In simple English, imagine a spectrum going across from left to right, with negative numbers on the left side, a zero in the middle and positive numbers on the right side. We utilize this statistic for football, baseball, basketball, hoops and NASCAR as well as hockey. For hockey, we use all of the standard fantasy categories listed on the draft board to factor in for this statistical compilation. A player s performance in each category is plotted on one of these spectrums, with the most valuable players putting up most of their numbers on the most of their numbers on the positive side. Then, we add up the totals of every category, positive and negative. By using this tool, we can identify not merely how they performed, but how valuable their performances were in each category. Truly, this statistic serves as the ultimate baseline for the previous season s production.

7 Suggested League Guidelines We recommend that you hold your auction or serpentine-style draft with 10 owners, selecting 18 players (6 defensemen, 3 goalies, 3 left wings, 3 centers, 3 right wings). In case of an auction, use a financial system that allots an average of $11 per player. Our preferred style of play is head-to-head roto, in which teams compete on a week-to-week head-up basis. Recommended categories are points, goals, assists, penalty minutes and plus-minus for forwards and defensemen and wins, least losses, shutouts, goals-against-average and save percentage for goalies. A rotating tiebreaker category should be utilized in the case of a 5-5 category tie. The starting lineup should consist of 2 goalies, 2 left wings, 2 centers, 2 right wings and 4 defensemen. Jeff, Rick and Tim moved away from the run on forwards towards the end of the round. Round 2: Jeff and Rick went against the grain by staying away from forwards again. Round 3: Jason, Mike V and Mike P established amazing first lines at forward. Round 4: Four rounds, three Hawks for Nate; four rounds, four Penguins for Samm. Wow! Round 5: Jason s faith in goalie and defense depth was proven correct. Round 6: After waiting through the first four rounds, Tim went back-to-back for defensemen and came out just fine. Round 7: Jason s move for a second goalie at the end of the 6 th round started a run that included Jon, Samm, Jeff, Rick and Russ. Round 8: Tim, Mike V, Jeff, Samm, Nate and Jason established this as the how the mighty have fallen round. Rounds 9-12: A decent run on forwards in the 9 th round set the stage for mostly defensemen to be drafted in the last three rounds. Great Sports Name Hall of Fame Mere words cannot do it justice! Pullins Law: PullinsLaw.com Providing services to small businesses, individuals, financial entities, and political organizations A Plan To Improve The NHL & NBA Regular Seasons By Rick Morris/The FDH Lounge I ve long been interested in the idea of what the NHL and NBA could do during the winter to break up the long, grey slog of their 82-game slates. My idea is one that is unlikely to ever go forward, but it is one that could cause both hockey and hoops fans to look forward to individual nights during the week just a bit more. It involves the two leagues striking a deal to have their own nights from Monday-Thursday. Friday-Sunday would work well as a free for all that maintains the present format. But, for the sake of argument, the NBA would claim Mondays and Wednesdays as (mostly) exclusive, with every team in the league playing, and the NHL would claim Tuesdays and Thursdays as (mostly) exclusive, with 30 of the 31 teams playing. The exceptions to the rule would involve the national TV contracts. Exclusivity need not be absolute for these purposes in order to bring more intrigue to the weeknight schedule. If the NBA played one or two nationally-televised games on an NHL night and the NHL did likewise on NBA nights, then fans of the one league would still get a full slate while fans of the other league would still get a small taste to satiate their appetites until the big haul the next night. For the NBA, the TNT deal can still work with two exclusive games on Thursday nights and there s little to nothing that would need to change with the ESPN, ABC and NBATV deals. ESPN and NBATV could get a couple of Tuesday games in there at various times. For the NHL, the Wednesday night deal could either stay on that night as the equivalent of the TNT Thursday night NBA slate, providing a feature game or two on the NHL s off night, or it could move to Tuesdays or Thursdays on the NHL s full night, with NBCSN and the NHL Network claiming other nights during the week as they see fit within their contractual rights. NBC would still do pretty much what they re doing now. While the majority of teams in both leagues don t share arenas, there are enough that do use the same facility that this demarcation between game nights would make scheduling far easier for everyone involved. Additionally, even for teams in the same market with different arenas, like the Twin Cities or Phoenix, keeping both of them off of the same night should help increase the gate for each of them. And generally having more clarity about what the landscape looks like during weeknights in the winter might add a bit more excitement to regular seasons that can often be plodding in both the NHL and NBA.
