1 2008 Massachusetts Maritime Football Game #9: Framingham State (3-5, 1-4) at Massachusetts Maritime (0-8, 0-5) Saturday, November 1, 2008 Commander Ellis Field, Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts 2:00 p.m. EDT THE GAME: Massachusetts Maritime closes out its 2008 home schedule this afternoon as the Buccaneers tangle with the Framingham State Rams in a New England Football Conference Bogan Division clash. Massachusetts Maritime enters today s action after dropping a wild NEFC Bogan Division decision to Fitchburg State last Saturday afternoon here at Commander Ellis Field, as the two teams combined for 73 points and 837 yards of total offense on the day, including 36 points in the final quarter alone. Junior Alex Butler (Bourne, Mass./Bishop Stang) rushed for a career-high 124 yards and two touchdowns in the setback for the Buccaneers, who also received scoring runs of four and eight yards, respectively, by freshmen Nick Montalto (South Yarmouth, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth) and Matt White (Westwood, Mass./Westwood) as well as a career-best 39 yard field goal from sophomore Jake Bickley (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug Regional). The hosts rushed for 331 yards for the contest (the fifth highest single-game total in school Alex Butler history) to go with 40 passing yards from senior Joe DeFrank (Morgantown, Pa./Twin Valley), who chipped in with a two-point conversion rush in the fourth quarter. White and Montalto combined for 137 rushing yards for the Bucs, who were led defensively by junior Jim Erlwein s (Livingston Manor, N.Y./Sullivan) 13 total tackle performance that featured eight solo stops. Freshman Walter Butler (Bourne, Mass./Bishop Stang) added eight solo tackles for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a fumble recovery and interception from the Bridgewater, Mass. (Bridgewater-Raynham) junior duo of Chris Paze and Mike Dangoia, respectively. Framingham State enters today s action looking to end a three-game slide, as the Rams dropped a 51-0 NEFC Bogan Division decision to Maine Maritime last Saturday afternoon at Maple Street Field in Framingham, Mass. HONOR ROLL HONOREES: Juniors Alex Butler (Bourne, Mass./Bishop Stang) and Jim Erlwein (pictured left) (Livingston Manor, N.Y./Sullivan) each earned spots on the New England Football Conference weekly honor roll on Saturday evening for their performances in Massachusetts Maritime s setback to Fitchburg State last Saturday afternoon. Butler rushed for a careerhigh 124 yards and two touchdowns against the Falcons, while Erlwein led the Buccaneers defensively with 13 total tackles, including eight solo stops. LAST MEETING: Massachusetts Maritime and Framingham State last met on October 27, 2007 at Maple Street Field in Framingham, Mass., and the Buccaneers notched a victory over the Rams. Joe DeFrank completed 19-of-33 passes for 264 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the triumph for the visitors, as he hooked up with sophomore Keith Rudolph (New Bedford, Mass./ New Bedford) on a 17-yard scoring strike just before the half and connected with James McFarland on a 20-yard touchdown early in the fourth stanza. Kevin Berthiaume added a two-yard scoring plunge for the Bucs, who also received a 75-yard punt return from Ryan Howley as well as a 23-yard field goal from Jake Bickley. Howley, A.J. Flemmi and senior Derek Parent (West Springfield, Mass./Science & Technology) each recorded 10 total tackles for Massachusetts Maritime, which scored 30 unanswered points in the triumph. The two teams first met on October 6, 1973 in Framingham (a 19-6 Ram victory), and the squads have split their last eight match-ups after Massachusetts Maritime won seven straight in the series from 1994 through THE BUCCANEERS: Montalto and Alex Butler have combined for 670 rushing yards and five touchdowns to date, while freshman Kyle Moon (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington) has completed 24-of-44 passes for 284 yards and two scores. Senior co-captain Colin Teehan (Plymouth, Mass./ Boston College) has hauled in 13 receptions for 126 yards and one touchdown, while junior Nick Stralka (pictured right) (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) paces the Buccaneers defensively with 72 total tackles, including 44 solo stops. THE RAMS: Junior David Leach leads Framingham State in rushing with 997 yards and 10 touchdowns to date, while senior Bruce Rich (pictured right) has completed 143-of-226 passes for 1,704 yards and 11 scores. Sophomore Jonathan Hayes has hauled in 47 receptions for 620 yards and three touchdowns, while sophomore Joe Treacy paces the Rams defensively with 50 total tackles, including 30 solo stops. HEAD COACH JEREMY CAMERON: Jeremy Cameron is in his fourth season as Head Football Coach at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy. A 1997 graduate of Springfield, Cameron served as an assistant coach at both Bryant and Wagner prior to his arrival in Buzzards Bay, as he sports a career mark of 6-30 (.167) during his tenure. Cameron, who is assisted by Mike Kelley, Mike Rainnie, Rob Davenport, Bob Corradi, John Muldoon, Tom Bresnahan, David MacNeill, John Hirko and Chris Barry, is 1-2 during his career against Framingham State. HEAD COACH TOM KELLEY: Tom Kelley is in his second season of his second stint as Head Football Coach at Framingham State College. A 1976 graduate of Framingham State, Kelley first guided his alma mater for three seasons from 1982 through 1984, as he has compiled an overall mark of (.284) during his five year total tenure. Kelley, who is assisted by Aynsley Rosenbaum, Michael DiCenso, Shawn Theriault, Troy Askew, Joe Pappagallo, Bobby Donovan, Justin Paull, Joe Micco, Patrick Kelley, Andrew MacKay and Mike Croatti, is 0-4 during his career against Massachusetts Maritime.
