2 Changes to Oireachtas Rince na Mumhan Colouring Competition Competitors dancing on Thursday and Friday can take part in our colouring competition. Great prizes to be won! Entries to be submitted by Saturday to Gerard Stack (Secretarial Team) - Change of Recall Format In a competition where there are 15 dancers or less, all will dance the set dance. In the championship competitions (Under 10 to Under 16), those dancers who do not get a recall for their set dance will be eligible to compete in a separate competition which will require the dancers to dance two steps down the line in both dances. These are the light and heavy dances that they performed in their championship. This will be called a Priomh Comortas. These competitions will take place in a second hall. - Parade of Champions On completion of competitions on Sunday, a Parade of Champions will take place. All open winners, including Corn Úna Ni Ruairc, Cormac Uí Caoimh and Sheila O Connor Rea Memorial Cup are welcome to participate in this event. Dancers must bring their awards and be in full costume. An Comhairle will also honour the dancers who won a world title at Oireachtas Rince na Cruinne Social Events On Thursday 22 nd November at 9.00 pm, a teachers reception will take place. In addition, An Comhairle will be honouring Máirín Ní Ruairc-Tuathaigh on Saturday 24 th November with a four-course gala dinner and Céili Mór. 4 Rialacha Ginerálta An Oireachtais 2012 *Please note that these rules and directives must be read in conjunction with the general rules and other relevant sections of this syllabus General Rules: 1. Age to be taken from the 1 st January Entries will not be accepted without birth certificates. 3. The adjudicator s decision is final. 4. No block, en pointe, stationery or moving is allowed for all ages up to and including the Under 11 age group. 5. Dancing is only permitted in designated practice areas. 6. Dancers will dance in threes up to and including the under 12 championships. Dancers over 12 years will dance two at a time. 7. Please note that in the event of illness or injury to any pupils prior to competing at the evetn, a doctor s certificate should be submitted to an Runai within seven days of the closure of Oireachtas Rince na Mumhan All tiaras, cups, belts and trophies must be returned in good condition to either Christine Forde, Ann O Callaghan or Sharon O Brien before Sunday October 28th Failure to comply with this ruling will result in the return of entry form and fee and a penalty of will be incurred. Photography Policy: 9. In order to ensure the safety of all competitors, An Comhairle will appoint an official photographer for Oireachtas Rince na Mumhan The use of flash photography and video equipment is strictly forbidden in the interests of child protection. Competition: 10. Dancers must be in the hall, dressed and ready to dance 30 minutes prior to the commencement of competition. 11. Recalls: & Results. a. Solo Recalls 50% b. Championship recalls 50% c. In subsidiary team competitions, prizes are awarded as follows: 1, 2, 3 teams = 1 prize 4 teams = 2 prizes 10 teams = 4 Prizes 14 teams = 5 Prizes 12 Ceili and Figure Championships a. Perpetual Cups will be awarded to 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd placings in all céili and figure championships. b. Medals will be awarded to all Ceili and Figure Championships entries. 5 Rules and Directives for Solo Competitions: 13. The required dances for each championship are set out on the Clár. 14, The heavy dance will be performed first in all competitions. 15. Prior to the commencement of the recall round of each championship, competitors will submit the name and metronomic speed of the set dance nominated by them. All set dances nominated must be on the official list. 16. Set dances must be timed as follows: - Dancers may use the electronic metronome which will be available back-stage. - Dancers may use their own metronome. - Sets may also be timed without metronomes but care must be taken not to go below the set minimum time. 17. Dancers will dance for 48 bars in the reel and jig and 40 bars in the slip jig and hornpipe after an 8 bar introduction. Dancers beginning to dance before or after the stipulated 8 bar introduction will automatically receive a ZERO for that round from all adjudicators. 18. When the first two dances in a championship have been completed, the official points system will be used to place the competitors in order of merit over the two dances. On the basis of that order of merit half of the number of competitors entered will be recalled for the set-dance round. Where there are 15 or fewer competitors in a Championship, there will be no recall with the exception of the championship competitions under 17 and over. 19. All competitors should be advised by teachers that should a shoe, heel or toe piece come off whilst dancing, he/she should retire to the rear of the stage and remain there until the other competitors have completed their dance. In the event of this situation arising, these competitors will be permitted to dance again. 20. In the event of a competitor slipping during a competition, it will be at the discretion of the adjudicators whether the bell should be rung. If this situation arises, those dancers may re-dance. 21. In the event of a fall, the bell will be rung and the competitors will be permitted to dance again. 22. Where a dancer fails to complete his / her performance in any given round, that dancer is to be given ZERO marks by each adjudicator for that round. 23. Should a dancer fall, slip or bump into another dancer on stage, whether in solos or in teams, the adjudicator MUST ring the bell to stop the performance of the dancer(s). Dancers so affected will be permitted to redance and will be marked then at the discretion of each individual adjudicator. 24. Should in the opinion of the stage steward, having obtained medical advice if necessary, a dancer be unfit to redance and if such dancer insists on his/her right to do so then the dancer concerned will only be permitted to redance on completion of a declaration form exonerating An Comhairle of liability for any consequences. Any repeat accident / incident which results in that dancer being unable to complete the required number of bars of any round, will result in the dancer withdrawing without question from the championship. 25. If a dancer falls during the last 8 bars of any performance, then he/she would only be required to dance the last 16 bars of that dance again at a time convenient to both dancers and stage stewards. 26. A competitor must not walk off the stage during a performance unless instructed to do so by an adjudicator. A dancer who dismisses themselves from the stage without the permission of an adjudicator will not be marked for that particular dance. 27. If at any stage during a performance on stage an adjudicator feels that due to the health and safety of a performer on stage that the performance should be stopped the adjudicator must ring the bell. 6 28. Respect for fellow competitors on stage is a requirement at all times. Lack of respect or courtesy for fellow competitors by aggressive dancing on stage will be subject to penalty at the discretion of each individual adjudicator. 29. The number of points gained by competitors, on their overall placing in the first two dances will not, for obvious reasons, be disclosed at the recall stage. Only the list of those recalled will be announced in numerical order. The actual placing by each adjudicator in each dance will be made public on the conclusion of the whole competition. 30. In the case of set dances, introductions will be played only once and a dancer must set his/her music speed during the one playing. No variation of the speed of the music will be permitted once dancing is due to commence. The onus of ensuring that the stage steward is informed of the correct name of set dance and the correct metronomic speed will rest with the dancer. Should a dancer submit an incorrect metronomic speed to the stage steward and commence dancing at that speed, then the dancer must continue to dance at this speed as no further opportunity of tempo change will be afforded. Dancers beginning to dance before or after the stipulated set dance introduction will automatically receive a ZERO for that round from all adjudicators. 31. In all competitions, competitors must commence their dance in the first two rounds from the designated starting points. In the set dance round a competitor may choose his/her starting point. Rules and Directives for Team Competitions: 32. No embellishments are allowed in Ceili teams and dances must be performed as per Ár Rince Fóirne. Only one dance is required for Céili championships for Oireachtas na Mumhan Please note that Part A or Part B may be performed. 33. The rules of Oireachtas na Cruinne for céili and figure dances will apply. 34. Teams wishing to participate in Céili Dance Championships at Oireachtas na Cruinne 2013 must participate in Oireachtas na Mumhan This does not necessarily mean that the teams who represent the school at Oireachtas na Mumhan 2012 are the same teams who participate at Oireachtas na Cruinne In Minor. Junior and Senior categories, only the number of teams from each school who dance at Oireachtas na Mumhan 2012 are allowed to compete at Oireachtas na Cruinne For all céili championships, any eight-hand dance (Gates of Derry, Lannigan s Ball etc) is accepted as an eight-hand. 36. The members of a team must be pupils of the same school of dancing. A dancer may be borrowed with the consent of the Officers of An Comhairle only in an emergency, i.e. injury or illness which occurs during the actual Oireachtas. A formal application must be made in writing to an Runai for the above or in any other circumstance. 37. For the mixed céili championship, two, three or four boys may be used to complete a team (i.e. 2 boys and 6 girls, 3 boys and 5 girls) Carriage Aids: 38. (a) Any competitor found to be using artificial carriage aids and subsequently refuses to remove same, will be subject to disqualification from that particular competition. Medically prescribed apparatus (proof of which may be required) will be exempt from this ruling. (b) Any competitor wearing their shoes on the wrong feet will be treated in the same manner as if using carriage aids and be subject to disqualification from that particular competition. 7 Objections: 39. Any objections, other than those relating to adjudicators decisions, must be lodged in writing with a fee of and addressed to An Runai prior to the announcement of the results of the particular competition concerning the objection. The fee will be returned if the objection is upheld. Order of Dancing, Conduct, Mishaps. etc. 40. Competitors must:- (a) Obey all instructions of the Oireachtas officials, otherwise permission to compete may be withdrawn; (b) Dance in numerical order as published in the official programme. Commencement numbers for each round of a competition will be printed in the programme. (c) Check-in before the time scheduled for the commencement of the competition. (d) Present themselves to the stage stewards in good time to dance in the appropriate numerical order otherwise the stage steward may refuse permission to dance. 41. Should a dancer or his or her teacher feel there was a reasonable and convincing reason for being late they may lodge an appeal which will be immediately determined by an ad hoc sub-committee comprised of the stage steward and two other members of An Comhairle, one of whom must be an officer. The decision of the sub-committee on the matters shall be final. 42. Should a dancer lose a heel or a complete shoe or have an open lace he/she may stand back allowing the other dancer(s), where applicable, to continue dancing uninhibited. In such a case the dancer concerned will be permitted to re-dance as soon as it is deemed practicable by the stage steward. 43. An Comhairle will, as far as is practicable provide a stage surface suitable for dancing. However, An Comhairle cannot accept any liability for injuries sustained while on stage. The lodgement of an entry will be deemed to be an acceptance of this provision by a dancer. Qualifiers for Oireachtas Rince na Cruinne (a). The number of qualifiers for Oireachtas Rince na Cruinne 2013 from a competition at a Regional or National Oireachtas shall be determined by the number of competitors who actually dance in the event concerned and not the number entered. In calculating the number of qualifiers from a Regional or National Oireachtas dancers deemed to have qualified by having attained medal winning positions at the previous Oireachtas Rince na Cruinne 2012 will count as competitors but not as qualifiers. (b). A competitor can only compete at Oireachtas Rince na Cruinne 2013 for the teacher he/she qualified for. Any exceptions to this will be considered on an individual basis and such an exception must be requested in writing. (c). The number of qualifiers from the respective competitions at Regional and National qualifyings shall be as follows:- In the case of competitions 20, 29 and 30 the number of qualifiers shall be 7 where the number of competitors is twenty or less plus one additional qualifier for each five, or part of five in excess of the first twenty reckonable competitors. In the case of other age groups the number of qualifiers shall be 5 where the number of competitors is twenty or less plus one additional qualifier for each ten, or part of ten in excess of the first twenty reckonable competitors. 8 Regional Oireachtas to Oireachtas Rince na Cruinne 2013 (excluding 2012 World Oireachtas medal winners). There is no maximum stipulated for National Oireachtais. (e). ln the case of competitions at Oireachtas na Cruinne 2013 which are in one-yearage-groups, the qualifying events at Regional and National Oireachtais should be held in one year age groups also. (f). The compulsory dances for a qualifying championship at a Regional Oireachtas 2012 may be the same as for the corresponding event at Oireachtas Rince na Cruinne 2013 or Craobhacha Rince Náisiunta na héireann 2012 or a combination of both events. Music Speeds: 44. ln all solo championships the speeds of the musical accompaniment will be as follows:- Reel 113 Slip Jig 113 Hornpipe 113 Heavy Jig 73 (a maximum deviation of ± 1 point will be permitted) Interprerations of the Rules of An Comhairle: 45. (a)decisions of An Comhairle as to the interpretation of these Rules and in relation to all other matters pertaining to the Oireachtas shall be final. (b) The submission of an entry shall be taken to signify that the teachers and their pupils concerned accept all these Rules in full and agree to strictly abide thereby.
