The Duck season kicked off on March 19 th and as we predicted back in January, its been the best one we have seen in 20 years. Word around the traps was that most gun shops had ran out of steel shot shells in the lead up to the opening. Certainly all our suppliers had run out by then. We got our numbers pretty right and were able to supply all of our regular customers right up until close of season. The quail season has also been a stellar one, with many of our customers bagging out. What a difference some rain at the right time of year makes. With a bit of luck, next years seasons will be even better. Deer hunters are in for another bumper season, with our first couple of snowfalls to 500 metres recently in the high country, some big stags have already been taken and the hound hunting crews have also reported a solid start to the season. CSIRO projections for wild pig numbers in NSW and Qld are frightening, with reccomendations of pre emptive aerial shootingto try and keep on top of numbers. All in all, it's a great time to be hunting! Reloaders have recently been under siege by the Victorian Workcover people, who are looking at halving the amount of powder gunshops can carry in stock, reducing the choice that we have offered to you over the last 50 odd years. If this gets up we ( and our competitors) would have to ditch two of our Powder suppliers and carry a limited range of rifle powder only. We are currently fighting this with the Firearm traders association & some of the Shooting associations. We'll keep you posted on this one. Speaking of shooting associations; Woods Point Gun Clubs 40 th anniversary shoot. The Martyn Family have had a long association with the club with Ron being one of the 3 original foundation members and Jon being the original trap boy! It was a great days shooting with beautiful weather and plenty of familiar faces to catch up with. The monthly shoots at the Woods Point Gun Club are a must do for any Clay target shooter.
