16 Buffalo Sabres: Head Coach and Player Bios Head Coach: Dan Bylsma Dan Bylsma is in his second season as head coach of the Sabres after being hired as the 7th head coach in franchise history on May 8, 05. In his first season with the team in 05-6, Bylsma guided the Sabres to a 7-point improvement. Buffalo finished 5-6- overall and enjoyed the second-largest points percentage improvement in franchise history. Bylsma joined the Sabres after spending six seasons as the head coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins, where he led the team to a 5-7- overall regular-season record and became the winningest head coach in Penguins history. The Grand Haven, Mich. native began his coaching career in as an assistant coach for the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks (AHL). He also served as an assistant for the New York Islanders in , and for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins from to before being named head coach of Wilkes-Barre/Scranton for the season.
