Snidow, a native of Princeton, W.Va., began his coaching career at Tazwell (Va.) High School. He also coached at Roanoke College - where he played football while earning his bachelor s degree - and Emory & Henry College, where he led two teams to the Tangerine Bowl. He is a member of the athletic halls of fame at Wofford, Emory & Henry, and Roanoke. Snidow was an offensive innovator. He was one of only a handful of coaches to use the option-oriented Wing-T formation, and some of his former players say he invented the veer long before Bill Yeoman - the University of Houston coach who was credited with creating it. Name Change On December 15, 2006, the NCAA adopted new terminology to represent the over 200 football playing institutions that compete in Division I. The NCAA eliminated the I-A and I-AA designations and has streamlined all of its Division I football programs into two subdivisions: Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) and NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). The FBS includes those programs that compete in an effort to participate in the postseason bowl system (the 32 NCAAlicensed events which include the Bowl Championship Series). The FCS includes those programs (such as Wofford) that compete in an effort to participate in the NCAA championship postseason structure (one of 88 NCAA national championships). FCS has a limit of 63 scholarships, while the limit for FBS schools is 85. Previous Name New Name Division I-A NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision I-A (acronym) FBS Division I-AA NCAA Football Championship Subdivision I-AA (acronym) FCS College Football Rule Changes The NCAA has enacted a number of rule changes for One change that will be most obvious is moving kickoffs from the 35-yard line back to the 30 in order to create more kickoff return opportunities. Two other key rules that were in effect in 2006 and were intended to help speed up the game have been rolled back. This year, as was the case in 2005, the game clock will stop when a team earns a first down and the clock will start on kickoffs when the return team legally touches the ball, rather than when the kicking team contacts the ball.
