19 ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// CLOSED SESSION Financial Resources W&M Athletics spends more than the average total amount than its CAA peers (3 rd highest total among full members), but also sponsors more sports. Most sports spend far less than the CAA average, though some do spend more. The competitive landscape is more intense for some teams than for others, and more resources are likely required for success in the most competitive sports.
20 ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// CLOSED SESS Total Spending on Athletics W&M Athletics ($27.5M) spent: Above the median for CAA peers ($22.3M, 3 rd highest) Slightly below the median for the academic-athletic peers ($26.7M), and Well above the median for all FCS institutions ($16.2M) $50,000,000 $45,000,000 $40,000,000 $35,000,000 $30,000,000 $25,000,000 $20,000,000 $27,539,637 Total Athletics Expenditures, FY2017 $43,002,934 $43,002,934 $44,652,901 $15,000,000 $16,474,143 $18,815,782 $10,000,000 $5,000,000 $0 $4,332,783 W&M CAA (n=9) Academic-Athletic Peers (n=11) All FCS (n=124) (line: min-max range, box: pctl. range)
