2 A WELCOME FROM EDDIE HEARN GOOD EVENING EVERYONE AND WELCOME BACK TO THE O2 FOR WHAT PROMISES TO BE AN EXPLOSIVE START TO A HUGE I feel a real transition starting to take place in British boxing. The older guard are starting to come to the end of some of their careers. We saw David Haye step away from the sport last May, Tony Bellew ended a brilliant career against Oleksandr Usyk in November, and so many other great Saturday night headliners are close to being in those final phases of their careers. Now it s time for the young lions to come through and show us what they are capable of. We want to give these guys a big platform to perform on and opportunities to shine. There s a lot of pressure on some of the fighters on tonight s bill. They all want to get on to that next level, and to do that they need to win and look good in doing so tonight. I m delighted to see young Ted Cheeseman headlining his first show at the venue he grew up just around the corner from. The Bermondsey favourite has passed all tests put in his way with flying colours and tonight he takes yet another step up when he challenges Spain s undefeated European Super-Welterweight Champion Sergio Garcia. At only 23 years of age, it s brilliant that Ted is willing to take on such big challenges so early on in his career. So many of our up-and-coming guys are willing to step up quickly and it s a great attitude to have. Garcia arrives on these shores with a perfect 28-0 record, this is a real fight and I m expecting Ted to shine. I can t believe we re finally getting to see Jake Ball and Craig Richards step in the ring together. It feels like we ve been waiting for this fight for two years. This is the definition of a must-win for both fighters. The winner will push on towards more title opportunities in the Light- Heavyweight division and the loser will find themselves out of the picture. Finding opponents that are willing to get in the ring with Lawrence Okolie is becoming a near impossible task. On paper, 2018 was a hugely successful year for him, picking up the WBA Continental, Commonwealth and British Cruiserweight titles. But the Sauce is his own worst critic and acknowledges that he is under pressure to reignite his explosive power. Tonight he defends his WBA belt against late replacement Tamas Lodi after his original opponent, Shawn Miller, failed to board his flight. Felix Cash is another one of our youngsters looking to get onto that next level. He won his first pro title last time out at the Copper Box Arena and tonight he looks to add a second when he faces Nigeria s Rasheed Abolaji for the Commonwealth Middleweight crown. Scotland s rising Super-Middleweight talent John Docherty has made an explosive start to his pro career, stopping his first two opponents early, and the Commonwealth Games bronze medallist is aiming for another KO on his O2 Arena debut this evening. Dillian Whyte s Heavyweight protégé Fabio Wardley looks to impress again as he gets his second big show opportunity. The undefeated Ipswich talent is hoping to make his mark on a thriving domestic Heavyweight scene this year, targeting the Southern Area and English titles by the end of the year. Scott Fitzgerald keeps busy in a scheduled six rounder ahead of his mouth-watering domestic clash with former Great Britain teammate Anthony Fowler in March. 3 CHEESEMAN: I LL NEVER SHY AWAY FROM A CHALLENGE THE BIG CHEESE READY TO CONQUER EUROPE Ted Cheeseman says he is ready to announce himself on the big stage when he takes on Spain s undefeated European Super- Welterweight Champion Sergio Garcia at The O2 in London this evening. The Bermondsey star, 15-0, inflicted a punishing defeat on Reading bad boy Asinia Byfield to claim the vacant British title last time out. A defence of the Lonsdale belt didn t interest The Big Cheese, who has instead opted to continue his push towards World glory. To be honest, sometimes you sit there and think cor, I could do with an easy one now, but as a fighter you love being involved in testing fights, said Cheeseman. You want to get everyone talking about you and to be known as someone that is tough and will fight anyone. I think I m starting to get a reputation as someone that won t turn down a challenge. I m one of those fighters who will always look at what opportunities there are out there for me. After the Byfield win, Charlie Sims asked me if I d looked at any opponents to defend my British title against. There isn t anyone else at British level other than Fowler or Fitzgerald that I d be interested in defending it against. I d rather not just have an easy defence and try to win the belt outright. I d rather push on and aim at what I turned pro to do, and that s to become a World Champion.

4 A step-up to European level has been difficult for fellow Brits such as Lewis Ritson, who suffered his first career loss to Francesco Patera at the Metro Radio Arena in October, but Cheeseman believes his ring experience will help him earn another impressive victory in London. On paper, Garcia looks exceptional, admitted Cheeseman. He s 28-0, 13 knockouts. A lot of people are saying to me Do you really need this fight yet? Is it a step too far?. But I ve got a good manager, a good coach. I m coming on in the gym all the time. These are the fights I need. I m pushing on and hoping to go all the way. I m feeling much more experienced now with my timing in the ring, my ring craft, and I can t wait to get in there and show everyone how good I am. I ve had test after test and I m 100% confident of getting the win. It s not like I ve just had one test and now I m stepping up. I ve done it for the last two years. I m firing on all cylinders in the gym, feeling really good. Cheeseman believes domestic Super-Welterweight rivals Anthony Fowler and Scott Fitzgerald must step up to the plate and earn the right to face him. The former GB teammates put their unbeaten records on the line when they clash in one of the most highly-anticipated domestic showdowns of the year in March, but Cheeseman is looking to step up again if he beats Garcia. There s a lot of potential fights being talked about and I want them to happen, but all of my focus is on performing well against Garcia and getting the win. Fowler is small fry once I ve got the European title. What does he bring to the table, a 9-0 record against journeymen? What has he actually done? Fowler needs me, not the other way round. Both him and Fitzgerald need to step up to the plate and do something to earn the right to face me. They ve got to bring something to the table. I ll be British and European Champion with top five World ranking. What do they bring to the table? I d need to make sure that a fight with Fowler or Fitzgerald isn t just good for them, it s good for me as well. This game is all about opportunities. There s some massive fights to be made but it s got to be the right opportunity for me. Maybe the Fowler fight gets made, maybe it doesn t. Liam Smith just signed with Matchroom, he s another Super-Welterweight. Kell Brook is in my weight class now. They are looking for other British opponents and I m the main man on the domestic scene. These are all fights that could happen later this year.

6 GARCIA: I M EUROPEAN CHAMPION FOR A REASON EL NINO DETERMINED TO KEEP EUROPEAN CROWN IN SPAIN Sergio Garcia hopes beating Ted Cheeseman in London will move him into the World title mix. The unbeaten European Super- Welterweight Champion has never boxed away from home but see the power of British boxing taking him further afield if he can get past Bermondsey s Cheeseman. It s not important because it is out of Spain, it is important because it is a defence of a title that we currently have in our power, said Garcia. This is an important fight at European level. The European mecca is London, so it is very important, a very important precinct. I am looking forward to fighting. After I have fought, I will travel and get to know places and people or whatever it may be, but my goal right now is to fight and arrive at the ring at 100 per cent and show everyone my best. I am sure it will be in the news here, with it being on Sky I am sure it will be known over here too. I think by winning in England is going to give us more than just talk and give us more possibilities at world level, of course. But right now, what is important is this fight, I am not thinking about anything more than this fight. Garcia won the vacant European strap with a one-sided unanimous decision over previously unbeaten Frenchman Maxime Beaussire in September. El Nino expects Cheeseman to be the toughest test of his career so far but is happy to be the underdog. He is an ambitious guy with a love of fighting and he is hungry to succeed but this is why we are training. I am sure he is studying me, and we are studying him and may the best man win. I am going to give my best and it s logical that they have him as the favourite, but I am going to go for it and show that we have the title and we have it for a reason.

7 OKOLIE: THE PRESSURE IS ON THE SAUCE VOWS TO REIGNITE HIS EXPLOSIVE POWER WITH KO WIN Lawrence Okolie has acknowledged that he is under pressure to reignite his explosive power at The O2 this evening. The undefeated Hackney fighter, 10-0, picked up the WBA Continental, Commonwealth and British titles in a hugely successful 2018, but was widely criticised for lacklustre performances Isaac Chamberlain and Matty Askin. This evening he defends his WBA title against Hungary s Tamas Lodi, after his original opponent Shawn Miller failed to board his flight to the UK, and The Sauce admits that nothing but an impressive KO win will suffice. I did a lot of learning inside and outside of the ring in 2018, said Okolie. It was a good learning year for me, but the excitement wasn t there and it s something I m working on. I ve packed a lot of experience into 10 fights. People need to remember that I m still young and learning every day. I said when I turned pro I don t want to waste time boxing lots of journeyman, this Saturday I have to because people in Britain are better at talking that fighting. I ll get the win and push on to big fight. I want bigger tests and more grudge matches in Finding opponents has been difficult but I need to stay focused and continue to build inside and outside of the ring. It s about balance, I was pushed fast in the amateurs and fast in the pros. There s a big gap from domestic to World level and I m still learning. For me, now it s all about putting into practice what I do in training in fights. I need to be a bit more relaxed and be myself more in fights. I need to progress fight by fight. I want to enjoy watching my own fights back. At the moment I m not, but we re working hard in the gym every day and on Saturday everyone will see the difference in me. Realistically, I need to be knocking this guy out and that s what I plan on doing. I m thick-skinned and I don t let criticism get me, but at the same time I acknowledge there s a lot of room for improvement.

8 BALL: TALK IS CHEAP CRAIG RICHARDS IS GETTING KNOCKED OUT THE BLADE VOWS TO SILENCE MOUTHY SOUTH LONDON RIVAL Jake Ball has promised to knockout Craig Richards when they clash for the vacant WBA Continental Light-Heavyweight title in Greenwhich tonight. The bitter rivals were scheduled to meet on the John Ryder vs. Andrey Sirotkin undercard at the Copper Box Arena in October, but a hand injury forced Ball to withdraw from the contest just days out, leaving Richards frustrated at his embarrassing opponent. Ball fought once during an injuryplagued 2018, halting Philip Kotey in September, but with his hand fully recovered, The Blade is looking to make a statement in his first fight under new trainer Dominic Ingle. It s my first full camp with Dom and everything has gone really well, said Ball. I ve improved all areas of my game since I moved to the Ingle Gym; speed, fitness and strength. There s World class sparring for me with the likes of Billy Joe Saunders. To move onto that next level, you need to surround yourself with likeminded people and everyone in the gym is striving to be the best. I m learning new things every day and we all push each other to our limits. It s brilliant to be involved in such a thriving gym and I m already feeling the benefits. I m looking forward to getting in there and being involved in Championship fights again. It s time to show everyone what I ve been working on with Dom, Craig better be ready. The pair traded insults at a heated press conference earlier this month, where Richards labelled No Balls a time-waster and questioned whether the Surrey man genuinely wanted to share the ring with him in October. Ball insists he is unfazed by Richard s accusations and is predicting an early night for Spider. He s dwelling on the past, said Ball. He keeps on sounding off about dates in October and December, but if I was him I d only have this Saturday on my mind. He still fought and got paid in October. I was the one that missed out on a pay check through injury. I don t know why he s frustrated I should be the one that s frustrated. He was very mouthy at the press conference, but I saw right through it. I could see fear in his eyes when we faced off. He doesn t want this, he knows that I m a level above him. The only opponents he s fought at Light-Heavyweight, apart from Frank Buglioni, are 5 9 journeymen. On Saturday he ll be in against a massive 6 4 Light-Heavyweight. I m a bigger puncher, better boxer and beat him in every department. He s not going to know what hit him come Saturday. Actions speak a lot louder than any words I can say. Craig Richards is getting knocked out. I respect Craig and I know he s a good fighter, but he isn t as good as me and it s as simple as that. I m not going to talk him down though. I m fighting Craig because he s a decent level and I don t want any easy knock overs. Like I say, he s a good fighter, just not good enough.

9 RICHARDS: JAKE BALL IS A TIME-WASTER SOUTH LONDONER ACCUSES BALL OF STALLING HIS CAREER Craig Richards is desperate to get one over on Jake Ball when the Light-Heavyweight rivals clash for the WBA Continental title this evening. The South Londoner finally locks horns with Ball after his opponent pulled out of their scheduled fight in October at late notice. Spider accepted Ball s verbal challenge but was left frustrated when the Dominic Ingle-trained fighter took to social media to post pictures of his injured hand on the week of the fight and has questioned whether the Surrey man genuinely wanted to share the ring with him in October. I ve lost a lot of respect for Jake, said Richards. The whole saga has been very frustrating. I just want to get the win and move on with my career. This has been dragging on for several months now and it s time to put an end to it tonight. All of his silly excuses, all of the delays and rearranged dates it s become a hindrance on my career and he s wasting my time. We ve become a bit of a comedy act and it s something that I need to get away from. I m desperate to beat him and look forward to a big He s been holding me up for too long now. We tried to reschedule it for December 22nd but it never happened because Dominic Ingle couldn t be in his corner as he was already busy. There s been a lot of excuses but there won t be anywhere to hide next month. For me, I m on a mission, I m hungry and I want to progress. I m not sure if Jake shares the same passion and hunger as me. Maybe that s why he s messed me around for so long. It s important for me to channel this frustration properly in the gym and on the night. The 28-year-old believes a win over Ball will earn him more title opportunities in the Light- Heavyweight division and says he is feeling the benefits of moving up to the 175lbs limit. I m ready to make my mark in 2019, said Richards. This year it s all about big competitive fights and pushing myself to challenge for more titles. Everything has started to come together nicely and the time for me is now. I m back at my natural weight and it s showing in all aspects of my game. I m punching with a lot more power in sparring and I m much more energetic outside of the gym. I ve got a spring in my step and I m excited about boxing again.

11 CASH: I WANT THE BRITISH TITLE NEXT WOKINGHAM TALENT TARGETS SHOWDOWN WITH LIAM WILLIAMS Felix Cash believes winning the Commonwealth Middleweight crown will earn him a shot at the Lonsdale belt currently held by Welshman Liam Williams. The unbeaten Wokingham talent, 10-0, is keen to make up for lost time as he takes on Nigeria s Rasheed Abolaji for the vacant Commonwealth title this evening. Cash picked up the first title of his professional career after cruising to victory against Stephen Danyo at the Copper Box Arena in October. He dominated his Manchester-based Dutch opponent throughout before receiving a unanimous verdict to claim the WBC International Silver belt. And the former Team GB amateur standout is aiming to add a second belt to his collection before targeting a shot a two-weight British Champ Liam Williams in A shot at a good domestic belt has been a long time coming, said Cash. The Commonwealth title is right up there and hopefully once I get my hands on it more fighters will be tempted to get in the ring with me. We ve been trying to make big fights for a while now, but opponents have always priced themselves out or messed us around. I ve flown under the radar a little bit for the past couple of years but my last fight was a title fight and this is for the Commonwealth. When I get the win on February 2 I can start targeting some big names in the domestic Middleweight division and show everyone what I m really about when I step up. I m looking forward to going in there and putting on a performance. The plan is to get the Commonwealth and then I want to go for the British. I m taking things one fight at a time, but I ve got full confidence in my abilities. Liam Williams holds the British and that s a fight that could happen this year. I ve sparred Liam before and he s a good fighter. He boxed very well in his last fight he looked class. You d be lying if you said he didn t, but I m very confident in my abilities. I ve sparred multiple World Champions and I know what I ve been doing to them, and they know too. Sparring is sparring but it s the closest thing to fighting. I know how good I am and it s my time to show everyone. Afonja Warrior, 27, has won six of his eleven career wins by KO and has previously fought in the UK when he took Sam Sheedy the distance in a challenge for the Commonwealth Middleweight title in Cash is expecting a hard night s work. He s quite dangerous early on so I ll have to stick to my boxing, break him down and then go to work on him. He s a bit of a hooker and doesn t throw many straights. Tony says he s very tough, so I ll have to go down and work the body. He ll be the best opponent I ve faced to date, but I fully expect to come away with the win.

12 DOCHERTY: I WANT TO FOLLOW IN RICKY BURNS FOOTSTEPS THE DOC INSPIRED TRAINING ALONGSIDE THREE-WEIGHT WORLD CHAMP John Docherty is determined to emulate gym mate and compatriot Ricky Burns by winning a World title of his own one day. The Commonwealth Games bronze medallist trains alongside Scottish legend Burns at Tony Sims gym in Essex. Burns created history by becoming Scotland s firs threeweight World Champion in May 2016 when he added Super- Lightweight glory to his Super- Featherweight and Lightweight titles by stopping Michele Di Rocco for the WBA title in Glasgow, and in doing so inspired a wave of new talent. Ricky is a legend in Scotland and someone that I ve always looked up to, said Docherty. It s an honour to train alongside him every day, I ve already learnt so much from him. He s one of the most dedicated fighters out there, never misses a session and always puts 100% effort in. His attitude is infectious, it s great to be around people like him. He s always sharing his knowledge and advice with me I couldn t be in a better place. He really is an inspiration to younger fighters like myself and I intend on taking full advantage of his wealth of experience. His dedication has taken him to the very top of the sport. It s one thing having the talent and ability, but it s his complete devotion to the sport that has got him to where he is today. I want to follow in his footsteps and bring a World title back to Scotland. I m aiming high, but what s the point being in this game if you don t want to be the best? Docherty, 21, has made a perfect start to life in the paid ranks, blitzing Jordan Latimer in 8 seconds on his debut in Newcastle in October before halting Angel Castillo in Florence, Italy a month later, and the Former Team GB member is hoping to carry his explosive form into Everything has gone great so far, added Docherty. I just need to keep on doing what I m doing in the gym and listening to Tony. I m improving every day and I ve got a great team around me. I ve been getting some great rounds in with Craig Richards, Ted Cheeseman and Felix Cash. I m feeling stronger than ever and I want another knockout on Saturday.

14 WARDLEY: I M READY TO BE LET OFF THE LEASH DILLIAN WHYTE PROTÉGÉ HUNGRY FOR TITLES IN 2019 Fabio Wardley says he is raring to be let off the leash and begin his attack on the domestic Heavyweight scene after a frustrating couple of years in which he only fought five times. The undefeated Ipswich talent looks to move to 6-0 when he takes on Frenchman Morgan Dessaux over six rounds on the undercard of Ted Cheeseman s challenge for the European Super-Welterweight crown against Sergio Garcia. Wardley, 24, is determined to climb the Heavyweight ladder after signing a management deal with World title contender Dillian Whyte, who also mentors Cruiserweight prospect Richard Riakporhe, and says The Body Snatcher is the man to kick-start his career. When I signed with Dillian and the team I said that I wanted to be as active as possible and they re sticking to their word and getting me out regularly, said Wardley. Right now, I m at the building stage of my career my main focus is on learning and developing. I was straight back in the gym after Christmas preparing for my next date. Being involved in a huge event like Whyte vs. Chisora 2 at The O2 gave me a massive buzz, there was no stopping me getting back in the gym. Dillian said that I did what I needed to do to get my opponent out of there. He was a good, durable opponent and gave me some rounds which is definitely what I needed after three first round stoppages. I wasn t tested or pushed at all, but the tougher fights will come as I progress. Dillian was happy with my performance and eager to get me out there again. I m ready to do it all over again on Saturday. I truly believe that I m in safe hands with Dillian guiding my career. He s someone that I have immense respect for and I trust his opinion completely. He s been there and done it, been through the thick of it, and for him to be managing my career is a big advantage for me. The advice that he passes on is invaluable and the sparring isn t bad either! Britain s Heavyweight scene is thriving, with unified Champion Anthony Joshua OBE leading the way, and Wardley who s sparred with the likes of Tyson Fury and undisputed Cruiserweight king Oleksandr Usyk believes 2019 is the year to announce himself on the big stage. I m definitely looking at titles in the next few months, added Wardley. I think I ll be ready to start throwing my hat into the mix in around six months if I can keep going at the pace I m moving at fighting every six to eight weeks. The Southern Area and English belts are the realistic options for me. I don t see any problems with going for them if I keep on pushing forward. I d go for them now, but that s just me. I m ready to be let off the leash but I trust my team to make the right decisions. I pay attention to what s going on in the Heavyweight landscape but at the same time I m focused on my own career. It s an exciting time to be coming through in the Heavyweight division, there s lots of options out there for me. I feel like I bring something different that other Heavyweights don t have. I ve got another golden opportunity to impress again on Saturday and it s on me to deliver.

15 SCOTT FITZGERALD Preston s Scott Fitzgerald keeps busy in a six-round contest against Radoslav Binienda ahead of his highly-anticipated domestic showdown with former Great Britain teammate Anthony Fowler at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool in March. Fitzgerald stopped Craig Morris at Arena Birmingham last time out to set up the mouth-watering clash with The Machine and says he has no problem with being labelled as an underdog against the 9-0 Liverpudlian. It s a fight that I m really looking forward to, said Fitzgerald. I always knew this fight was going to happen. I m the underdog going into this fight which is fine by me. Every day I wake up and I m really motivated. I m grafting at least two or three times a day, recovering and resting right. I was after this fight as soon as it was mentioned. I feel like I ve turned 27 and finally grown up. Every day I m doing what has to be done and that s not just in the gym, I m coming home and eating the right things and enjoying doing it because I don t want to lose this fight. I want to win it and I know I can win it. DANA ZAXO Explosive Hammersmith Light- Heavyweight prospect Dana Zaxo takes part in his fourth professional outing this evening in a four-round contest against Bulgaria s Tayar Mehmed. Savage made a perfect start to life in the paid ranks, destroying Justin Johnson in 40 seconds on his pro debut at York Hall in 2017 before stopping Georgi Valevski at the same venue in March In his third contest the Steve Goodwinmanaged fighter went the distance for the first time against Latvia s Jevgenijs Andrejevs, and hopes to mark his big arena debut with a KO in front of his hometown support. We got the call and we jumped at the chance, said Zaxo. This is going to be a big one for me, it s my first big show a lot of people coming along to watch me.
