Laurence Fielding supplied the following: IIHamas' record is in the 1944 Ring Record Book, page 206. He is remembered for his series of bouts with Tommy Loughran and lee Ramage. He once knocked Loughran out in two rounds, but his best win was a decision over Max Schmeling in He was stopped by Schmeling in 9 in AccorCling to the record book he was an intercollegiate champion. It is stated that he was barn in 1909, but does not soy where. It is said that he was of Austrian ancestry, weight 190, he ight 6 ft. 1/2 in. I do not know where he is Iiv ing now, or whether he is even st HI living. He would have to be about 73." Mr. FieJding also suppl ied Homos' record which appears an the next page Based on Frank G. Menke's The Encyclopedia of Sport.s, it can be added that Hamos won the Intercollegiate Baxing Association championship in the heavyweight class in 1927 and 1929 as a representative of Penn State. His school also won the team championship in those two years. Hamas also played one season in the NFL as EIback with the Orange Tornadoes in 1929, a team that finished 7th with a record in the 12 team league per Roger Treat's Encyclopedia of Football. Although he does not appear to have been an AII-Americaf'i selediaf\hamas was included os one of five fullbacks on the all-time Penn State team by Dr~' LH. Baker in Football: Facts and Fis\!r:~s, a 1945 book. SOME SUGGESTIONS Bob Soderman forwarded these suggestions for IBRO: "How about a listing of ; all of the films of fights from the 1920's and 1930's, with special emphasis on films of the 1920's.. Other than films of the heavyweight championship fights, what other films of champions in other ~ divisions were made? Immediately after World War I ended, the movies enjoyed a tremendous growth : in this country and fight films must have enjoyed a similar growth. Does anyone know just how many ;'- fights were actually filmed, and shown in theaters? Jim Jacobs supposedly owns the biggest : collection of fight films. Perhaps a start could be a listing of all of the films in his possession. Were " any of the following champions filmed, in fights they were in: Jack Dillon, Battling Levinsky,, Harry Greb, Johnny Wilson, Jock Britton, Ted "Kid" lewis, Rocky Kansas, louis 'Kid' Kaplan,. Izzy Schwartz, etc.? I remember seeing fight film of Sammy Mandell vs. Tony Canzoneri, af. their August, 1929 lightweight title fight in Chicago, os an example." NEWSLETTERARTICLES Aquestion has been raised as to the length of newsletter articles. A maximum.~length of 4 pages appears to be a good size, any contributions longer than that would probably fit ~-.;'better in the annual journal. There is, of course, no minimum length for contributions to either the ';~newsletter or the journal. EXCHANGE CORNER Dove Btoch, 400 Berwickshire information on a Canadian boxer nomed Joe Star.
