1 Nutritional support for healthy hooves for horses Support British manufacturing

2 Why Healthy Hooves? The old adage, No Hoof, No Horse emphasises how vital strong and healthy hooves are. The hoof has to bear a large proportion of the animal s weight, so the hoof is of vital importance to horse health. Recent research has shown just how common lameness is with an average 25 lameness episodes per 100 horses/annum. Management factors such as diet, veterinary hoofcare and farriery play a significant role in reducing the incidence of lameness. Thus owners can optimise hoof health through good practice and nutritional support. Metabolic - Complex nutritional factors Infectious - Abscesses and inflammation Key ingredients to naturally support healthy hooves Biotin - Biotin is a Vitamin B coenzyme involved in two major keratinisation processes within the epidermal cells of the hoof. Keratinisation is vital for hoof elasticity and high tensile strength. Signs of Biotin deficiency include inflammation and hoof cracks. Biotin supplemented at supra-optimal levels produced a +15% higher midline growth, which results in the faster growing out of a lesion. If a horse requires Biotin it is recommended they stay on it for life to maintain improved hoof condition. Zinc - Zinc helps to prevent the destruction of keratin and is involved in the health and integrity of the hoof. Studies on groups of horses with poor hoof horn quality have shown lower Zinc blood and hoof levels than those horses with normal feet. This may be due to individual Zinc absorption, metabolism, or retention abnormalities. We use two forms of Zinc including Zinc picinolate, which has better absorption properties for animals with impaired Zinc absorption or retention. Circulatory - Reduced blood flow Common causes of Lameness Laminitis - Especially when at grass Vitamin E - Vitamin E is a vitamin which helps slow cellular aging. Vitamin E is a potent antioxidant that reduces inflammation and accelerates hoof healing. Orthopaedic - Bone and soft tissue damage Farriery - Ineffective shoeing, trimming and balance Echinacea purpurea - A traditional herb also known as the Purple Cone Flower has been used for centuries to improve immunity. Echinacea also has significant antioxidant properties which reduce inflammation. Equine experiments have shown an increase blood lymphocyte and red blood cell numbers so it can be thought of as a blood tonic for horses prone to abscesses or bruises from hooves that are weak and brittle. Methionine - Methionine is a important amino acid and a source of sulphur that is an important building block of healthy connective tissues, such as collagen and keratin

4 Ways to help manage your Horse s hoof condition About nutravet nutravet is an innovative British company manufacturing in the UK. We support animal welfare by offering the highest quality, pharmaceutical grade products made from natural ingredients which are available exclusively through Authorised Veterinary Practices. We are solely committed to nutraceuticals that are natural and environmentally friendly, while focusing on developing quality market-leading products. All our products are developed by vets and tailored to the specific needs of the animal. Top hoof tips include: Regularly pick out hooves - It is important to pick out hooves once a day as part of your management routine. When you do this check for signs of thrush, heat in the hoof, cracks in the wall of the hoof, wounds and punctures. Seek appropriate veterinary treatment if disease occurs. Keep Bedding clean and dry - Good stable management is essential in keeping your horse s feet in good condition and will help to avoid problems like bacterial thrush of the hoof tissue. Check shoes - Look out for raised or risen clenches and worn, cracked or twisted shoes. Have regular Farrier visits - Don t let your horses feet grow too long, this will result in a loss of balance of the foot and cracks which will lead to lameness. In dry weather soak hooves - Soaking your horse s feet in water can help the hooves to retain moisture during hot dry spells of weather. Apply hoof dressing to help seal water. Feed nutrahoof - To improve the condition of your horse s hooves. In addition, ask your vet to help adjust your horse s diet to meet its nutritional needs. Manufacturing and purity Our products are manufactured in a government licensed factory that operates to an internationally recognised code of practice, termed GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice). This requires that all the ingredients in our products must be tested to EU standards for purity before they can be used. We manufacture to pharmaceutical grade standards, we test the purity of our ingredients at the raw material stage and the final completed product stage to guarantee the stated label claim, purity and quality.
