One of the most successful and well-respected coaches in AFL history, Dailey s teams have compiled an overall record of record, a winning percentage of His teams have also made eight postseason appearances and he has won five division titles and two championships. Following the Crush s victory over Kansas City on March 10, 2007, Dailey became only the fourth head coach in AFL history to surpass the 100 win mark. He currently stands as the league fourth all-time winningest coach. In his first season in Colorado, Dailey helped guide the Crush to the largest turnaround in AFL history, inheriting a 2-14 team and leading them to an 11-5 record in In 1999, Dailey led the Albany Firebirds to their only ArenaBowl championship and was named AFL Coach of the Year. Before being named head coach of the Firebirds in 1997, Dailey served as an assistant in Albany for five seasons. 5 LAST TIME THESE TEAMS MET: DENVER (3/25/06) - A blowout loss like the defeat the Crush suffered Saturday night to the Columbus Destroyers is absorbed at a stately, almost deliberate pace, which makes it perhaps the most frustrating kind of defeat of all. It's not like a plunge into boiling water, but rather more like a dip into lukewarm liquid that slowly, surely boils, to the point where by the time you know it's too hot for survival, it's too late to escape. It was a night that started badly -- with back-to-back interceptions on the Crush's opening two drives -- and only got worse from there, as a season-high crowd of 17,416 watched the Crush allow 27 unanswered points in the second quarter to fall behind 34-7 at halftime. By the time the defeat was complete, the Crush had scored fewer points (21) than ever before. The Crush also turned the ball over more times (seven) than ever before in franchise history. Colorado's turnover tally included three interceptions off Dutton's arm and four fumbles. Credit was also due to Columbus, which has emerged with four wins in its last five games. The team's defensive effort was not a fluke; the Destroyers held the Philadelphia Soul to 20 points last week. CRUSH LAST WEEK: NASHVILLE (5/11/07) Playing their second game in just five days the Colorado Crush sweep the season series from the Nashville Kats with a victory on Friday night. The 22-point win was the Crush s largest of the season. In victory, the Crush set a new team record for sacks in the game with five and also added three interceptions and a fumble recovery. Colorado QB John Dutton, named Offensive Player of the Game, finished with 259 passing yards on 27-of-44 throws with six touchdowns and contributed with one rushing score. Crush WR Brad Pyatt registered game-highs with nine receptions for 117 yards and three touchdowns. For Nashville, QB Jeff Smoker recorded four touchdown strikes on 14-of-37 passes for 196 with the three picks. Colorado used an almost perfect first half to build a 27 point lead to start the game. The Crush began with touchdowns from Pyatt and Dutton, on a 14-yard pass and two-yard rush respectively, to jump out 13-0 advantage at the end of the first quarter. The Nashville offense looked to be out of sorts all night as the Colorado defense forced stops on the Kats first three possessions. Nashville would not find the scoreboard till 3:29 left in the half as Smoker found WR Kenny Higgins on a nine-yard touchdown pass. Both teams would add an additional score as the Crush took a lead into the half. Nashville trimmed the Colorado lead to nine points, 30-21, to begin the second half on a 35-yard WR Maurice Brown touchdown reception, but that is all the closer the Kats would come. Between a WR Alzono Nix 23-yard score and a 22-yard WR Damian Harrell touchdown, the Crush special teams recovered a kickoff fumble by Nashville to push the score to Colorado defensive backs Chris Angel and Rashad Floyd would each haul in interceptions in the fourth period as the Crush would captured their second win to close out their recent three-game Central Division road swing. 6 THINGS TO WATCH: YOUNG BLOOD: The Colorado Crush took the field in Week 1 with four rookies on their active roster. Not since head coach Mike Dailey s arrival to Colorado in 2004 has he had that many first-year players on his Crush active roster to begin a season. The Crush currently have five rookies on their active roster with four of those players starting. LOCAL TIES: This season the Crush have found a lot of good-young talent right in their back yard. Here is a list of players that have Colorado ties: - DL QUINN DORSEY attended Manual High School in Denver. - FB/LB ANTHONY DUNN attended Centauri High School in Manassa, CO and later played at the University of Northern Colorado. - OL BRETT HUYSER played his collegiate football at the Air Force Academy. - WR BRAD PYATT has played football at all three levels of his career in Colorado (Arvada West High School, Northern Colorado and the Crush). BUILDING A WINNING TRADITION: The Crush are the winningest team in the AFL regular season since head coach Mike Dailey s arrival, having tied for the league s best record in 2004 (11-5) and finishing with the American Conference s top seed in 2005 (10-6) and 2006 (11-5).
