Coed Kickball Leauge 1. EQUIPMENT All players must wear same color team jerseys at every game for the entire season. All games will be played with a 10" rubber kickball (league provided). Cleats are allowed however, NO METAL SPIKES ARE ALLOWED. Any equipment in question should be brought to the attention of the City official, they will make all final decision with regard to equipment. 2. ROSTERS / LINEUPS All players must be 18 and signed onto a roster/waiver. Only players on the roster and that have signed the waiver are allowed to play in the playoffs. Teams can add to their roster any time prior to the end of their final regular season game. Once a player has signed their team s roster they CANNOT be replaced or removed from the roster. Play consists of 10 players per side. Teams may not play with more than 6 male players in the field at one time. A team may play a legal game with six players from their roster (with a minimum of one (1) female). No outside subs are allowed. Teams may not pick up players to go over 10 or have substitutes. Kicking lineups must be presented to the City Official before each game. Once the lineup cards have been submitted to the City Official, they become official and you may add players to the bottom only. All substitutions must be given to the City Official as they are made. Teams may kick more than ten players; however, these teams must kick the same ratio (3 to 2) of fielding male players and female players, unless their opponent allows it. If only 2 female players are present at game time, each woman must kick twice in the first 10 kickers. Sample Kicking Lineups for various rosters 6 Players = 4 male players & 2 female players (both kicking twice)
7 Players = 5 male players 2 female players (both kicking twice) 8 Players = 6 male players 2 female players (both kicking twice) 9 Players = 6 male players 3 female players (1 kicking twice) 10 Players = 6 male players 4 female players (at least one girl kicks twice if less than 4 female players present) 11 Players = 7 male players 4 female players (at least one girl kicks twice if less than 4 female players present) 13 Players = 8 male players 5 female players (1 out of 4 kicking twice if needed) All players in the field must be listed in the batting order. There are no designated fielders allowed. In situations where additional players wish to kick, the line up must come as close to a 3 to 2 ratios as possible, even if some female players need to kick twice in the rotation. ***Male players CANNOT kick twice in the lineup to achieve a 3-2 ratio if a team plays with more female players than male players. Only one player will be allowed outside of the dugout while the team is kicking. All other players besides the on deck kicker must remain in the dugout. Injured Players: If a player is injured during a game, the captain must notify the City Official to remove the injured player from the lineup card with no additional penalty (unless the injured player is a female and her removal drops the kicking lineup behind the required ratio the spot then becomes an automatic out). An injured player that has been removed from the lineup cannot return to the game. Roster Checks: Players have the right to ask for a roster check of the opposing team after the start of the game and before the end of the game. These requests must be made with the coordinator during game play, and if it is found that the opposing team is playing with an illegal player (i.e. not on that team s roster or not signed) then staff reserves the right to remove the player and/or forfeit the game. City Officials decisions are final and roster checks may not be made by players once the game has finished. 3. GAME PLAY Game time is forfeit time. If the opposing team wishes to grant time for their opponents to show up, the game clock will be started and the team will be given a 10 minute grace period to get their full team on the field ready to play All games are 55 minutes in length OR 7 INNINGS; once the 55 minutes have expired we will finish the inning (unless the home team is up to kick and winning). Games during the regular season can end in a tie. There will be a 10 run limit per inning unless there are less than 10 minutes left in the game, at which point there is not a run limit (if a team is winning by more than 20 runs they will be held to 10 runs an inning) Once 30 minutes have expired it will be considered a complete game and the final score will revert back to the last full inning played, unless the home team is kicking and winning at the time. If a game is called due to any circumstance (weather, darkness, etc) and LESS than 30 minutes have expired, the game will be restarted from the beginning at a future time. 4. OFFENSE All kickers start with a 1-1 count and are allowed one courtesy foul. A kicker will be called out on the second foul ball. 4 balls equal a walk.
The strike zone extends to 1 foot on either side of home plate, and 1 foot high. A kicker is only allowed one 'strike.' If a kicker does not make an attempt on the second 'strike', then he/she will be called out. All kicks must be made by foot and must occur at or behind home plate. If the kick is made beyond home plate, it will be called a foul ball. Bunting is allowed but double hits will be called a foul and the ball must be kicked beyond home plate. Any ball that stops or is picked up on home plate will be called a fair ball. There are no guy-girl kicking order rules other than the 3 to 2 ratios. If a male is walked, and a female follows him in the kicking order, the female has the choice to take a walk or kick. City Official will enforce this rule upon request; however, they will not be responsible for notifying the kicker in each walk situation. No lead-offs or stealing, runners can leave the base once the ball kicked by the kicker. If a runner is leading off (off the bag when the pitch is made), the ball is dead and the runner is declared out. If a runner leaves early (after the pitch is made but before it reaches the plate), this play must be appealed by the defense. Players are considered out by one of the following means: (1) Striking out, (2) A fly ball caught by the defense, (3) A throw out at one of the lead bases, (4) The runner being tagged by the ball, (5) A foul out, or (6) A runner being struck by a thrown ball below the head while attempting to advance or return to a base. Since catching a fly ball in kickball is no sure thing, there is no infield fly rule. HOWEVER...there is a no "cheese" rule. If the City Official thinks a fielder intentionally misses or does not try to catch a fly ball in an effort to make a double play, or any other more advantageous play, both runners will be called safe. Base runner to defensive player contact will be closely watched by the City Official. Any excessive contact or collision will result in an out and/or ejection. This includes contact with the catcher. Sliding is allowed. Any sliding into a base to break up a double play, or any intentional (in the eyes of the city offical) interference with the defensive player, the runner and the kicker will be called out. 5. DEFENSE There are NO position requirements of any players (there need not be 2 females in outfield and 2 in the infield). Games will be played on a regulation softball diamond. The pitcher and fielders must stay behind a parallel line that runs from the 1 st base line to the third base line that run across the pitcher s mound until the ball is kicked. The catcher must stay behind the catcher line (which is 4 feet behind the front of home plate) until the ball is kicked. The catcher may move before the kick, however (s)he may not interfere with the kicker in any way (physically or verbally). If it is deemed the catcher has interfered with the kicker, the kicker will be awarded first base. If a male is interfered with, and a female follows him in the kicking order, the female has the choice to take a walk or kick. If the City Official deems the catcher is purposely interfering with batters the City Official may eject the catcher from the game. Pitches must be rolled underhand towards home plate. Pitches may not be bounced, only rolled towards the kicker. Pitches that bounce more than one foot above the ground will be considered an illegal pitch, and thus deemed a ball.
Pitches must be rolled at a reasonable pace, not extremely fast or extremely slow. The City Official will monitor this rule and will call a 'ball' if the pitch is too fast or too slow to keep both teams equal. Breaking balls are not allowed. A breaking ball will be called if the break is 3 feet or greater in either direction from the point of release. It will be considered an illegal pitch, and thus deemed a ball. Arguing of an illegal pitch by either side will not be tolerated as it is a judgment call and excessive arguing is grounds for player ejection. Any foul ball caught in the air is an out. If a foul ball is dropped in foul territory, it remains as a foul ball. Players may be hit anywhere below the shoulders with a thrown ball and will be considered out. Hitting a runner with a thrown ball above shoulder level is not allowed. Any runner hit above the shoulders is considered safe and will be awarded an additional base. If the runner intentionally uses their head to block the ball, the runner will be called out. As soon as a runner is struck with the ball, it is a dead ball and any other base runners must stop at the base they were approaching except for home plate. If a runner is approaching home plate when another runner is struck with a ball, the defense reserves the right to make a play on the runner approaching home plate. All other runners must stop at the base they were approaching during this play and may not progress to another base while the defense is making a play on the runner approaching home. Defensive players may kick the ball to another defensive player to make an out. The ball must be kicked to another defensive player without making contact with a runner. The defensive player receiving a kicked ball from another defensive player must then throw the ball at the runner, tag the runner with the ball, or step on a base holding the ball for a force out. Defensive players may not kick the ball at a runner to make an out. If a defensive player kicks the ball and hits a runner, the runner will be safe and will be awarded an additional base. First baseman must have a foot on first base (not the safety bag) in order to make an out. The runner will be safe if the first baseman does not touch first base before the runner. All 4 outfielders must remain behind the grass outfield line when a female is up to kick. If the line is not clearly marked it us up to the City Official discretion if an outfielder is too close to the infield. There cannot be more than 6 players on the infield at any one time. Once contact has been made the outfielders may cross the line. If an outfielder crosses the line before contact has been made the kicker may be awarded first base. All thrown balls are deemed out of play when: The ball is thrown over the fence The ball is thrown beyond the fence The ball is thrown beyond the imaginary line extending from the end of the backstop (if there is no fence). This imaginary line applies to overthrows and caught fly foul balls. If the ball is overthrown and hits the fence behind the 1st or 3rd base lines, this is NOT considered out of play and the runner may advance, BUT at his/her own risk.
On overthrows out of play, the runner is granted the base he/she is going to (at the point of the throw) plus one more. Note: in cases where a base runner runs past first base, he/she must make a clearly aggressive turn towards second base to be granted 2nd and 3rd in overthrow situations. 6. FORFEITS If a team forfeits a game, their opponent will be awarded a 7-0 win. If you know in advance that your team is going to forfeit a game then we encourage you to call the George Mullen Center so we can inform your opponent. If your team forfeits a match during the season, the following rules apply: First Offense: Loss of the match and warning issued. Second Offense: Loss of the match and staff reserves the right to remove team from playoffs. Third Offense: Loss of the match and possible removal from the league. 7. SPORTSMANSHIP & EJECTIONS We facilitate fun! We hope that all participants keep that in mind when becoming involved in our leagues. Although the games may become intense, you still can be competitive while maintaining good sportsmanship. Any behavior deemed unacceptable by staff may result in ejection from the game and/or suspension from a game or the league, even if the event did not result in an ejection at the time. Only the captain is allowed to dispute calls with the City Official. Any excessive arguing or abuse of the City Official can result in the ejection of the player(s). Any player or fan is encouraged to root for their own team but rooting against teams or use of disparaging language is discouraged and could result in penalties of players or dismissals of fans. Any fans of teams may be asked to leave by City Officials. Refusal to leave could result in forfeiture of games Fighting is not allowed and will NOT be tolerated. All parties involved in fighting will be subject to ejection from the game at the City Officials discretion and subject to ejection from the league at the discretion of City Officials. Any player that gets ejected from a game may face league suspension for one or more games. City officials reserves the right to remove a player or team from the league after just one incident depending on the severity of the situation. Multiple ejections, even across multiple seasons, may result in permanent suspension from all City Officials activities. 8. PLAYOFFS All eligible teams make the playoffs (teams that have not abused any policies are eligible). Only players on the roster that have played 4 games and that have signed the waiver are allowed to play in the playoffs. Teams can add to their roster any time prior to the final game of the season.
If it is deemed that a player is not on a roster or has not signed the roster before the playoffs, the player will be removed and the team penalized up to and including a forfeit of the game. This will be determined by City Officials. It is the responsibility of the team captains to make sure all players in their lineup are eligible players for all games. Playoffs are single elimination. Game mercy rule: 20 run lead after five complete innings. Depending on schedule and facility constraints, some teams may need to play more than one playoff match per day. If a playoff game is still tied after 7 complete innings, the Texas Tiebreaker will be used, where each team will start the next inning with a runner on second base (the last out of the previous inning). This will continue until there is a winner. RANKING-Teams are ranked according to (1) winning percentage, (2) head to head record, (3) run differential, or if all others are a tie (4) coin flip.
