Adams A satisfied handicapper as the top 6 walkers finish within 17 seconds after 24 minutes of racing. As in race one in March Ana Garcia came through the field to take the lead in the 125m finishing straight and crossed the line with a 7 second advantage over Ella Sharkey who was the winner of Race two. In race two Ella won in a photo finish, a photo finish this time gave her second place ahead of Peter Bilson. Four personal bests were achieved. Hewitt Cup Round G. Smolinski Emma Achurch (Countesthorpe College), fresh from representing Great Britain in the World Cup Junior Women s 10km. race in Taigang (China) set a new club record for the 2km. course at Humberstone Park of 9 minutes 36 seconds. She took 3 seconds off the time set by Fiona McGorum in Her sister Laura (Leysland High School) was runner up with Hollie Maddison (Blaby Stokes) in third place. Ben Allen (Leysland High School) was undefeated in last year s Hewitt Cup series and returned to win the boy s race in the good time of 10 mins 45 secs ahead of the Blaby Stokes pair of Marty Ross and Mutende Lupunga. With one race of the series to go, Hollie maintains her lead in the girl s league ahead of Laura and Lyla. The boys league is really close with Mutende just 2 points ahead of Jake and Marty who are tied in second place. Style Awards were awarded by the 4 judges to Ben, Frank Bannister and debutant Kacey Walker. Dates for your diary All at Humberstone Park 6.30 p.m. Tues. June 3 rd. Hewitt Cup #3 Tues. June 10 th. 2 Sean Pender Trophy: 2Km track handicap: Osmond Priaulx, Guernsey By R Elliott Newcomer is first winner of Sean Pender Trophy The first winner of the Sean Pender Trophy is Marie Macdonald, who in her first race walk, took advantage of her scratch handicap to cross the line in for the 2000 metres track walk. Second woman home, Kay Coulson starting thirty seconds behind tried hard to close the gap, but only managed to chip away a second in time. A close third was Kevin Le Noury, who had a good race and kept his two sons at bay as they finished in fourth and fifth places. Eldest son Stuart recorded the quickest time of the day with a new personal best time of , followed by Jason Le Noury`s and Phil Lockwoods There should be some interesting short distance races between the women this coming season with Jayne Le Noury s actual time of 14.21, only 15 seconds ahead of the next two walkers Kay Coulson and Marie Macdonald, with Rita Herridge another eight seconds behind. Sean Pender, the Southern Area RWA President, who donated the trophy, made the visit to Guernsey to walk the race, coming home in ninth place. 27/04/14 Sarnia Walking : Heritage Group Championships 10 kilometres road walk, Quayside, North Side, Guernsey By R Elliott Le Noury walks to win Stuart Le Noury walked to a convincing victory in the third race of the Heritage Group Championships finishing in for 10 kilometres. Second across the line was Phil Lockwood with a clocking, only slightly slower than his walk time recorded last week in the GIAAC Easter run. Phil walked three of the four 2.5 kilometre laps were walked at a level pace before he dropped off the pace a little in the final lap. The walk of the day was by Rita Herridge who finished behind Jayne Le Noury in the Women s Championship, but only a minute outside of the Guernsey women s age best time. Her time enabled her to finish in first place in the handicap section of the walk, well ahead of Phil Lockwood in second place. Sarnia Walking ; Graham Mann Team Trophy; 3 kilometres handicap road walk by R Elliott The two Le Noury brothers teamed up with Kay Coulson to take victory in the Graham Mann Team Trophy over three kilometers. The handicapped event was won individually by Stuart Le Noury who walked his best time for a while with an actual time of 14.18, followed by Kay Coulson who was only seconds outside of her time from last year s event. Another good walk from newcomer Rita Herridge gave her third place. The third walker of the winning time was Jason Le Noury who suffered with a hamstring problem in the latter part of the race, but had done enough to help the team. There is a change of date for the Championship walk originally down for Sunday July 13th. It will now take place on Friday July 11th at 6.30 pm at Footes Lane over 3,000 meters. Page 2 of 16

Dan King CH Steve Uttley Ilf Keith Palmer Sth John Brock Sth Peter Cassidy Ltn Dave Ainsworth Ilf In perfect conditions just 6 started & finished (numerically as 2013), with Mike Croft being the only Judge. International Dan King had things his own way as he achieved the feat of lapping the entire field while retaining his title. Steve Uttley remained in touch after an impressive start but for most of the race found himself somewhat isolated. All 4 back markers ended on the same lap which showed some semblance of a competition. Medallists received acclaim with a podium presentation by the Essex County AA President. Former Southend-on-Sea AC walker June Cork gave a constructive commentary throughout and, referred to the small field by stating that this event needs more participants! In the Boys 1,000 Metres, sole entrant E.Layzell (Ltn) clocked Sarnia Walking Heritage Group Championships Race 4: 10 miles road walk, Pleinmont to Lancresse, Guernsey By R Elliott Stuart Le Noury walked to victory in the fourth Heritage Championship race over 10 miles in 84.36, six minutes ahead of second man home Jason Le Noury. 16 On Saturday 13th September the Race Walking Association are to stage a Tribute Luncheon in honour of the 61 walkers who have represented England, Scotland, Wales and the Isle of Man at the Commonwealth Games since race walking was introduced in 1966 when the games were held in Jamaica. On that occasion England provided the winner in Ron Wallwork who won the 20miles event and he is still active in our sport today! (Photo of Ron Wallwork by Express Newspapers/Getty Images) Double Olympian Joanna Jackson (England) is a reigning Commonwealth Games Champion and she will reign somewhat longer due to our event being edged off the 2014 Commonwealth Games programme, but walking will return in Australia come This major function will in some way offset the profound disappointment caused by our 2014 exclusion. A tribute booklet with biographical details of those 61 is being considered, similar to that much sought after (and now sold out) Olympians' Booklet. The luncheon will be held at The Tower Thistle Hotel, London E1 overlooking the River Thames and the Tower of London. It has a car park and is within sight of 3 railway / tube stations (Fenchurch Street/Tower Hill/Tower Gateway). It will be a carvery style luncheon in a room that has a capacity to sit 140. The lunch time function provides an opportunity to attend by cheap-day return without the need for an overnight stop. We hope that as many of you will attend for what promises to be a truly memorable occasion. The cost is only and tickets are available from - Pam Ficken, Owl Cottage,101 Meldreth Road, Whaddon, Royston, SG8 5RS Cheques should be made out to the Race Walking Association. For further information please contact Peter Marlow Lunch Page 16 of 16
