1 The 29 th Fairest Cape Tour and SAVVA National Hosted by The Cape Vintage Motorcycle Club, November 2014 Report by Chris Cutler The 29 th Fairest Cape Tour and SAVVA National has come and gone and happily, appeared to have been highly successful with 38 participants and 21 navigators. This year we were privileged to host the SAVVA National in conjunction with our Fairest Cape Tour so a number of cars some rather exotic participated. Scrutineering was leisurely and went off smoothly on the Sunday and the resort reserved a large and comfortable area with cold fruit juices with ice served in the lapa which was much appreciated, as it was a hot day. This was followed by the marshals meeting and the competitors meeting and we must have done something right as there were no problems or route queries. (A first for me!) We did find one minor direction typo error (our fault) on the route schedule prior to the competitors meeting which was corrected and pointed out at the meeting. On the first day the weather was overcast but pleasant with an occasional light shower which did not phase anyone. On the second day, the weather was warm and sunny. One marshal point was scratched due to a road accident which disadvantaged some of the participants. The marshal duties went off smoothly as all marshals were placed by myself this year - while Gavin did the countdown for the participants. Refreshments en route were of a high standard and enjoyed by all and the co-operation of the venues was very good, thanks to Janet and Gavin who insured that all venues were prepared before the arrival of the participants. Their son Drew acted as sweep.

2 The FCT rally was won by Gavin Walton riding an AJS 500. He personifies courage over adversity. Although we placed him between two guys to help him start his bike, he ended up doing it himself anyway and rode with his crutch sticking up behind him like a TV antenna. The SAVVA National First Overall was won by John Ryall driving a Mark 2 Jaguar. There were 87 at the prize giving dinner seated at round tables of 10, and as usual, the staff at Goudini Spa went out of their way to make this a gala occasion the decor was attractive and the food was good and served exactly on time. Everything about the evening flowed smoothly and thanks to Bev for her help in arranging the trophies for the presentations and acting as Trophy Officer. She has the job for life. Live music was again provided for the entertainment of the guests prior to the prize-giving and during dinner which appeared to be well received. Wine was purchased in advance and provided on the tables again this year. We negotiated a special low corkage rate after originally being quoted R35 per bottle. There were happily no mishaps during the event. There were two withdrawals due to mechanical problems. The general consensus from the participants was that the route and the rally proved interesting and enjoyable, and many compliments were received by the Cape Vintage Motorcycle Club (CVMC) as the host club.
