We are delighted to announce that Lee Frecklington has been named as this season s National Citizen Service (NCS) Ambassador. Lee Frecklington is one of 40 players across the country to have pledged support for the NCS programme. Back of the Net!
Rotherham United is at the heart of the community and Lee Frecklington is a wellknown name in Rotherham and so will play an integral role in helping raise awareness of NCS and engage with the wider community. Lee Frecklington will work alongside Rotherham Community Trust by visiting school assemblies, engaging with young people on NCS programmes, and celebrating the amazing work young people achieve whilst taking part in NCS. Lee Frecklington I m really proud to be chosen as NCS Ambassador for Rotherham United CST. NCS is a brilliant programme! It gives young people the chance to experience a variety of challenges while building new friendships and undertaking projects that help the local community. I m looking forward to getting involved in NCS this season and meeting the inspirational young people on the programme. I understand that last year they raised over 11,000 for 19 local charities and I can t wait to see if they can t beat it in Future Stars Holiday Camp gives children the chance to interact with each other, enhance their footballing skills through training and matches, all this can be done whilst having fun and keeping active. Prices are 12 per day or 40 per week! Venue: Wickersley School & Sports College Ages: 5-14 Times: 10am 3pm Date: 19 th 22nd December 2016 To find out more about out holiday camps please contact James Rawlinson or Sarah Newbould on Carole Foster, NCS Project Manager said We are delighted to have Lee as the NCS Ambassador, he is a credit to both the club and the trust. Lee has always gone above and beyond in support of Rotherham United Community sports trust and we are honoured he s able to support us NCS takes place across Rotherham with Rotherham United Community Sports Trust this spring and summer and is open to all year olds for 50. 3 spectacular opportunity. Not even Pele, one of the greatest players of all time, got to play at Wembley Stadium! As the new season starts gaining momentum, the coaches, players and backroom staff at Rotherham United are working hard to provide a successful season for our fans. We ll be doing our very best this season, but we now need your help to try and bring the prestigious Kinder + Sport EFL Girls Cup and Kids Cup trophies back to the New York Stadium. Last year over 2,000 schools entered the (two) competitions, with the finalists getting the chance to play at Wembley Stadium. The road to Wembley starts in September when our club will organise local competitions for all local schools who wish to take part. The Girls Cup is for under 13 girls and the Kids Cup is for under 11 children, and the winning schools will win the right to represent us in the national stages of the tournament and could progress all the way to the final for the prize of a lifetime playing football at Wembley stadium. There are thousands of professional footballers that have never got to play at Wembley, so to be in with a chance of stepping onto the hallowed turf is a Last season, Oakwood High School did a great job of flying the flag for Rotherham United in the Girls Cup and Thorpe Hesley Primary School represented us in the Kids Cup, but we know there are loads of great school teams in our area and many of you will want the chance to show off your skills at the home of football. So what are you waiting for? Why not take the chance to go down in history at your school and become local heroes by proudly representing your local League club?! To express your interest and sign up today please contact us via jrawlinson@rotherhamunited.net Our NCS team have raised the bar on this Summers social action project and created a fantastic new single to help raise funds for local charities. On Saturday 12th November 2016 the charity single Teary Skies will be launched at The Trades in Rotherham 7pm-11pm. Tickets can be bought on the door so be sure to come down and show
your support! Take a sneak peak of the vid before the single officially launches on itunes on Sunday 13th November on our website All proceeds from the purchasing of the single will go towards Safe@Last a South Yorkshire charity for runaway children. Since September we have been delivering Premier League Kicks across multiple sites in Rotherham. people from Ferham and Eastwood who are mainly from the Roma community, at present we have over 100 young people accessing weekly as one part of our wider Kicks project. We have used the delivery of Kicks as part of a wider engagement tool that has seen us take part in Rotherham s first carnival and graffiti art workshops. As an exit route young people who are in the under 16 age group have the opportunity to play in our grassroots club United 4 Communities FC. The club offers team s at u16 and open age football. The club is specifically designed for young people who need additional support to play competitive football, the club breaks down barriers by providing transport, kit and no match fees for our players who may also face various social and cultural barriers. This season all 16 u16 squad members are part of our kick programme and 10 players of our older age teams are also weekly participant at Kicks. The club enables us to have more weekly contact time with young people which is helping us achieve stronger outcomes. This is a similar path to our new starter Pavol who has been supporting young people as part of our Kicks programme. One of our Hub sessions caters for various satellites within the central belt of Rotherham which is amongst the most deprived in the borough. Since September we have delivered activities to young
many benefits, and starting with supported social rides is a brilliant way to begin. Cheers On the morning of Saturday the 26th November at the Biking to New York team, Stonham Volunteers and RUCST, will be starting to hold social bike rides from the New York Stadium. Jamie Noble, Head of Community said We are huge supporters of all health and exercise work not just football, cycling is a great way to stay fit and healthy whilst also see the beautiful surroundings and encourage people to leave the car at home to ease parking and reduce emissions We would also like the sessions to help identify those more accomplished cyclists who perhaps would like to consider representing their club on the massive Football to Amsterdam 2017 bike ride, on behalf of Prostate Cancer UK, Rotherham United and the Football League. For the first 2 rides, 26th of November and 10th of December we have been invited for Coffee & Cake by the Planet X team, on Magna Way, but for the rest of the season we hope to continue these rides on the canal path once it re-opens. Primarily, the hope is to encourage more people to share the benefits that cycling can bring to physical health and wellbeing, so the rides will be of an easy level. In addition to this, Pedal Ready and the Rotherham Cycle Boost (Hub) teams also plan to join us. Paul Truin, Volunteer Coordinator at Stonham, said, Rotherham Utd Community Sports Trust have always been great in supporting cycling initiatives, including fund raising rides for the National Autistic Society and Prostate Cancer UK. Following our volunteers promoting cycling, Biking to New York, during the past 3 years the next step of organising bike rides from the stadium came naturally. Regular cycling brings November is the month of Movember where men from all over the world grow a moustache to raise awareness of men s health issues. Rotherham United Community Sports Trust funded by BUPA UK Foundation are working with men in Rotherham to increase physical activity levels and provide a friendly and comfortable environment to encourage men to talk about their problems/feelings. Too many men are dying too young, FACT. We are hoping to tackle this problem through this project. Every hour one man dies from prostate cancer in the UK On average 13 men each day take their life through suicide in the UK
There are more than 6 men diagnosed with testicular cancer every day in the UK We are encouraging men from across Rotherham to join us every Thursday 4pm- 5pm in our brand new health space at the ASSEAL New York stadium. Take part in some table tennis, Boxing, circuits and fitness classes or just come down for a chat! Or why not come to our next workshop Alcohol & Health facilitated by Lifeline Rotherham on Monday 28th November 6pm- 8pm at the ASSEAL New York Stadium? Contact Trudi Race on or trace@rotherhamunited.net for further details. Anston Greenlands 2 v 0 Anston Brook Half time at the Rotherham United Vs Preston North End game saw two first round G4S trophy matches take place at the AESSEAL New York Stadium. The first fixture saw newcomers Anston Greenlands face off against local rivals Anston Brook who made it to the quarter finals in last season s tournament. As is often the case with these first round fixtures both teams started nervously and there wasn t much between them in the opening exchanges and both teams were restricted to efforts from outside the box. It wasn t until the half way through the game that Greenlands started to take the game by the scruff of the neck and began to apply some pressure, this pressure eventually paid off when a low shot from the Greenlands striker surprised the goal keeper and made the score 1-0. This goal seemed to spark some life into the Brook players and they immediately went on the hunt for an equaliser but as they pushed forward they began to leave gaps at the back and they were caught out by a quick Greenland s break and when the ball was slotted home from close range by the Greenlands striker the game was put out of Brooks reach and Greenlands celebrated a win over their local rivals. Herringthorpe St Mary s 0 v 1 Kilnhurst Primary The second fixture saw two previous winners face off when Herringthorpe St Marys took to the field against Kilnhurst Primary school. As with the other game both teams started very nervously and neither team could gain any sustained possession and both teams were limited to half chances which never really troubled either goal keeper. The two teams were very evenly matched and it became clear very early on that it was going to be a tight game and would probably be settled by one goal, as the game went on the two teams continued to cancel each other out and the game looked to be heading to penalties, this all changed on 6 minutes when Kilnurst broke with the ball and fired in a low shot which was saved by the St Mary s goalkeeper but the rebound was pounced on by the Kilnhurst striker who poked the ball home to the delight of all the players and staff, this goal proved to be the winner as St Mary s made a final push but were unable to breach the Kilnhurst defence and they secured their place alongside Anston Greenlands in the quarter finals. We would like to say well done all four teams for the way they conducted themselves at the match and whilst on the pitch playing.
