4 Q&A... With Saturday side Coach Freddie Rogers This is a new opportunity for you, what did you make of pre season and how different it was to your previous side? Yes this is a new opportunity for me, one that I have grabbed with both hands, I was elated when I got the call from the manager Ashley asking me to come and coach and be a part of such a terriﬁc young ambitious side. Pre season was fantastic, going unbeaten and seeing all the players take what we do in training into games was delightful and showed how well they are preparing for the long season ahead. I had to change and adapt the way I coach players, coming into a new team under a new Manager you have to adapt your drills, ball work and game play in to a new style in which the Manager wants the team to play, what has a been a big difference compared to my previous side is the discipline level of the players, at Hamlets every player is very disciplined and wants to listen and learn. How do you feel you are ﬁtting in so far? I feel I am ﬁtting in really well, I am really happy and I have enjoyed every single minute so far, all the staff and players was very welcoming and the manager/players have trust and faith in what I want to bring to the team. I did not have the best time with previous side towards the end of my time with them and I lost a lot of interest in football a little but coming to Hamlets has completely changed that for me. Plus my partner has had some very serious family issues going on which has meant I have missed a couple of training sessions/matches but Ashley has been very understanding, been very helpful and not minding me being away which I am very appreciative of. Also I bring me son Henry to games and the lads are great with him and make him feel welcome so hopefully along with the other kids he can lead the lads out when we get to a ﬁnal. What have you made of the season so far? I think it is going brilliant, apart from the draw to TLS and one loss to Newtown we have had a great ﬁrst few months, we lost to Newtown but we was missing a few key players that game which is no excuse but if they was there then maybe it would have been a different game, we showed great bounce back ability in the next game where we showed our defensive qualities in a fantastic 1-0 win against SS Barking. He has done a great job in selecting a squad for the season; some players from last season did not make the squad but still got the opportunity to stay at Hamlets playing with our Sunday side so we do not lose them for good. The manager has a good eye for talented players, he always asks for our (Assistant Manager s and Coach s) opinions on the players he is interested in signing which show s he has great trust in us. There is a lot of banter with Hamlets, what do you make of it? It is brilliant, brings players morals up and gets everyone on the same level, we all know we can take the micky out of one another in the changing rooms and nothing will come of it, but when it comes down to the match everyone switches on and gets focused which is fantastic. The players all try to help one another if one of them have lost focus or confi dence, having team nights out is a bonus as it gets to show all the players on a social level as well. What do you hope will come out of this season for Hamlets I am true believer in being part of a team and not being an individual we win lose draw as a team, also as I always have said to players you make a mistake once you NEVER make it again those are the two thing I have drilled into every player I have coached/managed, that for me is key, but to be honest the lads already have shown they are a team from the very fi rst day I arrived here so that was a massive positive straight away. I truly believe the League title is there for us to take so we can move up to the Olympian League and start making a big name for ourselves, plus we have fi ve other cup competitions we are in, the icing on the cake would be the London Cup. That is what all teams dream of winning at this level. With the squad and staff we have hear I cannot see why we will not win them all. Is there anything else you would like to add or mention? Yes, for any sponsors reading this, we have amazing ambition here so if you are a potential sponsor read the booklet attached and just think about being a part of something special and a team that has dreams of making it all the way. Half time approached and the midfi eld of Harrison, Siddik and With was dominating the middle playing great football around SS Barking. Hamlets continued to push high and dominate the game taking it beyond SS Barking. The Hamlets forwards Gilroy, Oakley and Wells linking up brilliant causing SS Barking many problems. 75 minutes in and a beautiful move from Hamlets see Gilroy provide Siddik with a superb ball which Siddik converted from a very tight angle. At 3-0 up there was no way SS Barking was getting back into the game and Hamlets dominated and kept the ball well to see out the game and get 3 points which took them back to the top of the table. Man of the match was certainly Riley Richards who played out his skin, with two assists and had the SS Barking winger in his pocket all game.
