This competition is open to all eligible, restricted, reinstated or readmitted persons as defined by the eligibility rules, and is a currently registered member of a U.S. Figure Skating member club, a collegiate club or an individual member in accordance with the current rulebook. Please refer to the current rulebook for non-u.s. citizens. The Knoxville Figure Skating Club will be hosting a test session in conjunction with the Knoxville Invitational to take place on Sunday May 17, Test forms can be located at & inquiries should be sent to Kim Patterson, Test Chair, at kimpatterson44@yahoo.com. ELIGIBILITY/TEST LEVEL: TEST LEVEL: Competition level is the highest test passed as of the entry deadline in the discipline the skater is entering. Entrants may skate one level above that for which they qualify, but they may not skate down in any event. EVENTS / LEVELS OFFERED: Basic Skills & FS 1 6: Basic Programs, Compulsory Elements, Showcase Introductory Levels: Compulsory Elements, Well Balanced Program, Jumps, Spins, Showcase & Interpretive No Test Senior: Compulsory Elements, Well Balanced & Test Track Programs, Jumps, Spins, Showcase & Interpretive Adult 1-6: Compulsory Elements, Basic Program & Showcase Adult Pre-Bronze & Adult Gold: Compulsory Elements, Free Skating Programs, Jumps, Spins, Showcase & Interpretive Adult Masters: Free Skating Programs, Jumps, Spins, Showcase & Interpretive ENTRIES AND FEES: A secure, online registration is available until 11:59pm April 6, 2015 at or A late entry fee of $25 will be added to all accepted competition forms received after April 6, Events may be cancelled or combined when low enrollments are concerned. Skaters will be notified of necessary changes. Skaters wishing to change their events after the close of entries may be subject to a $25 change of event fee. Skaters may mail a paper entry form instead, but forms must be RECEIVED BY April 6, The entry fee must be included with the completed application. 2 REFUNDS: No refunds for events will be made after the closing date (April 6, 2015) unless the event is cancelled by the LOC. Refunds will not be issued if a skater has personal conflicts with the competition schedule. There will be no refunds for medical withdrawals. The online processing fees are not refundable. Refunds will not be given for missed practice sessions; however, a skater is allowed to change his/her practice ice time before the session occurs. Checks returned for nonsufficient funds and contested credit card charges will be issued a $20 service fee. MUSIC: The skater must provide their own music for all free skating, showcase, and dance events on CDs only (no tapes will be accepted). CDs should be clearly marked with the name of the skater, event entered and length of music (not skating time). Competition music is to be turned in at the time of registration. Skaters should arrive with a backup CD. CDs can be picked up at the registration desk after their event. The organizing committee will not accept responsibility for damage or loss of music but will take every precaution to ensure their safety. LIABILITY: U.S. Figure Skating, The Knoxville Figure Skating Club, and Cool Sports accept no responsibility for injury or damage sustained by any participant in this competition. This is in accordance with rule 1600 of the official US figure skating rulebook. JUDGING SYSTEM: The International Judging System (IJS) will be used for the following: -Well Balanced program Freeskate events, Juvenile Senior; - Short Program events, Juvenile Senior - Adult Gold, Adult Masters Int Sen All competitors skating in these events need to submit the planned program content form online. This form is found in the member s only section at The deadline to submit the form is May 2, The 6.0 majority judging system will be used for: - Well balanced program free skate events, Pre-preliminary Pre-juvenile, Adult Beginner - Silver - Introductory free skate events (beginner, high beginner, no-test) - All test track events - All specialty singles events (spins, jumps, compulsory moves, interpretive) - All showcase events - All Basic Skills & Freeskate events REGISTRATION: The official registration desk will be located in the rink lobby area at Cool Sports. It will open approximately 30 minutes prior to the first practice ice session on Saturday morning and remain open throughout scheduled competition events. Competitors must check in at least one (1) hour prior to their event, and should be prepared to skate earlier than scheduled, should the competition be running ahead. INFORMATION REGARDING COACHES: U.S. Figure Skating Rule MR 5.11 Coach Compliance In order to be granted access to work within U.S. Figure Skating sanctioned activities, each coach must complete the following requirements on an annual basis by July 1: A. Must be a current full member of U.S. Figure Skating - either through a member club or as an individual member; B. Must complete the coach registration process through the U.S. Figure Skating Members Only site, submit proper payment for the annual registration fee of $30 and, if 18 years of age or older, successfully pass the background screen. C. Must complete the appropriate CER courses (A,B, C or D) depending on the highest level of students being coached as of July 1. See rule MR D. Must submit proof of current general liability insurance with limits of $1 million per occurrence/$5 million aggregate. For Basic Skills ONLY coaches - Any person, 18 and older, instructing in a U.S. Figure Skating Basic Skills Program must have successfully passed the annual background screen and be registered as a Basic Skills instructor member. The local organizing committee/club will have a list of compliant coaches who are cleared for a credential at the competition. Coaches will need to check in at the event registration desk and show a government issued photo I.D. to receive a credential. Sanctioned by US Figure Skating # If a coach cannot provide a photo I.D. and is not on the list or cannot produce the necessary documents, he or she will not be allowed a credential no exceptions. We strongly urge all coaches to have their cards with them. Non-credentialed coaches will not be permitted in the designated coaching area at rink side during events including practice sessions. Coaching at U.S. Figure Skating events without compliance is an ethics violation which is reported to U.S. Figure Skating and PSA. For more information regarding Coach Compliance, please refer to: 2

3 PRACTICE ICE: Skaters who wish to pre-purchase practice ice may do so online, prior to the release of the official schedule & practice schedule times. Separate payment is NOT required. Practice ice is $12.00 per 20 minute session if purchased by April 6, Skaters who pre-register will receive an approximately 1-2 weeks before the competition informing them to select their desired practice ice time online. The practice ice selection is first-come, first-served, but those who pre-register will be allowed to select times first. After skaters who have pre-registered have an opportunity to select their practice ice times, the online booking system will be opened up for any other skaters to purchase and select practice ice times at a rate of $15.00 per 20 minutes. Additional practice ice, if space allows, will be sold at the event at the rate of $15.00 per 20 minute session. Free skate practice ice and dance practice ice will be limited to 20 skaters. Phone or reservations will not be accepted. Practice ice general information There will be practice ice available beginning Saturday May 16, 2015 beginning as early as 6am if necessary. Practice ice is $12 for 20 minutes if purchased in advance. A practice ice and competition schedule will be posted at approximately two weeks prior to the competition. Skaters may also purchase practice ice at a walk-on rate of $15 per 20 minutes if space is still available. Practice ice may be cancelled if an insufficient number of reservations is received. No music will be played during practice ice. How to select practice ice: You will be able to select practice ice times online though the EntryEeze registration site after the competition schedule is completed. All skaters registered for the competition will receive a confirmation message from the EntryEeze Online Registration system with a PIN. Use your PIN and US Figure Skating number to select practice ice time. Practice ice selection is done on a first-come, first-served basis, with priority selection given to skaters who pre-register. After pre-registered skaters have an opportunity to select practice ice, all other skaters will have the opportunity to purchase and select practice ice at the "walk-on" rate if there are additional times available. EVENT VIDEO AND PHOTOGRAPHY: Photography and/or video services will be available for purchase. Flash photography is not allowed in the arena during the warm-up or during the competition, as it is a safety hazard to the skaters. AWARDS: All events will be final rounds. Medals will be presented to first through third places. All other places will receive ribbons. Awards will be presented off the ice to all participants after final results have been tabulated. An awards schedule will be posted near the results area. SCHEDULES: A final competition and practice ice schedule will be posted at approximately 10 days prior to the competition. The competition schedule is set by the LOC, and no changes will be made to the schedule once it is announced unless an error has been made by the LOC. EVENT PROGRAM: An official Knoxville Invitational 2015 program will be available for a nominal fee. To place a Good Luck ad, please use the enclosed form on the last page of this announcement, or through the "merchandise" tab on the online registration system. Please note that late entries may not appear in the official program. FACILITIES: All events will be held at Cool Sports, which has dressing rooms, one concessions stand, a Sports Lounge, and a pro shop. Free parking. Cool Sports has one NHL-size ice surface, measuring 200 by 85. Admission to view competition is free. LODGING: Our host hotel is the Hampton Inn located approximately 5 miles from Cool Sports. Nightly fee for a double room is $99. Call (865) and mention Knoxville Figure Skating Club when making reservations. 3

6 ILLUSTRATION OF THE PROGRESSION THROUGH THE LEVELS OF U.S FIGURE SKATING All singles athletes begin with the U.S Figure Skating Basic Skills program, then progress to the introductory levels, and finally choose whether to follow the test track or Well Balanced program category. Athletes may choose to move between test track and Well Balanced program at any point. U.S. FIGURE SKATING BASIC SKILLS PROGRAM Competition levels for singles skaters within the Basic Skills program include: Snowplow Sam 1-3, Basic 1-8, Adult 1-6, Hockey 1-4, Free Skate 1-6 Once skaters have competed at the introductory level, and begin the official U.S. Figure Skating test structure, they may then choose whether to enter the Test Track Free Skate or Well Balanced Free Skate program. Test requirements for both categories are the same, it is completely the choice of the athlete which track to follow. Beginner High Beginner No Test Once skaters have completed the levels within the Basic Skills curriculum, they advance to the introductory levels, which are an introduction to competitive figure skating. 12 SHOWCASE EVENTS General event parameters: Show costumes are permi ed, as long as they do not touch or drag on the ice. Props & scenery must be placed and removed by unaided singles & duet compe tors within one minute and by unaided ensemble contestants within two minutes for set up and two minutes for removal. 22 SHOWCASE EVENTS General event parameters: Show costumes are permi ed, as long as they do not touch or drag on the ice. Props & scenery must be placed and removed by unaided singles & duet compe tors within one minute and by unaided ensemble contestants within two minutes for set up and two minutes for removal. A 0.2 deduc on will be assessed by the referee against each judge s mark for each five seconds in excess of the me allowed for the performance, handling props and scenery and or scenery assistance. Performances will be judged from an entertainment standpoint for theatrical and ar s c quali es. Technical ska ng skills and difficulty will not be rewarded; however, ska ng must be a major element of the performance and be of sufficient quality to support the selected theatrical elements. Unintended falls, poorly executed ska ng elements and obvious losses of control will reduce contestant s marks. Jump difficulty is not rewarded in showcase; therefore jumps, if choreographed, should be performed with style flow and confidence. Theatrical elements evaluated will include: energy, poise, ac ng, pantomime, eye contact, choreography, form / extension and the use of props and ice. Showcase groups will be divided by number of entries and ages if possible. 28 EVENT: INTERPRETIVE CHALLENGE General Event Parameters: The Organizing Commi ee will pre-select and edit musical choices. During the warm-up, skaters will hear the selec on of music twice. Following the warm-up, all skaters except for the first skater will be escorted to a soundproof locker room or another area of the arena. The first skater will hear the music one more me and then perform a program to the music. As each skater performs, the next skater in line will be allowed to hear the music for the third me before they perform to the music. The listening skater will not be allowed to view the performing skater. Levels: Beginner & High Beginner No Test Senior Adult Pre-Bronze & Adult Masters Judging Rules: Skaters are judged on originality, pa ern, technical (the ability to include jumps and spins) and music interpreta on/ expression. **Spins and jumps performed must be appropriate to compe on level.
