1 JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL POLICIES 1. Registration: 1.1 Registration for ALL sports begins the 1 st week of July. 1.2 Please follow the following steps: 1) Go to 2) Click on registration Click the current year Charter School Athletic Association Registration 3) If you are a new user please click Create Account Use a valid address that you frequently use and a password you will remember Once you sign up check the you used to verify your account. 4) The will lead you back to the website. Click on Registration Click on current year Charter School Athletic Association Registration Click continue 5) Fill out the Registration form completely. Click on all sports you will participate in. If you chose to register for all sports in September that is fine. 2. Scheduling: 2.1 All schools must register for all the sports they wish to participate in for the school year. a) Fall: Last week of September December 20 th b) Winter First week of January Last week of March c) Spring April 1 st 2 nd week of June 2.2 All schools will receive an to confirm their participation in the sports that were on their registration form. 2.3 During the process of scheduling there will be three (3) s sent out, two drafts and a final schedule. 2.4 All schools are required to send blackout dates and gym dates after they have confirmed their participation in the upcoming sport. 2.5 During the 1 st and 2 nd draft, each school will be reminded to send blackout dates and gym dates if a school has not done so. 2 a) Each school will have three (3) days to ask for adjustments/changes in the schedule due to conflicts. The conflicts are: Scheduling games on blackout dates Games on the same day at two different locations Scheduling a game in a school s gym/field when it is not available. 2.6 Final schedule a) Once the final schedule is sent out, no changes will be allowed. b) If no blackout dates were sent out from a school until after the final schedule, there will be no changes made. There are no exceptions to this. 2.7 Games that have to be rescheduled due to weather and/or gym incidents will be rescheduled within the next two week. a) CSAA will send three dates available for the schools to play the make-up game. b) Both schools will have to agree on which date to play. c) A forfeit will be given to the school who cannot play on neither of the dates provided. d) CSAA may elect to only give 2 dates based on availability, if the program is within the last two weeks of regular season or during the playoffs. As long as it is not a black-out date, both teams must choose an agreed upon date or a tie will be given. 2.8 CSAA City Wide is optional and not mandatory. 3.Blackout Dates& Gym Dates: 3.1 Blackout dates are days your school or your coaches are not available to play. 3.2 You are allowed 10 blackout dates for the season. a) Please check with your administration on the following conflicts. Field trips Parent teacher conferences School plays/concerts Open school night Voting dates and the day after (only for home school) Half a day Holidays ( not including Halloween, Thanksgiving break, Christmas/New Years break, Winter Recess, Spring Break) Except Flag Football Testing High School entrance exams 3.3 Gym Dates/time: Days Monday Saturday your school can have home games along with the time frame you have access to the gym i.e see chart below. Gym School Policies: 4.1 All schools gym policies must be put on the CSAA website schools home page and sent to CSAA region sports . a) Rules of your gym Example: No spectators Parents only Admission fee I.D. needed to enter building 4.2 Rescheduling a) All schools need a written letter from the principal, with a letter head, about rescheduling games due to an incident in their gym. b) The Commissioner has the right to deny the request to reschedule the game. 5. Gym Location: 5.1 All schools are responsible for making sure that their gym address is updated on their CSAA school website page. 5.2 Before you visit a school for a scheduled game, you must check the location sheet that is ed with the final schedule. Do NOT Google a school location for the gym address. 5.3 If a visiting team shows up to an incorrect location due to the schools homepage, the home team will receive a forfeit loss for having the incorrect address on their CSAA school website page. 6. Eligibility of Players: 6.1 In order to be eligible to participate in CSAA activities a student must be enrolled in and attend a member school. 6.2 A student establishes initial eligibility upon the first day of attendance at any school or by trying out for and being selected for membership on a school team. 6.3 Physical Examination is required and is the responsibility of the school. 6.4 JHS secondary students can play up on the high school level, but will lose their eligibility to play on the junior high school level if the sports are during the same season. 4 7. Transferring Students: 7.1 Any student transferring from one school to another during the season shall lose eligibility to participate in the present CSAA athletic event for the season. 7.2 CSAA has the discretion, to waive all or part of the ineligibility based on evidence of hardship that s presented. Purposes of hardship shall be defined as an unforeseeable, unavoidable, and uncorrectable act, condition, or event, which causes the imposition of a severe and non-athletic burden upon the student and/or his/her family. a) An affected student may request a waiver from the CSAA. Any student making such a request shall provide such documentation related to the claimed hardship as the CSAA may require. b) The following are examples of hardships. While all requests will be considered on the facts presented in the request, these examples are intended to describe the types of situations which meet the definition of hardship. Death, the result of which requires a surviving student to change schools. Divorce, the result of which requires a student to change schools. Bona fide change in residence. 8. Age/Grade Eligibility: 8.1 A student shall be eligible for CSAA JHS athletics at a maximum of 8 th grade & 14 years old. a) Team will be allowed two (2) 15 year old student athletes on their roster. If the student athlete turns 15 anytime during the school year, he/she is considered a 15 year old, even if he/she turns 15 after the season but during the school year. 8.2 A student who turns the age of 16 during the calendar year, January to December, that fall between the academic school year, September to June, cannot participate in JHS sports. Example: The school year begins September 2016 and ends June Joe Smith was born 7/20/01. He would be considered a 16 year old and cannot play in JHS sports because he turns 16 during the one of the two calendar years that crosses with the academic school year. Based off our policy only 2 (two) children who turn 15 during the academic school year (Sept 2016-June 2017) are allowed to participate in JHS sports. Any child who turns 16 during the 2016/2017 calendar year cannot play in JHS sports (children born in the year 2001). 8.3 A student who turns the age of 14 during the calendar year cannot participate in 5 th & 6 th grade sports. 8.4 A student shall be eligible for CSAA 5 th & 6 th grade athletics at a maximum of 6 th grade & 12 years old. 8.5 Teams will be allowed one (1) 13 year old student/athletes on their rosters. If the student/athlete turns 13 anytime during the school year, he/she is considered a 13 year old, even if he/she turns 13 after the season but during the school year. Page 4

5 9. Team Roster: 9.1 Each participating school must submit a team roster to the league office before your schools first regular season game. This will be strictly enforced. Any team not providing a team roster before the 1st game (without a written exemption from the Director of Athletics) will forfeit their games until the roster is submitted. 9.2 All team rosters will consist of a maximum of twenty (20) players and must contain the following information: Name of school Names and telephone numbers of head coach and assistant coaches Legal first and last name of each player Grade, age, and date of birth (day not required) Uniform number of each player Signature of each player Signature of the principal a) It is the responsibility of each member school to ensure the accuracy of the information provided on the league roster. The information provided on the submitted roster is considered official and will be the evidential basis of any eligibility challenges. Changes to the roster cannot be made after it is submitted to the league office without the written consent of the Director of Athletics. b) Roster changes will be approved/ denied at the sole discretion of the Director of Athletics in accordance with the hardship provision. ( as defined in the CSAA Student- Eligibility Guidelines ) c) Rosters may consist of a maximum of twenty (20) players. d) League rosters should be ed to league sports before the 1st league game. 10. Uniforms: 10.1 All teams must be in matching uniform tops and shorts with unique numbers for each player Any athletic socks are fine Under Amour sleeves, body suits and leggings are allowed No earring facial piercing, jewelry or rubber bands of any kind All t-shirts worn under team jersey must match All uniform infractions will be two (2) shots and one (1) team foul All teams must be in uniform by opening day. If you are not in uniform, the Coach or AD must call the Commissioner a day before their first game Teams that do not have their uniforms by opening day must order the uniforms by a CSAA sanctioned uniform vendor Teams not in uniform opening day will be allowed to play but will receive a forfeit loss for no uniform All uniform issues will be discussed before the game with the coaches, game Supervisor and referees/umpires. All reasonable attempts will be made to correct any violations. Page 5

6 11. Jewelry: 11.1 All earrings, facial piercings, body piercings, and bands must be removed before start of game All sports follow the same rules pertaining to jewelry If jewelry is for Religious reasons: a) Child must have a letter from their school. b) Letter must have school letter head and signed by principal. c) Child must have a letter from their parent. d) Letters must be brought with the child to every game throughout the season. e) If a child wears a religious band on wrist it can be worn but it must be covered with athletic tape and/or sweat band. 12. Weekly Confirmation: 12.1 After the final schedule is sent out and all schools confirm, there will be a weekly confirmation process until the season ends. a) Every Wednesday during the current sport season, the schedule for the following week will be sent out via . b) All school Athletic Director/Coaches must confirm the weekly schedule BEFORE Friday 12pm of the same week the weekly schedule was sent out. If a school does not confirm by Friday 12 the following will occur 1. On the following Monday, CSAA will forward the again. 2. Send a text message to the Athletic Director/ Coaches of the school. If CSAA does not receive a response by 11am, the school who did not respond will receive a forfeit loss. 3 forfeits due to lack of responding in a timely manner for confirmations, will have a school taken out of the league for the rest of the season and put into the development league for the following season. 13. Forfeits: 13.1 Forfeit time is 15 minutes in flag football, volleyball, basketball, baseball, and soccer. The referee/umpire will be instructed to leave the gym/field. The forfeit time in softball is 20 minutes Any other serious unforeseen circumstances will be evaluated by league Athletic Director and Commissioner for rescheduling game considerations If your school forfeits 3 games within a season the school would no longer be able to participate in the sport. 14. Sportsmanship Policy: 14.1 Sportsmanship is shown right before and after the game by walking across the field or court and giving a good game hank shake. All players must comply (No exceptions). Players who fail to comply will be suspended for the next regular season. Coaches who do not comply will be suspended for the next regular season games If a player for any medical reason cannot take place during the sportsmanship walk through the coach must bring it to the game supervisor attention immediately. a) All players must keep uniform tops on during the sportsmanship walk through. b) No item is permitted in hand during the sportsmanship walk through. 7 15. Protest Procedures: 15.1 All protests or complaints alleging a violation of rules or policies must be made with-in 24 hours of the game, and must be submitted in writing. All final decisions concerning the outcome will be made and concluded by CSAA COMMISSIONER Ty Moore Game day staff or head of officials must be notified of protest Protest of official judgment calls will not be allowed. 16. Coaches Conduct: 16.1 Ejected Coaches a) Any coach who is ejected from a game must leave the gym/field. If an assistant coach is not available an adult over 21 can step in as the acting coach. If an adult is not available the game will result in a forfeit. The Director of Athletics will notify the school A.D of the ejection immediately after the game Suspended Coaches: a) 1st Ejection during current season - One (1) game suspension for the next scheduled league game (Regular season or playoffs) (Can be adjusted by the commissioner) b) 2nd ejection during current season - Two (2) games suspension and subject to further disciplinary action by CSAA. 17. Student Conduct: 17.1 Ejected Student Athletic a) The minimum penalty imposed upon a student-athlete ejected from a CSAA league game will be one game. b) The coach of the suspended student-athlete may appeal after, but all final decision will be made by CSAA Commissioner. 18. Spectator Technical: 18.1 A team technical will be given to fans or parent who disrupts the flow of the game. If the disruption continues the fan or parent will be ask to leave the event. If He or She refuses to leave the event the team that he or she is championing for will forfeit the game. 19. Brawl Rule: 19.1 Fighting a) In the event of an altercation, if coaches lose control of their benches, and any player leaves the bench to participate in the altercation - THAT GAME CAN BE DECLARED forfeit or a DOUBLE FORFEIT. b) The CSAA Director may impose further sanctions (Player/Coaches Suspension) if there is evidence that such sanctions are warranted Video would be accepted to determine forfeits. 8 20. Mercy Rules: 20.1 Softball/Baseball: a) If a team is winning by 10 runs or more at the end of the 3 rd inning the game is over. If the home team is down by 10 runs after the 3 rd inning, the home team is allowed a final at bat. 21. Cheerleader policy: 21.1 Cheerleaders are an extension of the team, and must also be accommodated at all home and away gym locations Home team cheerleaders should cheer on Home team sidelines or designated area if available Home team cheerleaders cannot cheer on the away team s sideline/bench. Away team cheer leaders cannot cheer behind the home team s bench Cheerleaders cannot cheer or boo during free throws attempts Cheerleaders are just like the players and can be ejected/suspended from a game for disorderly behavior at the referee or Game Supervisor s discretion Half time is three (3) minutes long, and in the event that both schools have cheerleaders one (1) minute performing time will be granted to each cheerleading team. 22. Post Season Eligibility: 22.1 All players (B/G) must play half of the regular season games in order to be eligible for post season. 23. League Fee s: 23.1 Contact the league for price information. All league fees are due 14 days after a school receives invoices. There will be NO reimbursement of payment for any program. If league fees are not in within the 1 st month of the program, the team will receive a forfeit loss for every game until payment is received. All schools are required to contact their finance department if invoice is not received within the 1 st week of the program. CSAA will no longer reimburse schools for the following: cancelled games, forfeits, or transportation cost. If a school decides to drop out of a sport after the 2 nd draft schedule has been sent out, CSAA would charge 10% of the total program cost for administration fee. If a school decides not to participate after the final schedule is sent out, CSAA will charge 15% of the total cost of the program for administration fee. If payment was already made, the remaining balance, after the administration fee, will be applied towards the next sport the school is participating in. 24. Sound: 24.1 All pre game music during game and during time outs is expectable. CSAA does expect all music sound bites to be in good taste and with no profanity Play by Play can only be announced for stats. Page 8

9 25. Filming: 25.1 CSAA does have policies and restrictions on filming of league games, and of future opponents All recordings of sporting events must be cleared first with CSAA Director of Athletics CSAA will not view film concerning a game that is being protested Coaches and staff cannot film another teams game. 26. Weather: 26.1 SEVERE WEATHER DELAYS AND CANCELLATIONS Indoors and Outdoors Sport All weather cancellations will be made by 12:00 PM for scheduled league games. 27. AED/CPR 27.1 The Charter School Athletic Association Mandates AED/CPR Certification for All Coaches. a) Games cannot proceed unless one team is present with required AED unit. If the AED unit is NOT present, by either team the game will be a forfeit. Each teacher/coach must actively supervise team members, until they are safely away from the site of competition. Page 9
