1 the 37th Sale Market Stabilizes September 15, Berryville, Virginia. The 2009 Eastern Fall Sale showed no change in average sale price from the 2008 Sale. The clearance rate (percentage sold) increased to 78% from 63% in In spite of a 28% drop in the number of horses offered, gross sales fell only 3%. Both the median price and the average sale price for the bottom ten sellers for the sale jumped 62%. This sale was kind of upside down, said Tim Jennings, Director of Marketing for Professional Auction Services, Inc. The bottom end of the market has taken a pounding in year to year, same sale comparisons for a year. The lower priced horses were significantly higher this year. The General Session average sale price rose 16%. Jennings believes that the market has stabilized. "It looks like we're at the bottom of the market. I expect that the fall will bring some modest gains in the broader horse market.
