6 **Team Reminders** To participate in any aspect of Greek Week Student Organization Spirit Contest, each team MUST submit a roster of all current roster members. PLEASE be aware that no players will be added to a team roster after this form is submitted and only active members can participate in competition. There will be no substitutions or exceptions. The ONLY teams that may pair up together are the NPHC organizations with each other and the Multi-Cultural organizations pairing together BUT they must gain approval first from the Kimmel Fraternity and Sorority Life Advising Team. NO OTHER PAIRINGS ARE ALLOWED AND SPORTSMANSHIP POINTS WILL BE DEDUCTED IF THIS IS NOT FOLLOWED OR ARGUED WITH. o "Pairing" is defined, but not limited to, "Mini-Mixers" throughout the Greek Week timeframe, "using your resources" or using a "losing" group's items to bolster your own organization, and any other action deemed in violation of this policy by the Greek Week committee and FSL Advising Staff. Teams will be assigned to one of three divisions that they will be competing against. The PHC sororities will be labeled as Division A ; The IFC fraternities will be labeled as Division B ; NPHC & MGC organizations will compete as Division C. **Chapter Rep Meeting Informational & T-Shirt Orderings** T-shirt orders will be done online this year. When ordering, please select your organization s name from the drop down menu so distribution can flow better. If your chapter needs to make a bulk order, please contact Jacob Dicus at jdicus@siue.edu to setup the details. Orders are due Feb. 15 th by midnight. Chapter Representative meeting will take place on February 28th at 2:45pm in SSC Romm Each organization wanting to participate in the Greek Week events MUST register at the given link to participate in Greek Week but does not have to attend this meeting [Be aware that if you do not attend this meeting, your organization will not obtain attendance points while also losing an opportunity to ask vital questions for clarity]. Notes: Chapters that are on a form of suspension may not apply for Chapter awards BUT may still apply for any individual awards. These awards are for events, individuals, efforts, etc. for the year 2015 ONLY. All awards are reviewed by the various Kimmel Staff Members that are involved with Fraternity and Sorority Life. GPA award information is what is given to us from the Registrar s office at the end of semester reports of the Fall 2015 semester. If a grade change is made after the fact, it is the individual s responsibility to contact the Kimmel with verification. 8 Overall Rules: ONGOING EVENT: LETTERED CHECK-IN EVENTS To gain points for Lettered Check-In at mentioned events above, your Greek-Lettered apparel must be in the form of a shirt or pants/shorts. Hats, bags, sunglasses, etc. will not qualify for points. Be aware that most events will also have a max amount a chapter can earn to be fair to chapters with smaller numbers. ONGOING EVENT: SPIRIT STICK At the end of each day, the organization that is deemed, by the Greek Week committee and FSL staff, as having the most Greek Unity spirit and support of their fellow competing organizations will design a portion of the Greek Week Spirit Stick. The stick will be divided into 6 different sections for each day and once won, you may design it in any way you desire & the overall, week spirit winner will be announced at award day. EVENT #1: PENNY WARS Date: March 29 th & April 5 th [Center Court], March 30 th & 31 st ; April 6 th & 7 th [Goshen Lounge] Time: 11am 1pm all days Each group will be given a jar that they can decorate (NO GLITTER!) and returned to the Kimmel Student Involvement Center. At each date listed, the jars will be available for Greek Week participants to use at an informational table. Pennies count as one cent (positive points) each but silver coins and paper money (including checks) count AGAINST that team (negative points). This is where the competitive nature comes into play. Teams can then place silver coins and paper money into their competitors jars themselves. The respective fraternity and sorority that has the most positive points will win Greek Week King and Queen. For example: Pennies are positive points and silver coins/dollar bills are negative points o $1.00 bill = -100 points o $5.00 bill = -500 points o 1 Nickel = -5 points o 1 dime = -10 points o 10 pennies = +10 points o 200 pennies = +200 points 7 P a g e

9 EVENT #2: ALL-GREEK PHOTO & GREEK GAMES Date: Sunday, April 3 rd, Korte Stadium Time: 4pm 1. All Greek Organizations will meet on the Korte Stadium field by 3:30pm for organization check-in. a. For this photo, the large, wooden letters will only be used in the background of the photo. The smaller, 2 feet tall wooden letters, along with flags/banners are the only items that can be held in the crowd along the edges of the group. b. It is recommended that members were block-lettered t-shirts. c. Teams are also encouraged to take their team photos here (see next event) 2. Teams of up to 5 members need to be checked in by 3:30pm as well in order to compete in all races excluding the Human Pyramid Relay Race which requires 10 members. 3. There will be multiple rounds separating the following races: a. Part 1 Events: Ping Pong Run, Three-Legged Race, Balloon Race, and Dizzy Bat. b. Part 2 Event: Human Pyramid Relay Race. 4. Each member of the organization s team must compete in at least one of the races. 5. All organizations (in each division) will race at the same time. Part 1 Race Rules: 6. The first round will be a Ping Pong race. a. Ping Pong race will be down and back on marked areas with a spoon being held with the mouth placing a Ping Pong ball on the spoon. b. No hands are allowed, if the pong ball falls, you must return to the start line. 7. The second round will be a three-legged race. a. Partners are required for this race. b. Participants inside legs will be tied together and the first team back wins. 8. The third race will be a balloon race. a. Partners will stand with their backs facing each other. The balloon will need to be suspended between the two of them. If the balloon pops your team is disqualified and if balloon is dropped, contestants will be required to restart. No hands. b. Two members are required, and will switch at the end line. 9. The fourth race will be a Dizzy Bat Competition. a. A team of 3 will each, individually run a designated length, then rotate a designated number of times, chug a diet soda, repeat the rotations, and run back. All members of the team will repeat this procedure. The team with the shortest time wins. 8 P a g e

10 Part 2 Rules: 10. The last race will be a Relay Race to form a Human Pyramid. 11. This race requires 10 members total. 12. Teams will start at the starting line. When race starts, teams will have to travel a determined distance while doing a Piggy-Back race. a. If member is dropped, the pair must come to a complete stop and then can continue on. 13. Once across the field, the ten members must form a human pyramid and hold it for 20 seconds. a. If anyone except for the bottom row touches the ground, the team is eliminated. 14. Once a Greek Week committee member informs your team the 20 seconds are over, the team must return back to the starting line while doing a wheel barrel race. 15. See the following video for example of this relay race: EVENT #3: TEAM FLAG/PHOTO CONTEST Date: Starts Monday, April 4 th -- Liking ends Friday, April 8 th at 2pm Flag Rules: 1. Each team will create a flag that will be checked-in at the Greek Games Event. Team Flags are highly encouraged to be flown at Greek Week events to promote Team Spirit throughout the week. Similar to campus banner guidelines, flags shall not depict alcohol and/or drug use, illegal acts, or slanderous statements, and shall be sensitive to all ethnic, racial, and gender groups. No flag shall contain political or controversial themes. 2. Organizations must provide their own flag that must not exceed Banner size must be a minimum of 3 x 5 and not exceed 5 X Flags must include the SIUE Greek Week 2016: Greatest Show on Earth theme and the organization s name. 4. Points will be awarded based on the following three criteria to earn a maximum of 30 points for this portion of the event: Relevance to Greek Week Theme, Originality/Creativity, and Showcasing Organization s Name. Liking Contest: 1. At the Greek Games event, teams should take a team photo displaying their team spirit and the team flag. If not taken by an FSL Advisor, each photo needs to be send to Jacob Dicus at jdicus@siue.edu so these photos can be uploaded to the SIUE Fraternity and Sorority Life Public Facebook Page. a. Photos should be sent by 10am on Monday, April 4th 2. Once the photos are received, the photos will be posted and a liking competition will commence. Likes will only count towards your team up until Friday, April 8 th at 12pm. 3. The team from each division that receives the most likes will earn 30 points. 9 P a g e

11 EVENT #4: RESTAURANT FUNDRAISER Date: Monday, April 4 th, Location TBD Time: 3:45pm 10pm There will be a profit share restaurant fundraiser during Greek Week. A provided flyer must be given to your server when you receive your check for the percentage to go towards the fundraiser. If you show the flyer on your phone Make-A-Wish will still get the fundraising money but it will not count towards spirit point percentages. EVENT #5: CHARIOT RACE Date: Tuesday, April 5 th, SIUE Quad Time: 2pm 1. All organizations participating must come prepared with a version of a chariot. 2. The chariot must have only two, working wheels and be capable of transporting one passenger while being pulled by two of their own org. members. 3. Participants will race around the Quad in full for each division. 4. Extra points will be rewarded to the team with the best Carnival themed costumes and chariot. EVENT #6: AMERICAN RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE Date: Tuesday, April 5 th, SIUE Morris University Center: Illinois-Mississippi Room Time: 10am 5pm [Actual Event is from 11am 4pm] Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center will be helping us set up the event where they will be taking and banking blood from our student body. Please note that all potential donors will need to provide their driver s license (or a student ID if they know they can provide their social security number). Tips for a Successful Donation: o Maintain a healthy iron level in your diet o Get a good night s sleep o Hydrate o Wear clothing with sleeves that can be raised above the elbow o Relax o Take time to enjoy a snack and drink immediately after donating o Drink an extra four glasses of liquids over the next 24 hours. To obtain points, 10 separate individuals from your organization can either donate blood or volunteer. You must note in your team registration how many members you intend to be a part of this event and if they are donating blood or volunteering. Each form of participation is 20pts per person (max of 200pts). o Assignments will be ed to your respective chapter representative. 10 P a g e

12 EVENT #7: DODGEBALL IN THE STUDENT FITNESS CENTER Date: Friday, April 8 th, Activity Center in the Student Fitness Center (By Freshens) Time: 5pm Participants must bring their SIUE I.D. with them to every intramural game. THE TEAM 6 players will play for each team at one time. There must be a minimum of (4) players in order to avoid forfeit. Substitutes may only enter the game during timeouts, injury, or be the first to enter after a team catch is made (only with less than 6 players on the court). THE COURT Each game will be played within the boundaries of a basketball court and will be marked with black lines. During play, all players must remain within the boundary lines. EXCEPTION: Players may leave the boundaries through their end-line only to retrieve stray balls, and must return through their end-line. 1. If a player exits or re-enters at any point of the court other than their own endline they will be called out. 2. If a player steps on or beyond the center line, that player is out. Players that are out must go to the bench area. A player only can come back in to the game, if a teammate catches a ball. EQUIPMENT & START OF GAME Six (6) balls will be used during a game. Games will begin with the dodgeballs being placed at the centerline, and participants lined up behind their respective end line. Upon the Supervisor s whistle, players may run up to the centerline to get the balls, BUT NO BALL may be thrown until it has been brought back into the 3 point arc. THE GAME The object of the game is to eliminate all opposing players by getting them out. This may be done by: 1. Hitting an opposing player with a thrown ball below the shoulders. If you hit an opponent above the shoulders, you are OUT. If a player ducks or lowers their head and the ball hits their head, the player will be out. This is not considered a head shot because the ball was not aimed at the head. A player may use a held ball to block a thrown ball. If a held ball is hit, the thrown ball becomes dead. However, if the held ball is dropped due to contact by the thrown ball, the player who dropped the held ball is out. Players may NOT throw a ball at another ball in an attempt to block it. If they do so, he/she will be out. 2. Catching a ball thrown by your opponent before it touches the ground. If multiple people are hit before the ball contacts the ground, all players who were hit are out. If the ball is caught in the air after striking another player, only the thrower is out. 3. By the order of the players, once a ball is caught the first person who was hit out will be allowed back in if a teammate catches a ball. ****Once the ball hits the ground, wall, divider, ceiling, it is considered dead. **** 11 P a g e

13 GAME LENGTH A regulation match is no longer than 15 minutes. Matches will consist of 3 sets. Winners will be determined by best 2 out of 3. Each set will be capped at 5 minutes. If a team has all players eliminated prior to the 5 minutes time limit, then that team will receive the loss for that set. If both teams still have active players on the court at the 8-minute mark, then the team with more players standing will receive the win for that set. WAYS TO WIN 1. Eliminate your entire opposing team before time is up. 2. Have more players remaining on the court than your opponent, when time is up. 3. In the event of a tie, we will go into a one-minute sudden death overtime, involving only those players remaining at the end of regulation. The team to eliminate one opponent first will be declared the winner. RULES ENFORCEMENT 1. Any dispute that cannot be resolved by the players will be ruled on by the Supervisor. 2. The Supervisor s ruling is final. EVENT #8: PHC PRESENTS CRAYON-STRUCTION COMPETITION BENEFITING EDWARDSVILLE/GLEN CARBON AREA Date: Wednesday, April 6 th, Goshen Lounge Time: 10am 11:30am Chapters will bring as many school supplies and hygiene products to the Goshen as they can and will attempt to construct a statue/sculpture out of the items they are donating. All proceeds will be donated to local underserved establishments. o PLEASE keep all bags, boxes, etc. that were used to transport the materials to campus so they may be used by volunteers for transportation. Only school/hygiene items can be used for the construction. No other materials will be allowed to construct buildings. You may use other materials for decoration but be aware these items could end up being considered illegal materials for this event USE AT OWN RISK! Building can begin at 10am. The can-structures will be judged by members of the Greek Week Committee beginning at 11:30am and will be rated on creativity, tallest structure, and correspondence to theme of the week as well as amount of donations. 12 P a g e

14 EVENT #9: STUDENT GOVERNMENT PRESENTS TUNNEL OF OPPRESSION Date: Thursday, April 7 th, Meridian Ballroom Time: 10am Participants visit a series of connected rooms, each portraying some form of oppression, prejudice or discrimination. The themes are a secret to assure visitors experience the full impact. In previous years, experiences have focused on such issues as cultural biases, religion, sexual orientation discrimination, drug abuse, race, gender, body image, child abuse and various other types of discrimination or oppression. Organizers seek to create realistic, eye-opening experiences that illustrate what it s like to be treated unfairly, to be laughed at or mocked, to be invisible. The goal is to increase understanding, get people talking and bring about positive change. To gain points, 25% or 35% of your chapter must sign-in and visit the event. EVENT #10: BATTLESHIP AT THE VC Date: Thursday, April 7 th, Vadalabene Center Indoor Pool Time: 8PM All students, faculty or staff can participate provided they meet the eligibility requirements outlined in the Intramural Sports Participants Handbook. All participants must present a valid SIUE Cougar Card. NO ID, NO PLAY! Battleship shall take place in the Student Fitness Center Pool, adjacent to the Vadalabene Center. DISCLAIMER: This event is in the pool. Life vests are available and recommended to participants who may feel the need to wear one. TEAMS: Each team will consist of 4 people Team composition may be any combination of males and/or females. A player may only play on one (1) team. EQUIPMENT: Canoe All canoes will be provided by CREC. No modifications and/or additions may be made to the canoes. Buckets Each participant will be provided with one 2-gallon bucket to use during competition. Participants are not permitted to bring their own bucket, and each person may only hold/use one (1) bucket at any time. 13 P a g e

15 Attire Appropriate swimwear attire must be worn at all time. A cotton t-shirt or swim shorts may be worn over top of swimwear, however, may not contain self-applied paint and/or ink of any kind. Protective knee pads may be worn. Life Vests Although not required, CREC strongly encourages and will provide them. Only personal flotation devices provided by CREC may be worn. Eyewear Protective eyewear, such as goggles, are recommended but not required. Jewelry Jewelry, casts, headwear, or any unyielding items may not be worn (CREC discretion) Any other equipment is not permitted, including, but not limited to sponges, shields, water guns, bilge pumps or paddles. The final decision on any questionable items will be at the discretion of Intramural Sports staff. COMPETITION FORMAT: A battle will consist of four (4) boats competing simultaneously. The number of boats per game may be altered depending on the number of entries. (CREC Staff) Playing time shall be 15 minutes, with a continuous running clock. Should time expire with multiple canoes remaining, those teams will compete in a 5 minute overtime period, within a restricted playing area. If at the end of overtime, there is still not a reigning boat, the canoe holding the least amount of water (as determined by the Official) will be declared the Champion. THE GAME: Teams will battle until there is only one (1) remaining canoe afloat. Teams will begin with three (3) members seated in their canoe, and one (1) member in the water as the Skipper. The Skipper will assist in steering/guiding the team s canoe, and must hold onto the bow at all times. Upon the Official s whistle, teams may maneuver their canoe and attempt to flood the opponents boats with water. Teams may propel their canoe using hands only. Buckets may only be used to flood opponents boats Buckets may not be used to bail water from your boat. Buckets may NOT be thrown. If a participant drops a bucket that cannot be reached, the following may occur: o The Skipper may retrieve the bucket, but must remain in contact with the canoe s bow at all times. o Opponents may retrieve the bucket, provided they follow the same rules above. Participants may NOT stand in the canoe. Participants may NOT steady their boat using the pool wall or other boats. 14 P a g e

16 Participants may NOT attempt to tip opponents canoes by grabbing buckets, the canoe, or the opponent s themselves. RUBBER DUCK TORPEDOS (if applicable) o Every 5 minutes a whistle/horn is blown and a number will be called by the CREC Staff. The skipper must find the rubber duck that corresponds to that number. The skipper that finds the duck first, saves their team from a bucket penalty (Rubber duck torpedo). Each team member from the losing teams must each dump a full bucket into their canoe. PENALTIES: Violation of any of the above game rules will result in a Battleship Penalty: o All team members of the penalized team must fill their buckets with water and pour it into their own boat. This penalty will serve as that team s first of two (2) warnings. Any successive rule violations will result in team disqualification. BATTLESHIP SUNK: A canoe is considered to be sunk when either of the following occurs: o A team member falls/jumps out of the boat. o The entire canoe is submerged under water. Upon defeat (from sinking or disqualification) all participants must immediately abandon their canoe and exit the pool at the nearest wall. o Participants may NOT hinder or interfere with the remaining boats in any way. This may lead to future disqualification. **Since this event will take place with non-greek organizations. The fraternity and sorority that lasts the longest of our participating groups will receive the points. If a team ends up winning the overall event, there will be an ADDITIONAL 20pts added to that organization s score. EVENT #11: RELAY FOR LIFE Date: Friday, April 8 th, SIUE Korte Stadium Time: 6pm 12am The American Cancer Society Relay For Life movement symbolizes hope and our shared goal to end a disease that threatens the lives of so many people we love. If cancer has touched your life, participating in a Relay For Life campus event is a way to take action and help finish the fight. This is your opportunity to honor cancer survivors, remember those you have lost, and raise funds and awareness to fight back and help finish the fight against cancer. 15 P a g e

17 To register a team, go to the following link: d=72935 This event is a 6-hour event to benefit the American Cancer Society. The theme for Relay for Life is also Carnival themed so throughout the night you may sponsor a booth to raise money for your team. Activities suggested include: Carnival Games, Carnival Food, Face Painting, etc. you can make it your own and will get additional points for sponsoring a booth. o You may set-up your section at 5:30pm but you must provide your own tables, equipment, etc. o If you wish to volunteer during the event they in need of volunteers as well. There will be periodic Letter Check-In s at three separate times for points. The times are 6pm, 9pm, and 12am The Relay for Life team will be providing updates for the event leading up to the event so be on the lookout for them. In case of rain, the rain location is the Edwardsville High School. Details will be provided in such a case. EVENT #12: STROLL & CHANT SHOWCASE Date: Friday, April 8 th, SIUE Korte Stadium Time: 8pm A stroll is a synchronized dance performed by a line of members to rhythmic music. A maximum of TWELVE performers per performance group is permitted. If a group RSVPS then chooses not to perform, they will not receive participation points and will be docked 10 points from their overall total. All anticipated performers must fill out the release waiver. Members of the Greek Week executive board are not eligible to participate in Greek Stroll. Performance time is limited to a maximum of three minutes per group including set up and take down and a minimum of two minutes. Time will begin as soon as the music begins; Time will end as soon as the music ends and the participants are done strolling. During the performance, any group performing outside of its allotted 2-3 minute period could lose sportsmanship points. Official timekeepers, as a part of the Greek Week Executive Board, will be present at the event. No animals will be allowed. No explosives, fire, or any other devices that may be damaging will be allowed on stage. No objects may be thrown off the stage during the performance and all extraneous materials must be cleaned off the stage during the time requirement or a penalty of 10 points will result. Any damage done to the facility is the financial responsibility of the organization. 16 P a g e

18 Be advised: Greek Week Executive Board and FSL Advising staff members must deem all acts in good taste. Obscenities and discriminatory behavior will not be permitted. This includes music, language, behavior, gestures, and partial/total nudity. Acts should not offensively reflect characteristics of any group or organization. Any such acts will result in disqualification. These actions are left to the discretion of the aforementioned groups. All Greek Stroll participants are expected to comply with the instructions of any FSL Advising staff member, Greek Week Executive Board member and/or the venue s employees. Failure to do so will result in disqualification of the responsible organization. Alcohol will not be tolerated. If any member (pledge, new member, current, or alumni) of an organization is found in possession of alcohol or visibly under the influence at the event, he/she will be asked to leave the event and their organization will be disqualified that organization will lose ALL points related to Greek Stroll. There will be no toleration of negativity to any other finalist, Greek chapter, SIUE organization or student or faculty member. This will be left to the discretion of the Greek Week Executive Board. Such behavior will result in instant disqualification. Music must be provided ahead of the event at a TBD date. Stay tuned for updates. Follow the link below to see another university s version of this showcase. o EVENT #13: FRATERNITY & SORORITY LIFE SERVICE DAY Date: Saturday, April 9 th, Edwardsville/Glen Carbon Community Time: 10am For this new event, each participating chapter/team will meet in the Kimmel Student Involvement Center promptly at 9:15am to check-in with the Greek Week Committee before getting service assignments that will be throughout the Edwardsville/Glen Carbon area. Each team can have a maximum of 10 members participate in this event at 30pts per person. You must RSVP the number of people that you intend to have during this event through the CollegiateLink form listed on the front page of this document. Be aware that there will be a deduction of points if you do not provide the number of members you provide on the form. Be aware that you will have to drive yourselves to each destination so carpool accordingly and you must fill out a liability waver. 19 EVENT #14: CLOSING CEREMONY: GREEK AWARDS BANQUET Date: Sunday, April 10 th, MUC Meridian Ballroom Time: 6PM This award ceremony is a celebration of our community and the accomplishments of our chapters and our members, and ends Greek Week It is a presentation of awards to individuals and chapters that have excelled in specific areas during Members of the community, as well as staff will present these awards. Chapters NEED to have as close to full membership presents as possible. Awards are organized by the Fraternity and Sorority Life Staff and Order of Omega. There are several individual and chapter awards that will be awarded. Formal/Badge attire is recommended for this event. 18 P a g e
