He was right at the cutoff while others were on the other end of the spectrum. The size, weight, and skill disparity was too great giving him very little ball time. He went three games in a row without even touching a ball. He could next be expected to develop as a player under those circumstances and this has also hurt his desire to play. They only practice before the games they should have practice during the week too The coach that we had, was obviously no experienced in football or in dealing with children. It was a bad overall experience and my child does not want to play football going forward He was unable to play with like-skilled players. Because Mara allows players to request coaches, that leaves other less skilled players to be placed together OK next question. 8 Any Comments on your child's experience? Text Fantastic season playing for Dennis DiCarlo. I have never seen a coach put so much of themselves into developing players. He is an absolute top knotch coach! Our coach was great. A few coaches however could use some training on coaching youth sports- I saw a lot of arguing with the refs and too much yelling at the kids. My child was often frustrated by the level of flag guarding and the fact that many of the referees were not penalyzing the players for doing it. As a parent it makes my job a lot harder to tell my son to follow the rules while he and the rest of his peers are being shown that breaking the rules is rewarded with wins. Please stress the importance of paying attention and making appropriate calls with the ref's. The 9-11 year old group is a big age range. There were children that were 8 and 12 that were on the team. Please respect the age ranges. Outside of one team, I thought all the coaches, fans and players played with respect, hard work and sportsmanship. If my son was on the one team, not like the others, I would have yanked him from the league. I was also a little surprised by some of the coaching aspects. Being rec flag football, I thought the emphasis would be more on player development. The coaches were definitely more in to standings and playoffs, making sure the older, taller kids were making the plays and the younger kids simply running around I know it's volunteer based coaches. However, with the amount of money we pay, the coaches should be on a hire basis. Our coach did not teach our child anything that he did not already know and it was just not a good investment as far as our son gaining any extra knowledge of the game. He loves it and would enjoy playing flag football again in the fall. I'm so thankful for a flag football program. Our son looked forward to each practice/game, and we thought the experience was very beneficial for him. I know it's difficult to find coaches, but there is a definite difference in the experience and teaching ability of the coaches. Both of my boys have loved their experiences at MARA and have especially enjoyed the supportive and strong coaching they received this year from Coach Tenney Hicks. My son enjoyed wearing the helmet! had a great experience on JPW Green Matter team. Thought there were was fair playing time for the kids and the coach was fair and respectful. also LOVE that practices and games are on the same day Our coach was one of the best we have ever experienced. Coach Pagan was calm, encouraging and taught all of the children! His coach was wonderful. I was very disappointed with the way Mara forms teams. A Skills day would be better than allowing coaches to form their own teams. Weaker teams do not gain confidence or improve by being crushed every week by teams used to playing together or tackle teams. Had I known this was how teams would be formed, I would've chosen a different program. Coach Pagan is outstanding! I personally witnessed coaches of other teams being verbally abusive to their players. Eyewitness other teams playing in an unsportsmanlike fashion. Coach Pagano always stresses Sportsman like conduct and clean play. I do believe that the referees should go through a bit more rigorous training.

The team lost a lot of games because they didn't know how to pull the flag very well. Countless plays where the opponent ran past all players on the field and no one could pull the flag because they weren't reaching in the right place. Practices need to be organized and drills need to be planned. If the coaches are volunteers than the leagues commissioner should get practice guidelines and drill ideas to these parents. He is still learning and it was his first year of coaching. He did well overall, but lot of improvement needed as a coach. Both coaches made playing fun and not too serious! They remembered that these are eight year old boys and were very appropriate with their coaching techniques. He's a good guy, but not a coach Would you recommend this coach to a good friend? Maybe

Did not know there would be a game on Friday. May 20th. This was not included when the original schedule was sent out. Only 5/14 and 5/21. This is causing difficulty in getting players to the game. Picture day was a disaster and lacked communication, helmet distribution was an utter mess and lacked communication. Being on the younger and smaller side of the team, he was not a part of plays but on the outside always running. While trying to pull players away from the runner is important he was not offered an opportunity to learn and grow by being repeatedly pushed out because of his size. 21 Please provide comments/suggestions on the communications from the football program. Date I think information regarding playoff games was a bit late. If you plan on having night games for playoffs that should have been communicated much earlier vs. just wks before. Families make plans long before that and if we knew to at least block out those days/nights then we could have. Only information we were given as the season started was playoffs were May 14th and May 21st with not info that the May 21st game could possibly be a night game and there would be night games on Friday, May 20th. I understand knowing who would play when can not be determined but I think a heads up sooner about the potential times for the play off games would have been extremely helpful. Other then that I think the communication and newsletter were wonderful this season!!! I saw a HUGE improvement from last season. Referees should be more knowledge. too many s!!! I stopped reading them. Big thumbs up with your newsletter. Very well done and fun to read. Volunteer coaches need help with drill ideas and organizing practices. I was not sure how the end of the season was going to work (with "Separation Saturday" and play-offs). I felt like my son was on a team with all new players when it could've been mixed up more so he was playing with teammates bot new AND experienced Pairing teams with similar skill levels Helmet distribution needs to be better. Otherwise, a good season. I totally understand the refs are volunteers. There did seem to be a lot of disconnect between the 2 refs during the games. They appeared unsure when making calls and even missed obvious ones. Consistent coach training - mid season feedback for them might be good. Entire schedule posted at beginning of season. Leveling the differenrence in the level of understand the rules as referees. I noticed a few things with the refs. Overall they did a good job but we had two or three games where the teams didn't switch sides. We had another game that wasn't scored correctly; they gave one of our TDs to the other team which cost us a win. The kids had a great time and I think it bothered me more than anyone else but I just wanted to bring this to your attention. Program is great! Only improvement is what I already mentioned. Would have been nice to have more of a heads up on Playoff game timeframes and dates. We had to reschedule plans due to the later notice. Referees were kids who didn't appear to be monitored very well. Often seemed confused and had to discuss calls. Disappointed in coaches arguing with referees in front of kids and even marking the football for them. This wasn't specific to one game and something I noticed throughout the season. Organization is tons better than when we started playing 4 years ago! More experienced referees. The referees were inconsistent. We had a game that the refs did not even know the score. They had to ask one of the coaches. Some games were great - some not so much. Better balanced teams and respecting the age range. Don't allow players to play up or down. We had an 8 year old and a 12 year old on our team. I think the talent needs to be distributed more evenly. It was clear that some of the team's players have been together before and coached by the same coach giving them a strong advantage. Example: the blue team had a lot of talent. Some of those players could have been disbursed though out the league creating more evenly matched teams. Working score boards would be nice, also an opening ceremony where the player names are announced at the start of the season. Only thing I ever saw off was the clock management by the teenage refs. t consistent with time, communication of it, etc. I think the only issue would be parking. There seemed to be some parents that didn't know certain parking rules/directions. Otherwise, everything was great! Thank you for all your hard work!! Perhaps age and weight brackets, coach training on rotating positions and player development Better coaches that can teach the game - even the volunteers need to be given more support and ideas. A map of the fields explaining where to be and how things were mapped out when fields were on the lacrosse field would have helped. Only other thing I would comment on would be the refs. They on numerous occasions didn't know the rules, made bad calls, and didn't seem to know what they are doing. They need to know the rules of the game or don't allow them to work there. Again, this may have been MY fault, but I didn't realize that the playoffs would extend to May 20/21. That may have been communicated earlier and I just missed it! But, if it wasn't communicated at the start of the season, then that would be helpful. Need to make sure all teams follow the rules or that the refs enforce them. One team had 2 coaches on the field the entire game. I felt the communication at the beginning of the year could have been better. At the end of the year, for the playoffs, we learned that we may have a Friday night game that was never mentioned before. Friday nights are hard and is presenting problems for our team. I felt the officiating was average at best. Very inconsistent from week. Refs would lose track of the downs and even the score

Try to get more parent volunteers (i know its hard) but lots of work for the few who volunteer More practices Equipment issuing was the only problem during flag season. it's all good. Offer it in the Fall and/or Summer leagues. thought the program has been very good, good communication, good coach, good team, all has been good (no complaints minus the helmet distribution) t to stack players that have played with the same coach so they can have a strong team. It's supposed to be a learning experience and once the team starts to lose week after week there is no more learning. It's not positive to watch the team get beat and see their confidence go down week after week because the teams are stacked. Teach officials rules and give them a basic test to pass. It can be dangerous sport - even at this level. The rules are there for many reasons - including safety. thing The only problem I noticed at all this year was that the refeeres were very inconsistent and at some times unfair and confusing to the boys who were playing. Certain things would get called on one team but not the other when it was obvious to the players and parents and the boys didn't understand that. Also at times the refs would look at each other and not know how to call a certain situation or look at each other and not have seen what happened. I know that the boys who are refereeing are probably volunteers as well but a little more consistency would help the players tremendously. The referees need more training. Most did not know the rules. Ensure that coaches are vetted or at least monitored through the year to ensure they know what they are doing, or be given direction from more experienced coaches. Our coach did not have any idea what was going on, and we did not have any drills and learning experiences for the children. Needed greater participation at Tiny Mite level. Give parents a chill pill to relax and let their child have fun. There was one coach we played against that needed that pill also.:) Already commented about forming teams Clean up the website and make navigation more intuitive. It is very difficult to navigate the website on a mobile phone. Overall just a very bad experience. Coaching, referees and organzation was bad. t sure where to start because most need improvement but especially coaches. Maybe start with hiring better coaches.

We have played against coaches that have very poor sportsmanship. I think this really needs to be addressed. not flag football, we are hoping for a better experience with tackle before looking elsewhere Maybe. We need one more year to fully answer this fairly given another year for a chance. Would you recommend MARA Colts Football to other parents and children? I don't think it's fair the way players can request same coach and they are all the best players. It needs to be mixed playing level on teams so that you don't have 1 or 2 teams always losing and getting crushed. Wearing helmets makes it more dangerous in my opinion. That is the decision point for most probably. So my answer is maybe. Same answer as before. I played Division 1 sports and so did my wife. We have never felt that an organization/season was run as bad as this one, and we are now worried that our child may have some negative feelings towards sports in general.
