3 1 Welcome Congratulations on being selected as manager for the Spring 2018 Seaview Little League season. Your role as a volunteer coach is a fundamental reason we are able to provide the Little League experience to so many families in our community. Through proper guidance and exemplary leadership, the Little League program assists children in developing the qualities of citizenship, discipline, teamwork and physical well-being. By espousing the virtues of character, courage and loyalty, the Little League Baseball and Softball program is designed to develop superior citizens rather than superior athletes. 2 Board of Directors Spring 2018 Position Name President Bryan Bear president@bergelectric.com Vice President Paul Mason vp@seaviewlittleleague.com Sponsorship Sponsorship sponsorship@seaviewlittleleague.com Field Maintenance Ross Surrency resurrency@yahoo.com T-Ball/CP Coordinator Brian Sparks lowerdivcoordinator@seaviewlittleleague.com Upper Division Player Agent Lori Gradel upperplayeragent@seaviewlittleleague.com Lower Division Player Agent Randy Whitecotton lowerplayeragent@seaviewlittleleague.com MA/Majors Coordinator Open MC/MB Coordinator Open Auxiliary Chairperson Elizabeth Ugalde auxiliary@seaviewlittleleague.com Safety Officer Pat Evans safety@seaviewlittleleague.com Snack Bar Chairperson Open Information Officer Ken Moorhead info@seaviewlittleleague.com League Secretary Elysia Berger eweiner25@aol.com Treasurer Todd Ross treasurer@seaviewlittleleague.com Equipment Manager Brian Bernard bernardfamily5@verizon.net Umpire in Chief Jenn Moorhead uic@seaviewlittleleague.com Co-Umpire In Chief Kevin Voeller co-uic@seaviewlittleleague.com

It is the Manager more than any other volunteer that determines whether or not a player and player s family have a positive experience. With this in mind, Seaview Little League has the following expectations of its Managers: Provide a safe and positive experience for players and families Positive coaching, respectful of fellow managers, umpires and players at all times Reflect an understanding of the age group in which they manage Know the playing rules set forth by Little League International, local rules implemented by Seaview Little League and be able to interpret them correctly Are well acquainted with the player selection system outlined in local rules for selection of regular season teams as well as All Stars You, as managers, are responsible for the conduct of your coaches, players and families

Complete draft rules are covered in the Local Rules located at Be ON TIME! This event is CLOSED to the general membership and will only be open to managers and relevant league personnel. The integrity of this process MUST be protected at all costs All managers and coaches are expected to stay for the duration of the draft process There will be a 10-minute period following the completion of the draft to discuss trades of drafted players Cell phones must be turned off or left outside Always be prepared to make your selection within the time limit set by the Player Agent. This expedites the process for everyone present. Have a system to eliminate drafted players from your lists. It slows the process down when managers try to draft a player already selected

6 Upon completion of the draft, you will be issued a folder containing all emergency medical forms. Check your folder and be sure you have a form for EVERY player you drafted. If you are missing any, make the Player Agent aware of it IMMEDIATELY so the player s form can be located Notify players of their team assignments. These notifications should be made within 24 hours after completion of the draft process AT NO TIME SHOULD A FAMILY BE TOLD THE DRAFT LEVEL OR POSITION FOR ANY PLAYER! If contact cannot be made within 24 hrs, immediately let the Player Agent know. DO NOT trust leaving information on answering machines as sometimes information does not get conveyed accurately or at all within a household. Request a call back. You need to hear a LIVE VOICE. Keep notes of who you spoke to or that you left a message requesting a call back. When you get a return call, document that as well. This will help a Player Agent if their involvement is necessary There is no draft for Coach Pitch thru T-Ball. There is a Team Formation meeting 4.4 Team Meeting The following checklist is provided to assist managers in their organization and preparation for the first team meeting: Confirm date, time and location of team parent meeting o Hold your meeting in a location that can accommodate the players, parents and any siblings. Try and secure a room or area reserved for your meeting as public areas such as restaurants can be noisy and difficult to communicate clearly. This is a great time to patronize a SVLL sponsor restaurant (Lamppost Pizza, Zubie s, Mama s On 39, The Corner) or solicit a new business for your team sponsorship Construct a team roster which needs to contain the following information: o player names o parent/guardian names o addresses, phone numbers and addresses Team Meeting Outline Construct a team roster which needs to contain the following information Determine if player has transportation requirements to games and practices Provide parents with schedules as soon as possible. Provide locations and directions to all practices and games. Confirm required volunteers o Team coaches (if not already chosen) o Team parent(s) o Official scorekeepers for the team (recommend 2) o Volunteer umpires (recommend 2.) Majors thru Minor B will umpire different leagues. Minor C umpire own games. There will be umpire training given to all who want to be a team umpire. The training will be conducted by District 62 and or our umpire in chiefs. o Field Maintenance (recommend 2). Reinforce that good field maintenance will require minutes of time after practice and each home game. o Team photographer(s)

7 Discuss player-provided equipment Inform parents of team sponsor requirements Don t let parents leave without volunteering!! Inform parents of the communication process at SVLL Communication should be routed through the manager or Player Agent Discuss your philosophy on player positions, rotations, pitching, etc. Inform parents of local rules and policies involving pitching and player participation o Study and be familiar with SVLL Safety Plan and Safety Manual. These documents contain many requirements that are the responsibility of managers o Be familiar with the Little League Official Playing Rules as well as SVLL s Local Rules and Policies. Note: Local Rules and Policies attached at the end of this handbook and also posted at Volunteers Seaview Little League is an organization that relies on the skills and strengths of its volunteer base. The league itself is governed by a volunteer board of directors that oversees the operations of the league as well as implementing programs that continue the mission of Little League. The strength and future of Seaview rests in the support and assistance of volunteers. Our volunteers come from player s families, community members, college students, former ball players and other youth who are interested in supporting Seaview. There are many ways one can become involved so please ensure every family on your team volunteers before leaving the team meeting. 4.6 Practice Coordination Each division will have a designated division coordinator. He/She will be responsible for scheduling available practice times for teams. As you are probably aware, we are now having to pay for use of school sites and are being restricted on sites and the time available. This will require we all work together to utilize available time in a more coordinated manner than ever before. It is imperative that you request field use as well as advise of cancellations (especially at SVLL fields) to ensure that field time may be offered to other teams. 4.7 Scorekeeping and Game Results Scorekeeping Responsibilities For Majors, Minor A, Minor B and Minor C (only during regular season): Each Manager is to supply the opposing Manager, the Home Plate Umpire and the Official Scorekeeper with: The team lineup, including the uniform number, full names and starting positions Including a list of absentees and/or players who are being disciplined Report all substitutions when they are made to the Official Scorekeeper and Home Plate Umpire Pitching eligibility must be declared prior to the start of the game Each Manager and the Home Plate Umpire shall sign the Official Scorebook at the end of each game Game Results Notification Standings are kept for all upper divisions on the SVLL website. The winning manager or official scorekeeper of each game needs to the following information to scores@seaviewlittleleague.com by the end of that day in which the game was played. Date: Scheduled Game Start Time:

8 Division: Winning Team: Score: Weather Line: All field Status information will be updated on the home page of the Website based on weather conditions. Please check when questionable weather may affect games or practices. 4.8 Umpires Please encourage 2 or more volunteers for umpires. It is imperative that they attend the umpire clinics in learn basic training for their benefit and for the kids. Other information provided by: Jenn Moorhead uic@seaviewlittleleague.com 4.9 Safety In the event of injury during practice, game or other team function Use available first aid and if necessary, secure medical assistance as quickly as possible Notify the Safety Officer and President within 24 hours Complete a Safety/Injury Report and to Safety Officer Any injury to a player outside of SVLL activities (skiing, surfing, etc) that results in missing practice or games will require a note from Doctor to return to play Equipment Upon designation of your team, you will be given a time by the equipment Manager to pick up your league-issued equipment. At the time of equipment issue, you will be required to check all equipment received against a form used by the equipment committee and supply a $100 cash deposit to the league. The deposit will be returned at season s end pending return of all Seaview equipment Check and sign for all equipment in your bag For preseason practice and accountability purposes, it is recommended that you, in some way, label each piece of equipment in your bag with your team name and level. This will assure you will be able to keep track of all issued equipment As you label each piece of equipment, examine it for possible safety violations. Examples to look for would be batting helmets with cracks or catcher s helmets lacking throat guards. Bring faulty equipment to the attention of the equipment manager ASAP so it can be replaced with safe equipment. DO NOT utilize any piece of equipment that you deem to be unsafe. ALWAYS err on the side of caution Make it a habit to check your equipment periodically for accuracy of inventory and safety issues. Bring any issues to the attention of the equipment manager ASAP SVLL is strictly enforcing the Little League Bat rule that all bats used must be the new USA Baseball approved bats ( USABat ). All new bats must bear the USABat licensing mark. Visit the Seaview website for more details Please direct all questions pertaining to equipment and uniforms to:
