EASTERN WASHINGTON 8-9, 3-2) In its lone contest last week, Eastern Washington defeated Idaho (71-64) at home. In that contest, senior Delaney Hodgins recorded a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds. Hodgins ranks among the top 10 in the conference in points (19.8), rebounds (8.0), steals (2.3) and blocked shots per game (1.6). The Eagles will host Northern Arizona and Southern Utah this week. IDAHO (6-10, 2-3) Idaho suffered a loss to Eastern Washington (71-64) on the road this week. Junior guard Mikayla Ferenz remains the league s scoring leader (22.9) this season. She is also averaging an astounding 28.4 points per game in conference contests. Idaho will host Southern Utah and Northern Arizona this week. IDAHO STATE (10-6, 2-3) Idaho State got a home win over North Dakota (57-46), but later lost a close game to Northern Colorado (63-57). The Bengals have the second-best defense in the Big Sky, allowing just an average of 63.2 points per game in league games. Idaho State will put that stat to the test as they travel to Portland State and Sacramento State this week. MONTANA (9-8, 5-1) The Lady Griz improved to a 5-1 record and a share of the Big Sky lead with wins over Sacramento State (68-59) and Portland State (69-53). Since the beginning of conference play, Montana leads the league in scoring defense, allowing Big Sky foes to score an average of 59.3 points per game. Junior forward Jace Henderson has helped the Lady Griz carve out some key victories as she recorded a double-double in both games last week. Montana will travel to Montana State for what looks to be another wild rivalry game. MONTANA STATE (9-8, 3-3) Montana State dropped a game to Portland State (69-60), but later defeated Sacramento State (85-50). The Bobcats are ranked third in the Big Sky in scoring defense, so the upcoming rivalry game versus Montana at home looks to be a low-scoring battle, as the Lady Griz rank first in the conference in scoring defense. NORTH DAKOTA (8-9, 1-5) North Dakota lost a pair of games last week to Idaho State (57-46) and Weber State (80-69). The Fighting Hawks rebound the ball well as they rank 37th in the nation with an average of rebounds per game. However, UND just can t seem to score enough points to escape the bottom of the Big Sky standings. North Dakota is back it against Northern Colorado this week at home. Players of the Week Each week of the 2017 season the Big Sky selects an offensive and defensive player of the week. Nominations are made by each institution s SIDs. Follow Us on Social
3 Big Sky Women s Basketball Notebook Team Notes NORTHERN ARIZONA (4-12, 1-4) Northern Arizona was defeated by Southern Utah this past week The Lumberjacks have the worst field-goal percentage in conference games so far this season (35.2%) and will have to improve to take down Eastern Washington and Idaho on the road this week. NORTHERN COLORADO (13-4, 5-1) Northern Colorado lost its first conference game to Weber State this past week (82-73). However, the Bears rebounded and edged Idaho State on the road to finish the weekend 1-1. Northern Colorado will travel once again this week to take on North Dakota. The Bears are very tough to beat with a lead in the fourth quarter as they ranked second in the nation in team free-throw percentage (83.3%). PORTLAND STATE (9-7, 3-2) Portland State snapped Montana State s 31-game home winning streak in a win. The Vikings suffered a setback later in the week, falling to Montana Since Big Sky Play began, Portland State has emerged as the conference leader in team field-goal percentage (46.6%). The Vikings will host Idaho State and Weber State this week. SACRAMENTO STATE (3-13, 1-4) Sacramento State lost to both Montana (68-59) and Montana State (85-50) last week. As a team, the Hornets average the most blocks per game (4.8) in Big Sky contests. Sacramento State will host Weber State and Idaho State this week. SOUTHERN UTAH (3-13, 1-4) The T-Birds edged Northern Arizona last week. Southern Utah s sophomore guard Rebecca Cardenas came up clutch in that contest as she swiped five steals and scored 20 points. Southern Utah will hit the road once again to play Idaho and Eastern Washington this week. WEBER STATE (12-4, 4-1) Weber State scored a huge victory against previous conference unbeaten Northern Colorado (82-73) last week. The Wildcats finished off the weekend with another win over North Dakota (80-69). Senior guard Larryn Brooks scored 32 points against Northern Colorado and Weber State hopes she can have similar performances against Sacramento State and Portland State this week.
