3 ABCs OF FALL PROTECTION A typical Personal Fall Arrest System (PFAS) incorporates three components often described as the ABCs of fall protection. The anchorage/anchorage connector, body support and connecting device, when used together, form a complete system for maximum worker protection. But don t forget about another required component of any fall protection program - the descent, rescue and retrieval of a fallen worker. A ANCHORAGES Anchorages are a secure point of attachment. Anchorage connectors vary by industry, job, type of installation and structure. They must be able to hold fast under more than a minimum force of 12kN. B BODY SUPPORT Harnesses distribute fall forces over the upper thighs, pelvis, chest and shoulders. They provide a connection point on the worker for the personal fall protection system. C CONNECTORS Connectors elements such as shock absorbing lanyards or self retracting lifelines connect a worker s harness to the anchorage. D DESCENT AND RESCUE Descent and rescue devices are used to retrieve an injured worker or lower them to the ground

36 VERTICAL LIFELINE SYSTEMS Lad-Saf The Lad-Saf flexible cable system consists of a top and bottom bracket that act as anchors for a steel cable that runs the length of the climbing area. Designed for ease of use, economy and versatility, you can bolt or weld the system, choose rung clamp sizes/styles, choose systems for straight or curved ladders and for connection to wood, concrete or steel structures. The system incorporates an integrated tension indicator in the bottom bracket which takes the guesswork out of installation. The Lad-Saf system is available in a Stainless Steel option for harsh environments to provide ultimate corrosion protection.
