started from the pitlane together with Křenek Motorsport team-mate Christjohannes Schreiber after their disqualification in Race 1, getting ahead. Fulín was on the grass on the final lap trying to get past the S1600 leaders while pursuing Mota. Schreiber finished sixth ahead of Nagy and Wolfgang Kriegl. Ulrike Krafft had started the race from the very front of the field after her eighth-place and class win in Race 1, but after being passed by the S2000 field into Turn 1 she was quickly under pressure from Nicklas Mackschin, who eventually got past on lap six. Ninth overall, Mackschin held on through an intense final lap to win the class ahead of fellow Ford

Fiesta driver Krafft and Peugeot 207 racer Kevin Hilgenhövel, with the other 207 driver Andreas Rinke beating Tomas Koreny to fourth. RACE WINNER QUOTES Kris Richard (Super 2000 winner, Race 1 and Race 2): It s amazing for me. In the first race I just thought don t crash like in Paul Ricard and the start was amazing. Then I felt more and more understeer and Schreiber was absolutely fast so I tried to keep my speed as high as possible. [In race two] the car was perfect at the start and then I felt I was a little bit faster than Peter. We spoke together before the race that we shouldn t lose time with big fights and as I came past him at the end it was special for me. Ulrike Krafft (Super 1600 winner, Race 1): Race 1 was one of the hardest races I ve ever had in ETCC. It was very special because I lost positions and then I gained them again. I think I had a collision with my team-mate and I also had a collision with Kevin Hilgenhövel. Not every situation was very fair driving, that s what I think, but in the end I won in the last corner so this was very special to have this situation together with Nicklas. Nicklas Mackschin (Super 1600 winner, Race 2): The first race was really difficult and exciting. In the first part I was on the front and then after five laps I was fifth. I don t know how. The second race was very good for me and Ulrike helped me a little bit. So the dream weekend it wasn t but it was a good weekend for me.

SEASON SO FAR NÜRBURGRING NORDSCHLEIFE: FULÍN FLIES, RICHARD CLOSES UP IN ETCC TITLE FIGHT Petr Fulín moved back into the lead of the FIA European Touring Car Cup lead with a narrow victory in the first of two races on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Kris Richard, who finished Race 1 just behind in second, took the honours in Race 2 and moves to second in the standings, four points behind Fulín. Niklas Mackschin hit back from his exit in the opening counter to take the Super 1600 laurels as David Griessner impressed on his debut by winning his class in Race 1. RACE 1 REPORT: FULÍN EDGES RICHARD IN THRILLING BATTLE Petr Fulín won the opening FIA ETCC Race of Nürburgring Nordschleife by slender margin of 0.132s ahead of Kris Richard. The Czech started on pole in his SEAT and got the better of his Honda-driving Swiss rival for his third win of Championship newcomer Teddy Clairet gave Peugeot s 308 Racing Cup a strong debut in third place with team-mate David Pouget just behind. Peter Rikli fought through from the back of the grid following his qualifying crash to finish fifth in his Honda with Christjohannes Schreiber completing the Super 2000 Cup top six. Austrian rookie David Griessner was the top Super 1600 Cup finisher on his ETCC debut followed home by ETH Tuning team-mate Andreas Rinke. Pavlo Kopylets and Daniel Niermann also finished but it was a tough race for S1600 title leader Niklas Mackshin, who was eliminated in a first-lap collision. Super 2000 Cup contenders Norbert Nagy and Igor Stefanovski crashed. RACE 2 REPORT: RICHARD HITS BACK AS SCHREIBER SHINES Kris Richard worked with way up the order to claim victory in the second FIA ETCC Race of Nürburgring Nordschleife. Starting seventh on the reverse-grid following his second place in Race 1, Richard climbed to third on the opening lap behind Fábio Mota and his team-mate Peter Rikli. Mota continued to lead as the cars headed on to the third and final lap, but his margin was just seconds over Richard, with the young Swiss driver moving into the lead. His victory means he and Petr Fulín both have three wins apiece from six races in Mota would end up fourth on the road in his older-specification SEAT only to be excluded when his car failed a post-race weight check. Christjohannes Schreiber beat his Křenek Motorsport teammate Petr Fulín to the runner-up spot in his TCN2 SEAT with Teddy Clairet fourth, David Pouget fifth and Peter Rikli sixth. Mladen Lalušić took seventh from the reverse-grid pole. After failing to finish Race 1, Niklas Mackschin bounced back to dominate the Super 1600 class, 23 seconds ahead of Andres Rinke with Pavlo Kopylets close behind in third. Sergii Kravets and Daniel Niermann also scored. Noise infringement issues prevented David Griessner from taking the start. Norbert Nagy and Igor Stefanovski were also non-starters, while Ulrike Krafft s hefty crash in qualifying meant the German Super 1600 frontrunner was also unable to race. RACE WINNER QUOTES Petr Fulín (Super 2000 winner, Race 1): Firstly I have to thank my team. We did a very good job. In the first race I was really trying to concentrate. I think I was maybe a bit faster in the second half of the track and Kris the first. But with the slipstream it made it very exciting. I am satisfied and I enjoyed it and I am pleased that we both finished without damage.

Kris Richard (Super 2000 winner, Race 2): For me it was amazing. I could drive my race and I m very happy that the car is in one piece, I really enjoyed it here at the Nordschleife and I think I ll come back again. It was also great to race at the same time as the WTCC grid. David Griessner (Super 1600 winner, Race 1): Race one was very good for me, I got a great start and took the lead. It was perfect. Then there was a problem with the noise of the car and we were not allowed to start the second race, which I don t understand. I would like to race again in the ETCC, probably next year, it s a great series and I ve really enjoyed racing here at the Nordschliefe. Niklas Mackschin (Super 1600 winner, Race 2): I was not happy after the first race, it was a bad situation. Race two was absolutely perfect and now I m looking forward to our next round in Portugal and driving on a street circuit for the first time, I m sure it will be very interesting.

SEASON SO FAR VILA REAL: FERNANDES COMPLETES DREAM DEBUT WITH HOME WIN Kris Richard moved joint top of the FIA European Touring Car Cup standings with his fourth victory of 2016 on Vila Real's taxing street track. But it was local driver Manuel Fernandes who thrilled the Portuguese fans with a dramatic home win in Race 1 when a puncture sent fellow SEAT driver Norbert Nagy wide and out of the lead. Nagy hit back with third in the reverse-grid Race 2 behind Fernandes as Richard charged through from fourth in his TCN2-specification Honda Civic to win. Petr Fulín was second in Race 1 ahead of Peter Rikli. But contact between the pair in Race 2 dropped Rikli out of contention and handed Fulín a drive-through penalty, plus the loss of his title advantage. Niklas Mackshin was a double winner in the Super 1600 Cup, while Kevin Hilgenhövel, Tomáš Korený and Andreas Rinke took category podiums. RACE 1 REPORT: FERNANDES SCORES HOME VICTORY Local driver Manuel Fernandes won the first FIA ETCC Race of Vila Real after passing Norbert Nagy at the end of the penultimate lap following a fraught battle. Nagy had led from pole position but he was under pressure from ETCC debutant Fernandes from the start, the the Vila Real residnet racer going straight on at the tight chicane on the second racing lap in his pursuit of the Hungarian. Two laps later, Fernandes got a run on Nagy and went side-by-side with his fellow SEAT driver, a move that also allowed Petr Fulín and Fábio Mota to catch up to make it a four-way fight. However, Mota s race would end soon afterwards when he lunged down the inside of points leader Fulín and hit the barriers, stopping on track and triggering a safety car. After the restart, Nagy was once again under attack from Fernandes and the latter was able to make his move with just over a lap remaining. On the brink of a maiden ETCC win, Nagy ran wide with a front-left puncture and was forced to pit. Fulín took second for Křenek Motorsport with Peter Rikli completing the podium in his Rikli Motorsport Honda Civic. His team-mate Kris Richard was given a drive-through penalty for reversing in the pit-lane before the race but was able to finish fifth on the tail of Mladen Lalušić. Niklas Mackschin led Super 1600 for the duration to score his fifth win of the year but there was lots of action behind involving Tomáš Korený and the two Peugeot drivers, with the Czech teenager overtaking Andreas Rinke and finishing right behind Kevin Hilgenhövel RACE 2 REPORT: RICHARD HOLDS OFF FERNANDES FOR A BIG ETCC WIN Kris Richard held a charging Manuel Fernandes at bay to win a dramatic second FIA European Touring Car Cup race in Vila Real and tie with Petr Fulín for the points lead. From fourth on the reverse grid, Richard was able to move into the lead through the opening corners past the Super 1600 runners that headed the starting order. He could then pull away from the rest of the field as his team-mate and team boss Peter Rikli looked to keep Fulín at bay. On lap five Fulín tagged Rikli into a spin under braking, allowing Race 1 winner Manuel Fernandes to move up into second. The local driver set about closing the considerable gap to Richard and was able to catch the young Swiss driver on the final lap, but Richard defended well to win by three tenths of a second as a gear shift issue took hold. Fulín was handed a drive-through penalty for the contact with Rikli, relegating him to sixth place and allowing Richard to tie with him for the championship lead on 72 points. Rikli was forced to retire, as was Christjohannes Schreiber, who parked his SEAT in the same position at the side of the track as he did when he retired in Race 1. After the disappointment of Race 1, Norbert Nagy surged from P11 on the grid and onto the podium in third, keeping home driver Fábio

Mota at bay. Mladen Lalušić took fifth ahead of Fulín. It was also a dramatic race in Super Tomáš Korený led from the outright reverse-grid pole ahead of Kevin Hilgenhövel and Niklas Mackschin, but on lap three Hilgenhövel locked up and tagged Korený into a spin. That handed Mackschin a second victory of the day and his sixth of the season to extend his points total. With Hilgenhövel serving a drive-through penalty for the contact that ended Korený s race, his fellow ETH Tuning Peugeot 207 driver Andreas Rinke was able to finish second. RACE WINNER QUOTES Manuel Fernandes (Super 2000 Cup winner, Race 1): I didn't get a very good start, I was expecting to go to first place immediately but of course it s not easy and Nagy I think has been a little bit slower than me but I was trying to make pressure, pressure, pressure all the time. I had one or two possibilities that I could overtake him but I know he will be angry as he had car damage so I didn t try, I didn t go for it but I was expecting some error and the error happened. I took opportunity and I got to first place so basically it was my race. Kris Richard (Super 2000 Cup winner, Race 2): Considering you look at the oil leak suffering that I have yesterday, yes it s really great to win the second race. In the first race, I had a drivethrough because I was rolling two metres at the pre-start down the box. If you told me that yesterday I could be on this place that I am right now in the second race I would not believe you. I see I had a very good start and make some gap between me and second and in the last two, three laps I feel the car and the brakes not good and in the second last lap sometimes I can t downshift, so one more lap I don't think that I bring back home the car because it was very difficult the last lap, and then this guy [Fernandes] come like, I look in the mirror and see no one else and I think okay, okay, I bring it home, bring it home and then oh no. So for me I m very very happy with it and I m thankful to the team they take out the gearbox two times this weekend so they do also a great job. I m very happy that the car is in one piece and I m looking forward to Magny-Cours. Niklas Mackschin (Super 1600 Cup winner, Race 1 and 2): Both race was really good for me, the first race was really cool but the second race from start on the reverse grid and the cars left, right I don't know where it goes (laughs). I m on the line and so yes and it s looking good for the championship.

SEASON SO FAR MAGNY-COURS: FULÍN AND RICHARD EQUAL ON POINTS FOR ETCC SHOWDOWN The FIA European Touring Car Cup title battle and a World Touring Car Championship prize drive will go down to the wire in Italy in early October after rivals Petr Fulín and Kris Richard shared the wins at Magny-Cours to draw level on points at the top of the table. Fulín claimed the Race 1 honours after Richard mistook a black and white driving standards flag as notice of a drive-through penalty and pitted on the penultimate lap, leaving Fulín to take his fourth win of the campaign, while Richard was forced to settle for fourth. But there were no mistakes from Richard in Race 2 as he stormed through from fifth on the reverse grid to take a lead by the end of the opening lap that he wouldn t relinquish. It was the perfect reward for the Swiss driver s Rikli Motorsport squad, who worked alongside mechanics from the rival Lein and Lema teams into the night to repair his Honda Civic after it was badly damaged when the 21-year-old crashed in qualifying, shortly after claiming his maiden ETCC pole. His father also completed a 1200-kilometre round trip to collect spare parts from car builder JAS Motorsport in Milan, while a Rikli team member drove a road-going Civic from Switzerland so its left-side windows could be removed and fitted to Richard s race car. Today s results mean Fulín and Richard will head to Imola for the season closer on 2 October equal on 92 points for what could be the closest finish in ETCC history. Elsewhere, Niklas Mackschin is the provisional FIA ETCC Super 1600 Cup champion for a second year running as teenagers Tomáš Korený and Kevin Hilgenhövel shared the class wins. Meanwhile, French driver Pierre-Etienne Chaumat bagged a debut ETCC Super 2000 Cup podium to underline his promise. RACE 1 REPORT: FULÍN PROFITS FROM RICHARD ERROR SEAT-driving Czech Petr Fulín s fourth win of the season came after a dramatic late twist when Kris Richard pitted from the lead in error. Pierre-Etienne Chaumat dropped to fifth after a hesitant rolling start but came back strongly, overtaking fellow SEAT driver Norbert Nagy (Hungary) for what turned out to be second in light of Richard s woe. Mladen Lalušić made a flying getaway to hold fourth initially but the Serbian gradually slipped back to fifth in his SEAT, surviving late contact with Peter Rikli when he caught a patch of oil dropped by Christjohannes Schreiber's stricken SEAT. Rikli was a double pit visitor with damaged left-rear suspension on his Honda, while Portugal s Fábio Mota took sixth after pitting early on for technical checks. Tomáš Korený claimed the Super 1600 Cup spoils in a thrilling finish ahead of Kevin Hilgenhövel and Niklas Mackschin, who wrapped up the division title for a second year running. With Korený delayed by two slow-starting Super 2000 Cup drivers, Hilgenhövel moved in front but later slid wide on a patch of gravel, which allowed fellow teenager Korený to take top spot. The pair made light contact on the final lap, leaving Korený needing a new front bumper for Race 2. Andreas Rinke, Ksenia Niks and Daniel Niermann also scored points. RACE 2 REPORT: RICHARD S REVENGE SETS UP TITLE DECIDER Kris Richard became a five-time winner in his first ETCC season after he charged through from fifth on the reverse grid to win race two as Petr Fulín fought his way up from eighth place to finish second. Swiss Peter Rikli held off Pierre-Etienne Chaumat for third, the Frenchman losing ground on lap two when contact with Fábio Mota braking for Turn 15 sent him wide. Mota s tenure of a podium place was short-lived, however, and his race would be over when contact

with Mladen Lalušić sent him into the wall heading to the Adelaide hairpin. Lalušić continued momentarily but was also forced to park his damaged SEAT. Norbert Nagy finished fifth behind Chaumat but could have been higher up the order had he not run wide exiting the final corner on lap four. Kevin Hilgenhövel beat Germany s provisional champion Niklas Mackschin to the ETCC Super 1600 class win with Race 1 victor Tomáš Korený third, Andreas Rinke fourth and Ukraine s Ksenia Niks fifth. Daniel Niermann s race ended in the gravel trap on lap three, while Christjohannes Schreiber was a non-starter following his suspected engine failure in Race 1. RACE WINNER QUOTES Petr Fulín (Super 2000 Cup winner, Race 1): I have to thank my team because, as usual, they did a good job all weekend. I was not able to overtake Kris because exiting corners in first and second gear the Honda is too fast [compared to my SEAT]. In third and fourth gears we were similar but the Honda had the advantage. I saw Kris [Richard] didn t wait for the green flag on the rolling start and I thought he stopped for this reason but then I found out he did a mistake. It s good for me but the situation is the same in the championship. Kris Richard (Super 2000 Cup winner, Race 2): I don t want to talk too much about Race 1 because I was an idiot. I think it was a drive-through but it wasn t. I see a guy with a black flag and the number 11. I think should I come in or not. When I don t and I have a black flag and I am disqualified or should I come in and maybe lose some places and not be disqualified and after the second lap we had no radio. For me winning Race 2 was the only answer. I was very happy with the start. Fortunately, I could pass [Fábio] Mota in the straight line and this was very important to make some gaps. After the fourth or fifth lap I hit the kerb a little bit too hard and there were some vibrations from the front-right and that took a little bit of speed out. In the braking points I tried not to brake too hard because I had in Free Practice a puncture and I don t want that to repeat again. I just drive to hold the gap between me and Petr. Tomáš Korený (Super 1600 Cup winner, Race 1): I lost two positions at the start and had to fight back. But then I got a bit lucky with the debris and Kevin [Hilgenhövel] just slipped on the debris and I got ahead of him and we fought to the finish. It was a good fight even though I made a small modification to the front of the car by the end. It s a racing expense so hopefully I won t have to pay for it! Kevin Hilgenhövel (Super 1600 Cup winner, Race 2): The race was good and at the start I could push. Then I started to look in my mirrors. Niklas could overtake Tomáš and was able to close the gap to me but I could win the race.

RULES Class structure The ETCC is split into two highly competitive classes based on car performance: Super 2000 and Super The headlining class, Super 2000, accommodates cars conforming to the new FIA TCN2 category plus the previous TC2T, TC2 and Single Make Trophy regulations. The Ford Fiesta ST dominates the Super 1600 category numerically but it now faces opposition from the Peugeot 207 Sport. Engines and turbos Only one engine is allowed per event, while no car may use more than six turbos during the season. Event format Each race weekend includes testing, free practice, a single qualifying session, plus two races of approximately 50 kilometres duration. With the exception of Nürburgring Nordschleife when standing starts will be used for both races, race one begins with a rolling start, while race two features a static getaway. While the results of Qualifying will determine the grid order for Race 1, the results of the first race will decide the starting grid for Race 2, albeit with the top eight finishers lining up in reverse order. Points and prizes The Super 2000 champion wins a WTCC race weekend in 2017, while the Super 1600 champion gets a test in a new-generation TCN2 car. A round-by-round prize fund of 25,000 Euros is on offer in conjunction with the ETCC s tyre partner Yokohama. It will be shared out between the two classes in all 12 races. For each category, points will be awarded as follows: Fastest three drivers in qualifying: Top eight finishers in each race: Double points will be awarded at ETCC Race of Vila Real as follows: Fastest three drivers in each class in qualifying: Top eight finishers in each class in each race: Success ballast A success ballast system is operated in an effort to equalise performance. All Super 2000 category drivers receive a 1kg weight penalty for each point scored, while for Super 1600 drivers it s 1kg for every two points. Tyres Yokohama is the official supplier of tyres to the ETCC. In order to control costs, tyre usage is restricted. For the first event a driver contests a maximum of 12 tyres may be used. For the second event, the number increases to 16, albeit with a limit of eight new tyres.
