The first goal scored in all three games played during Mark Krikorian s tenure at has proved to be the game winner, as the Noles topped USC 4-0 in 2005 and 1-0 in 2015, while the Trojans posted a 2-0 victory in the 2007 NCAA National Championship game. FSU VS. UCLA Sunday s game with UCLA will be the third time that the Noles and the Bruins have played against each other, but the first time in the regular season or at a non-neutral site. FRESH PRODUCE freshmen have done a great job at transitioning to the next level as the newcomers have scored five of FSU s 12 goals this season and have combined to make 15 starts. Kristina Lynch and Yujie Zhao are tied for the team lead with two goals scored, while Jaelin Howell has added another. Defender Kirsten Pavlisko and redshirt freshman goalkeeper Brooke Bollinger have helped post four clean sheets in the first four matches of the season. COMING OFF THE BENCH For many players that come to, they are not used to coming off the bench, as they have often been one of the best players on their teams growing up. With 24 players that includes a mix of talent from all over the world, it can be difficult to strike into the starting XI, but for those that may not be out there for the opening whistle, they have still been able to stay focused and execute when they have entered the game as six of s 12 goals have been scored by non-starters, including two each against Troy, at Wisconsin and versus Middle Tennessee. With four shutouts to start the 2018 season, has set a program record by not allowing a goal in the first 360:00 of play this year. The four shutouts surpassed the previous record of three games set in 2009 (349:18), 2010 (343:23) and 2016 (294:23). It is the second year in a row that a freshman has recorded a multi-goal game. Redshirt sophomore Malia Berkely aided on two of the three goals on August 26 in FSU s 3-0 win over Middle Tennessee. She started the play for the game s first goal by Jaelin Howell in the eighth minute with a deep run down the right side, while her corner kick in the 63rd minute found Dallas Dorosy in the middle of the box for a perfect header. ACC PRESEASON POLL After earning ACC Championships in five of the last seven seasons, the soccer program is again expected to have a strong season in 2018 as the Seminoles were voted to finish second in the league, as announced by the ACC on Monday. FSU tallied 174 points and trailed only North Carolina who received 183 points and four first-place votes. Junior Deyna Castellanos received a spot on the Best XI First Team, while newcomer Yujie Zhao was named to the Best XI Freshman Team. It is the second year in a row that Castellanos has been chosen to the preseason teams. FSU VERSUS THE ACC The Seminoles closed out the 2017 regular season with an all-time ACC record of is in league play under head coach Mark Krikorian as more than three-quarters of FSU s all-time wins in the ACC have come with Krikorian at the helm. Under Krikorian, FSU is against league opponents at home and on the road. FSU has finished no lower than second place (including ties) in the ACC 10 times ( , ) over the last 13 years, claiming three regular season titles (2009, 2012 and 2014). AUGUST SUCCESS The Seminoles look to continue their early season success with five games in the month of August. FSU owns an all-time record of and has won 40 of its last 43 matches played during the month of August. The Noles are in August under head coach Mark Krikorian and have outscored their opponents all-time in August with 31 shutouts. PUT IT ON FRAME The Noles have dominated their opponents offensively this season and hold a advantage in shots, but those shots have been very precise over the first two weeks as 34 of the have been on goal, with 12 goals scored. 5 NCAA STATS enters the third weekend of the season with a record and ranked No. 4 in the nation by United Soccer Coaches. As a team, the Seminoles are among the top 30 in the nation in 10 different categories, including leading the NCAA with a perfect winning percentage (1.000), goals against average (0.00) and save percentage (1.000). Individually, eight different Noles are among the Top 100 in the country in eight separate statistical categories, with redshirt freshman Brooke Bollinger leading the country with a save percentage and 0.00 goals against average. Malia Berkely s four assists ranks No. 5 in the nation, while Natalia Kuikka, Kristina Lynch, Jaelin Howell and Yujie Zhao are tied for 46th in the country in game-winning goals. In his first 13 seasons in Tallahassee, Krikorian has led FSU to a 2014 National Championshp, eight College Cup appearances, including a recent string of four straight trips ( ), three appearances in the national championship game (2007, 2013 and 2014) and five ACC titles (2011, ). Under Krikorian, FSU is the only school in the nation that has ranked in the top 10 of the final United Soccer Coaches poll 11 times in the last 13 seasons. Krikorian recorded career college win No. 400 with a 2-0 win at Virginia Tech in 2017 becoming the 16th coach across all NCAA divisions, and eighth in Division I, to reach that milestone. Freshmen Kristina Lynch (Granger, Ind.) and Yujie Zhao (Shanghai, China) started at for the Spring 2018 semester and were joined in the fall by Kirsten Pavlisko (Middleburg, Fla.), Jaelin Howell (Lone Tree, Colo.) and Makala Thomas (Los Angeles, Calif.) Coming to Tallahassee for her last year of eligibility, Alexa Orrante (Chino Hills, Calif.) will play for the Seminoles after playing three years at CSU Bakersfield. A quartet of Seminoles will see action in 2018 after not playing in 2017 as Malia Berkely, Kristen McFarland and Caroline Jeffers were all out with an injury, and Brooke Bollinger was redshirted as a true freshman. SPRING 2018 EUROPE TRIP Through generous support of its booster club and fans, the Soccer program was able to travel overseas for an 11-day tour throughout the Netherlands, Belgium and France on May The team played three games against local clubs - ADO Den Haag, Ghent and Paris Saint- Germain - while embarking on numerous cultural excursions and tours. Highlights of the trip included visiting the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam, the Palace of Versailles, the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre. NOLES AT U-20 WORLD CUP has a long history of studentathletes playing at the international level and this year was no different as a trio of Seminoles competed for their home countries at the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women s World Cup. Incoming freshmen Jaelin Howell (USA) and Yujie Zhao (China), along with sophomore Anna Patten (England) participated in the 16-team tournament in France throughout the month of August. Howell started all three matches for the United States as they went and did not qualify for the knockout stage. They lost a close game, 1-0, to group-winner Japan in the opening game and Howell was named ussoccer.com Woman of the Match. Zhao scored a goal in China s first match of the tournament in a win against Haiti, but China was eliminated on a stoppage time goal by Nigeria, for a 1-1 draw in the match, but Nigeria advanced to the knockout stage on goal differential. Patten has started and played all 90 minutes in every match for England in the tournament as the Lionesses won their group after wins over defending champion Korea DPR and Mexico, along with a 1-1 draw against Brazil. England came from behind to post a 2-1 win against the Netherlands on August 17 to advance to the semifinals for the first time in program history. England lost to Japan, 2-0, in the semis and faced France on August 24 in the third-place match, taking home the bronze medal with a 4-2 win in penalty kicks after a 1-1 draw. 6 NINE COLLEGE CUP APPEARANCES FIVE ACC CHAMPIONSHIPS 18 NCAA APPEARANCES

7 MAC HERMANN TROPHY A pair of Seminole student-athletes earned a spot on the preseason watch list for the 2018 MAC Hermann Trophy. Senior Natalia Kuikka and junior Deyna Castellanos were among the 45 players recognized. It marked the second year in a row that both Kuikka and Castellanos were named to the Watch List. It is the 15th straight season that the Seminoles have had a student-athlete named to the preseason Watch List and FSU has had at least two players selected 11 times in the last 13 seasons. In 2007, Mami Yamaguchi won the MAC Hermann Trophy, the first and only player in school history to win the award. Yamaguchi led the country in points that season with 66, while finishing second in goals (24) and assists (18). DEYNA: INT L AMBASSADOR Taking advantage of not only her amazing onfield skills that have seen her earn accolades on the collegiate and international level, along with her celebrity that has given her 1.2 million followers on Instagram and 185,000 followers on Twitter, junior Deyna Castellanos has been representing the sport of women s soccer throughout the world at various events. She was named the CONMEBOL Women s Football Ambassador for the 2018 FIFA U-17 Women s World Cup that was held in Uruguay. Castellanos also traveled to Russia for the World Cup this summer as the FIFA Global Women s Football Ambassador, helping promote the upcoming 2019 FIFA Women s World Cup that will be held in France.
