Watch Live: ACC Network Extra THIS WEEK Indiana Women s Soccer (1-0) continues its start to the 2018 campaign this week as the Hoosiers head south. IU will face Georgia on Friday evening before visiting Clemson on Sunday afternoon. The contest with the Bulldogs will be broadcast live on SEC Network, while Sunday s game at Clemson will be streamed on ACC Network Extra. Both games will be home openers for the opposition. Friday s game against the Bulldogs marks the first of four straight road games for the Hoosiers. SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS This week s match will be the first time IU head coach Amy Berbary will face her alma mater while at the helm of the Hoosiers. Berbary coached against her former team previously as an assistant with Auburn. Berbary played for Georgia from and remains fifth in program history with 26 goals scored and tied for eighth with 58 career points. The game also marks the first-ever clash for Indiana and Georgia in program history. The Bulldogs are 1-1 on the young season after falling to No. 22 Georgetown in the opener, 1-0, and defeating San Diego on Sunday, 1-0. In 2017, Georgia went and returns 15 letterwinners while bringing in 14 newcomers. The youthful Bulldogs tout 11 freshmen and 11 sophomores, including Reagan Glisson who scored the gamewinner on Sunday. Glisson, along with Sydney Shultis, Kayla Bruster and Caroline Chipman were all tabbed for the SEC Preseason Watch List. Freshman goalkeeper Emory Wegener played every minute of the weekend, collecting 11 saves and a 0.50 goals against average. SCOUTING THE TIGERS The Hoosiers will visit Clemson on Sunday to face a team coming off its fourth-straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Tigers went a season ago and advanced to the NCAA Tournament Second Round. Last weekend, Clemson went 1-1 as the Tigers defeated Oregon State before falling to Oregon. Clemson will travel to South Carolina Thursday night before facing the Hoosiers Sunday. Senior Sam Staab, a member of the US U-23 Women s National Team, was named to the Preseason All-ACC Team. The biggest offensive threat returning is Mariana Speckmaier, who scored seven goals and added two assists last season. In goal, sophomore Maddie Weber played every minute of opening weekend and collected a pair of saves. This is the second time IU and Clemson have faced off as the teams met last year in Bloomington. The Tigers used a 32nd minute goal to come away with a 1-0 victory. LAST TIME OUT The Hoosiers opened the 2018 season last weekend at Armstrong Stadium. Persistent rainy weather caused a cancellation of Friday s game against Wake Forest. IU defeated Miami on Sunday, 3-0, with all three goals coming in the opening half. Senior Abby Allen paced the IU offense against the RedHawks as she collected an assist on redshirt senior Annelie Leitner s goal before scoring one of her own just three minutes later. Six Hoosiers played their first career game in an Indiana uniform on Sunday - graduate transfer Claudia Day, sophomores Maddie West, Nicolette Kapsalis and Ana Garibaldi and freshmen Maddie Essick and Madeline Carlson. Allen, along with sophomores Bethany Kopel and Hanna Németh were named to the Hoosier Challenge Cup All- Tournament Team. WHAT S AHEAD IN 2018? The 2018 schedule features five games against 2017 NCAA Tournament participants and six that finished in the top 50 of the final RPI of the year. Eight of this year s opponents were ranked or received votes in this week s United Soccer Coaches Rankings. Indiana continues its four-game road swing next weekend as the Hoosiers visit Peperdine and LMU. IU will round out the nonconference schedule at home against Kentucky (Sept. 7) and Kansas State (Sept. 9). Big Ten play for Indiana opens Sept. 13 against Michigan. Other home conference battles include Michigan State, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Penn State. The Hoosiers will face Nebraska, Iowa, Purdue, Northwestern, Illinois and Maryland on the road. Redshirt senior Mykayla Brown, senior Maya Piper and junior Chandra Davidson highlight that group of starters as the trio were named to the Big Ten Preseason Honors List. Brown, a two-time Preseason Honors List member, is the active team leader in goals scored with 12. Piper led the Hoosiers in scoring last season with seven goals, while also adding a pair of assists. Davidson was close behind with six goals in three of which were gamewinners. The 2018 Hoosiers feature a large senior class with eight donning Cream and Crimson for their final season. Along with Brown and Piper, Abby Allen, Caroline Dreher, Annelie Leitner, Justine Lynn join newcomers Alex Reibel and Claudia Day to represent the senior class. IU will also see the return of junior Allison Jorden, who missed most of 2017 with an injury. Fellow junior Meghan Scott was key to Indiana s backline success last season while also netting a pair of goals and adding two assists. Sophomore Hanna Nemeth is also a key returner to the IU defense as she played every minute of the 2017 season. Sophomore goalkeeper Bethany Kopel also played every minute of the 2017 season. Kopel finished the year with 96 saves, the third-most in the Big Ten and the second-most ever for an Indiana freshman. Kopel earned five shutouts in 2017 and earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors on Oct. 17. THE NEWCOMERS The Hoosiers have six newcomers this season - Day and freshmen Caitlin Arbuckle, Madeline Carlson, Maddie Essick, Natalie Lunt and Sarah Wampler. IU ADDS DAVISON AND BRIZARD TO THE STAFF Assistant coaches Sandy Davison and Daniel Brizard were both added to the staff during the offseason. Davison joined the Hoosiers in March after four highly successful seasons at Washington State. During her time with the Cougars, Davison helped lead the team to a overall record and three NCAA Tournament appearances. Last season, Washington State advanced to the Sweet Sixteen and finished the year ranked No. 19 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll with a mark. Davison has also previously coached at Louisville, Cincinnati and UNC Greensboro. Davison has an extensive background in the youth soccer arena, having been involved with numerous clubs, as well as U.S. Youth Soccer National Teams and the Olympic Development Program. Brizard, a 20-year college coaching veteran, joined the IU staff in June after spending last season as a volunteer coach at LSU. His time with the Tigers marked the second stop in Baton Rouge as he served as an assistant with LSU from Brizard served as an assistant at Rhode Island for three years after a head coaching stint at Tennessee Tech. Prior to that, Brizard also coached at Florida International, University of South Alabama and University of Missouri-St. Louis. Brizard has also been active in the Olympic Development Program since 1994, including serving as the goalkeeping director for Rhode Island ODP from and as Region I coach from Prior to that, he was a head coach for the Tennessee ODP from and the goalkeeper coach for Region II ( ) and Region II ( ). HOW TO WATCH #IUWS The Hoosiers will have a pair of games on Big Ten Network this season - against Michigan on Sept. 13 and at Iowa on Sept. 23. She was named the third head coach in Indiana Women s Soccer history on Feb. 6, 2013, after spending the previous five seasons as an assistant coach at Auburn University. At Indiana, Berbary has coached two NSCAA All-Region selections, two All-Big Ten picks, as well as 75 Academic All-Big Ten honorees and eight Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District Team members. In addition, under her leadership the team has won four Herbert Cups, an accolade given to the Indiana team with the highest GPA, and three NSCAA Team Academic Awards. This past season, the Hoosiers campaign was highlighted by a non-conference slate that included three shutouts. Indiana s 1-0 victory at No. 23 SMU on Sept. 8 was the first over a ranked opponent for the Hoosiers since A 4-0 offensive outburst at Western Michigan on Aug. 28 was the most goals scored in a game since The Hoosier offense was led by career seasons from junior Maya Piper and sophomore Chandra Davidson. Piper netted seven goals and added a pair of assists, while Davidson added six goals with two assists. Three of Davidson s scores came as gamewinners against Western Michigan, Vanderbilt and Michigan State. Redshirt junior Mykayla Brown led the team is assists with a career-best four, three of which were on game-winning goals. In net, the Hoosiers once again saw a freshman goalkeeper anchor the defense as Bethany Kopel ended the year with 96 saves, the secondmost ever for a Hoosier freshman. In addition, her five shutouts were the most for an Indiana freshman since 2007 and tied for most 10th-most in a single season for any goalkeeper in program history. Kopel was third in the Big Ten in saves and ranked near the top nationally all season in goalkeeper minutes played. Kopel earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week accolades on Oct. 17 after posting a career-high 12 saves in Indiana s 2-1 win against Iowa, which is the most in a single game for a Big Ten keeper all season. Indiana saw four Piper, Caroline Dreher, Kayla Smith and Sydney Kilgore earn CoSIDA Second Team Academic All-District, the most in a single season at Indiana. Additionally, the Hoosiers placed 16 on the Academic All-Big Ten list, the most for the program since In 2016, Berbary guided the team to its best overall and conference record and first Big Ten Tournament appearance since The Hoosiers also saw their highest offensive output since 2013, netting 26 goals and 71 total points. IU posted a mark in the Big Ten, including a streak of five straight games earning at least one point, the longest stretch since Redshirt senior Marissa Borschke earned Third Team All-Big Ten honors while Macy Miller was named to the Big Ten s All-Freshman team. Indiana s attack was led by All-Big Ten Tournament Team honoree Mykayla Brown, who scored eight goals, including four in the final three games of the year. The Hoosiers saw five score their first career goal, while six picked up their first career assist. Freshman Meghan Scott had seven assists on the season, tied for the second most ever by an Indiana freshman. In addition, her four helpers in conference action is tied for second most in Hoosier history. Freshman goalkeeper Sarah L Hommedieu earned three weekly conference honors with Big Ten Defensive Player (Aug. 30) and Freshman of the Week (Aug. 30 and Oct. 11). L Hommedieu led the Big Ten with 93 saves, which is tied for seventh most in country amongst freshmen and the second most for an Indiana freshman in history. COACHING EXPERIENCE INDIANA: Head Coach, 2013-Present AUBURN: Associate Head Coach, 2012 AUBURN: Assistant Coach, DAYTON: Assistant Coach, In addition to the program s third straight Herbert Cup, the Hoosiers placed 14 on the Academic All- Big Ten list and saw Borschke earn NSCAA Scholar All-Region honors. The 2015 Hoosier defense posted a scoreless streak of 463 minutes, the second longest in Indiana program history. Goalkeeper Sarah Stone tallied six shutouts on the year with 93 saves, the fifth-most in a single season at Indiana. Stone completed her career ranked near the top of almost every Hoosier goalkeeper category, including second in shutouts with 14 and fourth in saves with 201, making her just the fourth Hoosier to register 200-plus career saves. Indiana once again excelled in the classroom by winning the Herbert Cup in both semesters of the school year, including posting its highestever GPA to capture it in Spring In addition, every eligible member of the team earned Academic All-Big Ten honors with 14 selections. Stone also picked up NSCAA Scholar All-Region honors and was awarded the Big Ten Postgraduate Scholarship. In 2014, the Hoosiers finished with the year with a mark. The defense allowed just 25 goals, the fewest since surrendering 22 during the 2009 campaign. Indiana closed out the year with two consecutive shutouts a 1-0 victory at Purdue and a 2-0 win against Michigan State. In addition, the shutout at Purdue marked the third straight victory against the Boilermakers. On the offensive end, Jessie Bujouves led the attack with 11 points and five goals, including two game-winners. Also netting a pair of game-winning goals was Veronica Ellis, who found the back of the net in

12 HEAD COACH AMY BERBARY the 49th minute to defeat Purdue. Kayla Smith, who scored the winner against Michigan State, was named Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week for her efforts against the Spartans. Indiana s off-the-field accolades included receiving the Herbert Cup for the first time in program history after posting a 3.56 GPA in the Fall 2014 semester and earning the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the fourth straight season. Additionally, 14 Hoosiers garnered Academic All-Big Ten honors, which was tied for fourth-most amongst Big Ten schools. For the second straight year, redshirt senior Rebecca Dreher was named Capital One Academic All-District 5. In her first season in Bloomington, she guided the Hoosiers to a overall record and a 6-5 mark in Big Ten play, earning appearances in the Big Ten Tournament and NCAA Tournament for the first time since The season began with a bang, as the Hoosiers opened the year 8-0-1, setting a new school record for best start to a season. Following the season, she signed a 5-year contract extension that goes through the 2019 season. The team excelled all over the field, posting school records for wins (15), goals (43), assists (46) and shutouts (9) in a single-season. Indiana also claimed its first-ever victory at Purdue and defeated DePaul at home in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament. With all of those team accolades, a number of individual accolades followed, led by Lisa Nouanesengsy being named NSCAA/Continental Tire First Team All-Great Lakes Region and Second Team All-Big Ten. She finished her career in sixth place at IU in points (56) and goals (24) and is the only player in school history to have three games with three goals scored. Another senior, Rebecca Candler, closed out her career with 20 assists, which puts her in second place all-time at Indiana and she holds the top two single-season totals in program history. The Medina, Ohio, native also holds the IU record for most assists in Big Ten play for a career. On the defensive side of things in 2013, goalkeeper Shannon Flower played every minute in goal for the Hoosiers, setting new school marks for wins (15) and shutouts (9) in a season. In non-conference play, Flower allowed just two goals to help the Hoosiers start the year In the classroom, Berbary s squad was just as strong and it was once again led by the upperclassmen. The Hoosiers had 17 players named Academic All-Big Ten while redshirt junior Rebecca Dreher and Flower were named First Team Capital One Academic All-District 5. As a team, the Hoosiers garnered their third consecutive recognition by The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) for posting a 3.0 GPA or above. Before arriving in Bloomington, Berbary spent the previous five seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Auburn. She was named associate head coach prior to her final season with the Tigers while also serving as the recruiting coordinator. In addition, she was responsible for the offensive attack on the field and helped the Tigers to five consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tournament. She was named the 2012 South Atlantic Regional Assistant Coach of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). During her tenure at Auburn, Berbary helped guide the Tigers to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2011 and 2012 while earning the program s first-ever seed in the NCAA Tournament in That came on the heels of winning the 2011 Southeastern Conference (SEC) Tournament and the Tigers made another appearance in the conference tournament title game in The Tigers claimed the SEC West Division crown in 2008 and 2011 as well. Auburn also placed at least one player on the First Team All-SEC in each of the five years that Berbary was there. The 2011 season was a historic one for the Auburn offense under the leadership of Berbary, as the Tigers tallied 50 goals and 61 assists, both ranking as the second-most in a single season in school history. In her five years, Auburn averaged 39 goals scored per season. She coached Katy Frierson to First Team All-SEC honors, NSCAA All-American accolades and she was a semi-finalist for the Hermann Trophy. Berbary came to Auburn after four years as an assistant coach at the University of Dayton, where the Flyers had a.691 winning percentage during her time. She coached a pair of Atlantic-10 Offensive Players of the Year and seven first team all-conference selections. As the recruiting coordinator at Dayton, all of her recruiting classes were regionally and nationally ranked and four times the Flyers had players land on the All- Rookie Team for A-10. Before Dayton, Berbary was the head coach at Gainesville High School in Gainesville, Ga., where she led the team to back-to-back regional championships and a regional record. She was named the Region 7AAA Coach of the Year twice and the 2004 Women s Soccer Coach of the Year by the Gainesville Times. In June 2015, Berbary was named the U.S. Olympic Development Program Region II head coach of the 1999 age group. She also served as a staff coach with the program from She was an assistant coach for Ohio South `91, `90 and `88 girls ( ), the head coach for Ohio South `93 Girls in 2008, a Region II Staff Coach ( ) and a Region III Staff Coach ( ). While earning her degree in Health Promotion and Wellness Education from the University of Georgia in 2002, Berbary was a standout on the field for the Bulldogs. She closed her career in third place on the career goals scored list as well as the career points list. She led the team in scoring three straight years and propelled UGA to the Sweet 16 in 1998 and the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament in Berbary is a graduate of the 2018 NCAA Women Coaches Academy class #44 that was held in Denver, Colo. The NCAA Women Coaches Academy, hosted in partnership between the Alliance of Women Coaches and the NCAA, is a 4-day educational training available to NCAA coaches of all experience levels, and is designed for women coaches who are ready to increase their individual effectiveness by learning advanced skills and strategies that directly affect their personal and team success. A native of Alpharetta, Ga., she played for the Tophat Club program and was an assistant varsity coach at Oconee High School in Watkinsville, Ga. Berbary is also a member of the NSCAA and holds a USSF B License.

13 ASSISTANT COACH SANDY DAVISON SANDY DAVISON ASSISTANT COACH 1ST YEAR AT INDIANA 8 YEARS AS DIVISION I COACH Sandy Davison was named as an assistant Women s Soccer coach on Feb. 21. Davison comes to Indiana after four highly successful seasons as an assistant coach at Washington State. During her time with the Cougars, Davison helped lead the team to a overall record and three NCAA Tournament appearances. This past season, Washington State advanced to the Sweet Sixteen and finished the year ranked No. 19 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll with a mark. In Davison s four seasons in Pullman, 12 Cougars earned All-Pac-12 honors and five were named All-Region. In addition, 35 Cougars have been placed on Pac-12 All-Academic teams and Washington State was awarded the Team Academic Award from United Soccer Coaches in each of Davison s four seasons. Prior to joining Washington State, Davison spent a season as the volunteer assistant coach at Louisville, where the Cardinals advanced to the NCAA Tournament and were ranked No. 24 in the final poll of the season. Davison also spent a season as the volunteer assistant coach at Cincinnati. Davison s first college coaching job was at University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she served as an assistant for the 2011 campaign and led the team to a second-place finish in the Southern Conference. For 16 years, Davison also served as a coach and youth technical director coordinator at some of the most prestigious club teams in the country, including Sereno (Phoenix, Ariz.), Tophat (Atlanta, Ga.) and Pleasanton Rage (Pleasanton, Calif.). Davison has her United States Soccer Federation A Coaching License and received her bachelor s degree from Ashford University.

14 ASSISTANT COACH DANIEL BRIZARD DANIEL BRIZARD ASSISTANT COACH 1ST YEAR AT INDIANA 21 YEARS AS A COLLEGE COACH Daniel Brizard, a 20-year college coaching veteran, was named as an assistant coach for Indiana Women s Soccer on June 5, Brizard came to Indiana after spending last season with LSU as a volunteer assistant and the previous three as an assistant with Rhode Island. His time with the Tigers marked the second stop in Baton Rouge as he served as an assistant with LSU from With the Tigers, he trained the goalkeepers while also scouting and assisting with team video. In addition, he was responsible for team recovery and heart rate monitoring. During his first stint with LSU, Brizard guided the Tigers to three NCAA Tournament appearances and three straight SEC Western Division titles. During his three seasons at Rhode Island, Brizard saw a Second Team All-Atlantic 10 selection and guided goalkeeper Katie Nickles to 298 career saves, good for thirdmost in program history. Nickles posted a 0.76 goals against average during the 2014 campaign, the best single-season showing in the Rhode Island record books. The 2014 season saw the Rams earn a record of en route to the team s first appearance in the conference tournament since Prior to his time at Rhode Island, Brizard served as head coach at Tennessee Tech from Brizard saw three All-OVC Second Team selections and off the field, led the program to an average GPA of Brizard has also spent time as an assistant at Florida International, University of South Alabama and University of Missouri-St. Louis.
