1 #CHALLENGEYOURLIMITS ADVENTURE OBSTACLE TRAINING (PTY) LTD. NEWSLETTER #16 APRIL 2017 THE POST RACE BLUES Ever experienced a sense of depression straight after a race or a goal reached? They say, the higher your emotions soar on the day of achievement, the lower you tend to feel afterward. WHY is that? Because it is tough enough to work day in and day out, month after month towards a goal and then the sudden shift from all that routine and focus to just everyday life, and now you are left sitting with a hole when all the emotional investment is gone. Here is Claude & Trish s ideas on how to fight the Post-Race Depression. 1. Before the season begins have a plan/schedule in place of all the races you would like to do for the year. Map out your main events you would like to peak at and others you would like to use as training or prep for your main goal events. This way you will have a plan in place and already know what is next. This will help alleviate those post-race blues. 2. After your race, you need to analyze what might have gone right or wrong. Celebrate your good achievements and pat yourself on the back. Look at what might have gone wrong and then try and work out what you could have done differently to have had a more positive outcome. 3. Do not dwell on your event. Learn from it, move forward and focus on what is next. Beating yourself up over what has already happened will not change anything. 4. Draw strength from family and friends. You are never alone when preparing for an event. There are always loved ones around you that invest just as much time, emotion, and support into you goals to. 5. Lastly. Never forget that an event is not The be all and end all. Of course we invest a lot of time, commitment and emotion but at the end of the day there will always be another event to prepare for. Take out what you can from every event and learn from the experience whether good or bad. April 30, 2017 [Edition 1, Volume 1]
