2 ASSOCIATION OF PHILADELPHIA AREA FIGURE SKATING CLUBS The Association of Philadelphia Area Figure Skating Clubs is an organization that has been in existence since 1935, when at that time it awarded its first trophy at a competition between member clubs. 4 2011 PHILADELPHIA AREA CHAMPIONSHIP Friday, Saturday & Sunday, April 1, 2, & 3; 2011 Chairpersons: Betty Field & Tezanne Zeringo Chief Referee: Sue Miller Chief Accountant: Terry Foley Who May Compete: This competition is open to all eligible skaters who are in good standing of clubs having membership in the USFS or are Individual Members of the USFS. Entries from members of probationary clubs will be accepted provided the entry is accompanied by a signed certification by the skater that he/she is properly qualified to enter the events mentioned. Only skaters from member clubs of Philadelphia Areas or individual members residing in the Philadelphia Area are eligible for Championship trophies. Entries: Enter online at or at Deadline for online entries, without late fees, is no later than 11:59 PM March 1, The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) reserves the right to limit entries in each category and the right to combine, divide or cancel groups. No changes may be made to a competitor s application once the deadline has passed. Late entries may be accepted at the discretion of the LOC and will require an additional late fee of $25. You may enter the category for which you have passed the required test or ONE level higher. A $25.00 charge will be made for all checks returned by the bank for any reason and payment must be made by cash, cashier s check or money order prior to the competition. ALL ENTRIES ARE BASED ON TEST LEVEL PASSED AS OF ENTRY DEADLINE: March 1, Events: The competition committee does have the right to cancel any event due to insufficient entries. If events are cancelled, those skaters affected will be invited to skate an exhibition. Skaters impacted will be notified prior to the competition date. Rules: The competition will be conducted according to the rules in the 2011 Rule Book except as stated herein. The Juvenile & Open Juvenile through Senior SP and FS events will be judged using IJS. All other events will be judged under the 6.0 system. The competition will be conducted according to the rules for the competition season as set forth in the U.S. Figure Skating rulebook. Registration: Registration will open 1 hour before the 1st event. Competitors should arrive at the rink 1 hour before scheduled event. Rink Information: Ice surface measures 85 by 200 with rounded corners. Music: Please bring two copies of your music on CD (CD s are the only media source accepted NO tapes or Mini Discs). CDs must contain music for only one program. All music must be marked with the skater s name, level and length of program. Music must be submitted at registration 1 hour prior to the event. *CDs due to compatibility issues, CDRW will not be accepted. All competitors must have a duplicate CD available at rink side during their event in case of a problem with the original disk. Please pick up your music promptly after your event has ended. All possible care will be taken, however, SCOSNJ assumes no responsibility or liability due to loss or damage to any music and assumes no responsibility for unclaimed music by the end of the competition Awards: Medals will be awarded to the 1 st, 2 nd, 3 rd and 4 th place winners in each event. In addition, skaters in Basic Skills events who place lower than 4 th will receive participation medals for their efforts. Schedule: Do not send self-addressed, stamped envelopes. The tentative schedule and individual group assignments with dates and times will be posted on and as soon as possible after the close of entries. Please check for schedule changes prior to traveling to the competition. An official schedule will be available at the registration desk. Please remember the chief referee makes the schedule for the competition, not the club or the chairpersons. Practice Ice: Practice ice will be available through Mt Laurel Igloo. Freestyle sessions will be posted on the club website: The decision to hold practice ice will be determined by the LOC once all applications have been received.

5 Liability: The USFS, Skate Igloo, the SCOSNJ and the LOC for this competition undertake no responsibility for damages or injuries suffered by the skaters or officials. As a condition of and in consideration of the acceptance of the entries or participation therein, all entrants, their family members and officials shall be deemed to agree to assume all risk of injury to their person and property resulting from, caused by or connected with, the conduct and management of the competition, and to waive and release any and all claims which they may have against any official, the USFS, SCOSNJ and against its officers. Entries shall be accepted only on such conditions as listed in USFS Competition rules, section 3222 Refunds: No refunds will be granted for any reason except events cancelled by the LOC (USFS# 3235). Under no other circumstances will a refund be given. This includes: conflicting family activities, injuries, illness or deaths in the family (USFS# 3235). Video Taping/Photography: A professional video service and photographer will be available. Those interested in videotaping for personal use will be asked to use the bleachers and tripods are not allowed. YOU MAY ONLY VIDEO YOUR SKATER. Flash photography will NOT be permitted during events. Additionally, for future purchases, vendors may post pictures on their websites. All vendors abide by NJ state law regarding web postings. Vendors: Vendors will be set up throughout the competition. Entry Fees: IJS EVENTS: 1 ST event - $110; 2 nd IJS event - $90; 2 nd if 6.0 event $60, subsequent events $ EVENTS: 1 ST event - $85; 2 nd event $60, 3 rd and subsequent events $30 BASIC SKILL EVENTS - $45 for 1 st event; 2 nd and subsequent events $30 Skaters from non member clubs or not residing in the Philadelphia area must select the non-member club/nonresident event (a $5.00 surcharge) from the drop down menu. No refunds will be granted for any reason except events cancelled by the LOC (USFS# 3235). Under no other circumstances will a refund be given. 7 COMPETITIVE TEST TRACK Skaters may enter either the test track free skate program or the Free skate program but not both during the same nonqualifying competition. Competitors will skate to music of their choice, vocal music permitted. The 6.0 judging system will be used for all Test Track events. Deductions WILL be made for skaters including technical elements not permitted in the event description. 0.1 from EACH mark for each technical element included that is not permitted in the event description. 0.2 from the technical mark for each extra or lacking element and 0.1 for any spin with less than required revolutions. Jumps are allowed and will be judged on the quality of the jump and not on its difficulty. Props are not permitted. Levels/Time ART 1) Juvenile/Open Juvenile/Intermediate - 2:10 max ART 2) Novice/Junior/Senior - 2:40 max ART 3) Adult (21 and over no level restrictions) - 1:40 max Showcase Skaters will be judged solely on theatrical and artistic qualities from an entertainment standpoint, rather than the technical accuracy of specific moves. Please note, however, that skating must be of sufficient competence to support the theatrical components chosen. Costumes are mandatory. Competition skating attire will be penalized. Props are limited to those that can be carried or pushed onto the ice surface by the competitor, unassisted. Set up and clearance times are limited to 30 seconds each. Props may not include flames, smoke or any presentation that affects the quality of the ice surface. Events will not be segregated by gender. Programs shall be a maximum of 1:40 minutes. 10 BASIC SKILLS COMPULSORY MOVES EVENTS: SNOWPLOW SAM BASIC 8 Format: Each skater will perform each element when directed by a judge or referee or have the option to perform one element at a time in the order listed below (no excessive connecting steps). Referee driven format examples: all skaters perform first element before moving on to the next and so on OR each skater performs all of the required elements before moving on to the next skater.
