16 Our Favourite Landmarks Millenium Stadium It is a manmade landmark. It is also called the Principality Stadium The stadium is 19 years old. It is used for rugby matches, concerts and dirt bike racing. The maximum capacity is 74,500. Snowdonia It is a natural landmark. Snowdonia is a mountain range in Wales. Some of it s peaks reach over 3,000 feet. It is know as Eryri by the Welsh. It means The Place of The Eagle Snowdonia has the first people powered roller coaster called The Green Dragon.

24 Llanelli We looked at the Bigyn Primary school in Llanelli. The school has a lovely website with lots of photographs. They have a maths club and an Eco club at the school. They also have sports clubs such a rugby club. Rugby is a very popular sport in Llanelli. The population of Llanelli is 49,591. Llanelli is the largest town in the county of Carmanthessire. Situated in the south coast of western Wales, Llanelli is surrounded by a number of villages and other communities. The town lies on the river Lliedi, although much of the river is not visible, especially from the town center, where the river runs underneath the town.

29 Sport in Wales The Wales National football team represents Wales in international football. It is controlled by the football Association of Wales. Gareth Bale plays football for Wales. Wales does not compete in the Olympics for football. Wales all time olympic tally is 20 gold medals, 11 silver and 18 bronze medals! Their most successful athlete is Paulo Radmilovic who was born in Cardiff! In the RIO Olympics in 2016, Wales brought home a record breaking 10 medals!

30 Rugby Wales is the eighth best rugby team in the world. Rugby union in Wales is the national sport and condisered a large part of the national culture. It is thought to have reached Wales in the 1850s. The main domestic competition in Wales is the Pro 14. They have 4 teams. Wales have won 11 grand slams Ireland beat Wales :) :)

31 Basketball Basketball Wales was founded in 1952 as the Basketball Association of Wales and it is the sole controller of all aspects of the game of basketball in Wales. It is based at the Sport Wales National Centre in Cardiff. In 1978 Wales co-hosted the inaugural Commonwealth Basketball Championships with Scotland and England. In 2012 basketball Wales took part of the Great Britain Mens team that played at the 2012 Summer Olympic in LONDON.

32 History of Wales! It begins with the arrival of human beings in the region of thousand of years ago. Neanderthals lived in what is now Wales years ago. In ancient history during the last ice age, people hunted mammoths. New animals appeared in Wales after the ice age ended in 10000BC such as the red deer and wild bear. Stone age hunters hunted them both as well as plants for food. Farming was introduced into Wales around 4000BC.

33 History In the 9th Century Vikings began attacking Wales. In the 1900 coal mining and iron working in Wales boomed. Other metal industries in Wales such as copper, zinc and tin plating thrived in the 19th Century. The population of Wales grew rapidly despite emigration. In 1801 the population of Wales was less than By 1851 it was nearly 1.2 million. By 1911 it was over 2 million

34 History! The 1920s and 1930s were the years of hardship for Wales. There was a mass of unemployed at the time. Unemployment had already reached 23 percent of the Welsh work force in In the 1930s it grew worse and in parts of Wales half the workforce were unemployed. During WW2 both Cardiff and Swansea were bombed by the Germans. On the other hand full employment fully returned with WW2.

35 Some facts! Wales is a country in Southwest Great Britain which is known for its rugged coastline, mountains, national parks, distinctive Welsh language and celtic culture. Mount Everest was named after Welshmen Sir George Everst. Only 21 percent of the population can speak Welsh! The congi is from Wales. Hello is Helo in Welsh. The British Royal family use Welsh gold for wedding rings@!
