CPC in STARSkate Workshop #1
2 nd Vice-Chairman Chair of the BC/YT Section Technical Committee ISU Judge and International Referee National Level Technical Controller Section Level Technical Specialist Mother of former skaters test stream to highly competitive
Cumulative Points Calculation system 6.0 only 2 marks; comparative CPC many marks which are added together for the total score; no comparison to other skaters CPC skaters receive immediate feedback on their performance and quality of execution
There are more Official roles: Technical Controller Technical Specialist Data Input Operator Referee Judge Technical Judge Data Specialist The roles at a competition will depend on the type of competition and whether or not equipment is being used
Skater Details / Report Cards Scale of Values Element Codes not Morse not secret! Grade of Execution GOE Program Components PCs Levels Invalid element Planned Program Sheet
Skater s Performance Scale of Values Numeric value assigned to each element Grade of Execution Assessment applied to each element -3, -2, -1, 0, +1, +2, +3 Program Component 5 aspects of a skater s program each assigned a mark out of 10 Deductions Specific deductions applied for errors or violations (e.g. falls, time, music) Total Segment Score
Results in 6.0 Judging System Judge #1 Judge #2 Judge #3 Placement SUSAN SALLY SANDRA Results in CPC System Element Component Segment Score Score Score Placement SANDRA SUSAN SALLY
Know how to decipher the hieroglyphics Encourage your child/skater to use it as a tool
# Element Base Value GOE Score 1 1Lz+1Lo+C A S SSp SpSq Lo T< FCoSp F A+1T+C CoSp *
X credit for second half (NOT IN STARSkate) * - invalid element, scored as zero < -downgraded jump e severe wrong take-off edge,! slight wrong take-off edge Deductions usually for falls or timing 5 Program Components and total Component Score Total Segment Score
Skaters should learn how to fill it out Can be changed It is a tool for the Technical panel and the Data Input operator to assist in faster input of the elements. Helpful to learn the element abbreviations: ex: 1A + 2T + C CoSp FSSp
To receive level 1, a spin must have at least 3 rotations of which at least 2 must be in a continuous basic position A spin that receives no level also receives no points
Must have a change of position For a position to count, there must be two revolutions in the position If the skater does not complete 2 full revolutions in 2 positions, it is a combination spin level 0 = no points
There must be a combination spin with a mandatory change of foot - CCoSp For the change of foot to count there must be 3 full revolutions on each foot if one foot does not have 3 revs, then the spin is called combination spin level 1 Now the program is missing one of the well balanced program criteria so the spin will also be invalid!! = no points CoSp1*
Why do some spiral sequences receive no level? Can a step sequence receive no level?
Each element has its own numeric Base Value Each GOE also has its own + or numeric value This + or numeric value for each GOE is different for different elements The Scale of Values table combines the numeric base values and numeric GOE value to arrive at a final mathematical value for each element
The Grade of Execution or GOE is assessed by the panel of judges Each element is given a GOE based on the quality of how it is performed There are 7 possible grades that can be awarded to any one element (-3 to +3)
Excellent/Outstanding Very Good Good 0 0 Satisfactory Mediocre Poor Very Poor
Excellent Good Excellent/Outstanding Very Good Good Satisfactory Needs Improvement 0 Satisfactory -1 Mediocre -2 Poor -3 Very Poor
An element with a higher level of difficulty that is very poorly executed will in the end score less points than an easier element done well
Time Music Illegal element Costume / Prop Fall Interruption 1.0 for every 5 sec lacking / in excess 1.0 for vocal music 2.0 for every illegal element 1.0 for costume and/or prop violation 0.5 for each fall 0.5 for an interruption of seconds. Additional 0.5 for each successive 10 seconds
There is a maximum number of each element type that can be included in any program If there are any violations of this criteria, the Technical Controller or Technical Judge will invalidate the element and no score is given There is no penalty for including less than the maximum number of an element type However, by not including the maximum number of elements, skaters cannot maximize their total score

The Scale of marks used to assess Program Components differs from the GOE scale The Program Components are marked on an absolute scale from 0-10 in 0.25 increments Marks must be applied consistently regardless of skating level One could rightfully see some Senior Bronze skaters scored in the 3s and Gold skaters in the 1s and 2s In STARSkate events the PCs will generally range from 0.25 in Junior Bronze up to 3.75 in Gold
Skating Skills Transitions Performance / Execution Choreography Interpretation Edges, easy speed, directions & knees Threading together of content Projection, commitment & body line Layout, balance, musical construction Character, nuances, finesse
