5 DigiTRON + and DigiTRON e ROV Connectors Subsea Connectors for Controls & Instrumentation Applications DigiTRON + and DigiTRON e ROV Connectors ROV Notes ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) Deployment 4 way DigiTRON ROV connectors are compatible with 4 way Mini CE ROV connectors. 7 and 12 way DigiTRON ROV connectors utilise high-density inserts and are NOT Mini CE compatible. Siemens Subsea strongly recommend that ROV connectors are isolated from CP systems to minimise calcareous growth. The use of dummy connectors is advised if the pins on receptacles are likely to be exposed to seawater. The advised maximum cumulative exposure over the life of the connector is 28 days, although some pin deterioration may occur in a shorter period. For this reason, DigiTRON stab plate connectors are not always compatible with Mini CE. The use of dummy connectors is advised if the pins on receptacles are likely to be exposed to seawater. Termination to a cable with larger conductors is achieved by using crimps and tailing wires. A gland extension piece is used to accommodate this arrangement. Fixed & Floating Mounts One connector in a stab plate pair is normally fitted with floating mounts, the other is fixed. Floating mounts allow approximately ±1 mm movement laterally. Split Flanges Split flanges can be provided so that pre-terminated harnesses can be passed through the hole in the stab plate and then fixed from the other side.
9 DigiTRON + and DigiTRON e Diver Connectors Subsea Connectors for Controls & Instrumentation Applications DigiTRON + & DigiTRON e Diver Connectors Diver Notes Diver Deployment A threaded clamp ring ensures secure, low-force clamping of connector pairs without galling Connectors are manufactured from UNS S31603 stainless steel (also available in UNS S32550) for a 30 year design life when deployed in conjunction with a cathodic protection system DigiTRON Diver connectors are not compatible with the Mini CE Range. Mini CE diver connectors were always manufactured with dual keys whereas DigiTRON have a single key. In emergencies, it may be useful to note that a 4 way DigiTRON diver plug will physically fit into a 4 way Mini CE receptacle. Severe damage to both connectors will occur unless care is taken to ensure that the single key on the DigiTRON plug is fitted into the 12 o clock keyway on the Mini CE receptacle. 7 and 12 way DigiTRON connectors are NOT Mini CE compatible. 12 DigiTRON + and DigiTRON e Junction Boxes Subsea Connectors for Controls & Instrumentation Applications DigiTRON + and DigiTRON e Junction Boxes (3000 meters depth rating) Junction Boxes for cable Although not as simple as oil tube junction boxes, cable junction boxes are available in a wide range of configurations. Cable junction boxes are usually gel filled and pressure compensated. For permanent fixtures, cables enter through penetrators fitted with pressure compensated cable glands. Disconnectable Junction Boxes Disconnectable junction boxes can be provided through standard DigiTRON bulkhead connectors fitted to a gel filled pressure-compensated acetal chamber. Connection is made via in-line DigiTRON connectors terminated to cable or AquaTRON oil tube. ROV Retrievable Electrical Distribution Units Siemens Subsea can now offer various ROV Retrievable Electrical Distribution Units (REDU s). These can be base plate mounted on client structure and are available in a range of connector configurations. The units have cathodic protection through the mating connectors on the Electrical Distribution Unit and base plate.

This does not replace the existing REDU but offers 4000 meters operation with a higher specification of up to 11 connections. The units have full cathodic protection through the input connector on the base plate which can be configured as the CP connection only. 14 DigiTRON + and DigiTRON e AquaTRON Oil Tube Subsea Connectors for Controls & Instrumentation Applications DigiTRON + and DigiTRON e AquaTRON Oil Tube Oil tube jumpers and harnesses are an alternative to cable. They are formed by pulling conductors through the AquaTRON hose, cutting to length, terminating the conductors to the solder cups, fixing the oil tube to the connector backshells, leak testing and filling with oil. AquaTRON is more flexible than cable and is often more convenient for short jumpers and / or complex harnesses consisting of several oil tube segments, connectors, sensors, actuators and marshalling or junction boxes. Complex harnesses and jumpers can be procured on a single purchase order, factory assembled in ideal conditions and delivered with full warranty. AquaTRON hose is available in two sizes; 12.7 mm (0.5 ) and 19 mm (0.75 ) diameter bore. Harnesses can include connectors, actuators, sensors and junction boxes. The junction box usually serves one of two purposes: 1 Distribution One input signal is distributed to several outputs. An insert facilitates insulation around the conductor junctions. 2 Marshalling One input connector has it s conductors marshalled to several output connectors. In this configuration, no inserts are required. 16 DigiTRON + and DigiTRON e AquaTRON Isolated Chamber Junction Boxes (4000 meters depth rating) Subsea Connectors for Controls & Instrumentation Applications DigiTRON + and DigiTRON e AquaTRON Isolated Chamber Junction Boxes Isolated Chamber Junction Box (ICJB) This is the evolution from our current standard AquaTRON Junction Box. This new product does not replace the existing design but offers an alternative solution giving customers a higher specification design which is pressure compensated, isolated and will work to a depth of 4000 meters. Currently available in Stainless Steel (UNS S31603) as standard (cathodic protection required). Siemens Subsea supply the full connection system from the Umbilical Termination Unit fitted to the umbilical cable, the infield jumper taking the power to the Tree Cap, through the Tree, and finishing at the Tubing Hanger Receptacle. We supply both single feed-through and dual feed-through systems. SpecTRON 5 (5kV(U)) and SpecTRON 8 (8.7kV(U)) subsea electrical connectors meet the requirements for ESP systems. MUDLINE PUMPING SYSTEMS Siemens Subsea deliver SpecTRON 10 (10kV(U)) subsea electrical connector systems designed for the power requirement of Multi Phase Pumps (MPPs), Single Phase Pumps (SPPs) and Gas Compressors. SUBSEA POWER DISTRIBUTION MPPs (Multi Phase Pumps), SPPs (Single Phase Pumps) and Gas Compressors often require the power to be transferred through a subsea transformer. To accommodate this requirement we have a SpecTRON 60 (60kV(U)) penetrator to interface with the high power umbilical. 20 SpecTRON 5 5kV (U) 200A Connector Subsea Medium and High Power Electrical Connector Systems SpecTRON 5 5kV (U) 200A Connector Systems An ESP power feedthrough system typically comprises an Umbilical Termination Unit to splice the umbilical power cores to flexible leads which then terminate into a Wet Mate Receptacle. A flying jumper links the umbilical to the Xmas tree. A penetrator in the tree cap provides a pressure retaining feedthrough to a wet mateable tree cap plug, which mates with a wet mateable receptacle in the tubing hanger. The tubing hanger receptacle is pressure retaining and engineered to withstand the hostile environment of aggressive chemicals at high temperature. The tubing hanger receptacle is terminated to downhole motor cable which ultimately connects to the pump. Electrical Submersible Pumps (ESPs) have been used since the early 1990s to enhance oil recovery from deepwater and marginal wells. Siemens Subsea, has been heavily involved in providing ESP connection systems since those pioneering days and Siemens subsea 5kV 200A (SpecTRON 5) connectors are now seen as the industry standard with deployments worldwide. The connection system is a 3-phase, 2.9/5(5.8)kV system qualified to a water depth of 1330m (200 bar test). Wet mate connectors can be configured as ROV, Diver or Stab Plate mated. The penetrator and tubing hanger receptacle are designed to API standards and differential pressure rated to 260 bar (520 bar test). These allow power to pass from the umbilical through the subsea tree to the ESP. SpecTRON 60 was developed to meet the ever-growing demand for connectivity between higher voltage umbilical cables and subsea transformers, making it possible to achieve longer step-out distances and higher power loads required by projects such as subsea gas compression. What makes SpecTRON 60 unique is the sealing and barrier philosophy developed for the penetrator. The design not only meets the requirements of TD0153, which allows insulation to be the second barrier to sea-water, but surpasses it. Having an additional sea water barrier prevents water treeing in the insulation. This is a specific feature of the SpecTRON 60 design to ensure that the insulation system is never exposed even if the primary sea water barrier is breached.

This range is currently qualified to a maximum working pressure of 15,000 psi, temperatures up to 149 C and is rated for gas wells. The Electron range is the industry leader in providing and maintaining high integrity downhole signal continuity and reliability. Siemens Subsea are also in the process of standardizing interfaces for the range of vertical systems that will allow the customer to standardize, using only one set of interfaces, irrelevant of individual project pressures and temperatures. 30 ElecTRON 15,000 psi Standard Single Pin Horizontal Feedthrough System Subsea Electrical Instrumentation Feedthrough Connector Systems ElecTRON 15,000 psi Standard Single Pin Horizontal Feedthrough System Number of Contacts 1 The standard single pin horizontal feedthrough system is rated at 15,000 psi, 140 C (Gas), with systems also available rated up to 149 C (Gas). These feedthrough systems use standard A70 dry mate plugs which mate with the single pin dry mate receptacle on the underside of the tubing hanger. The signal wire is fed through the tubing hanger cavity to a single pin wet mate receptacle connector. A single pin wet mate plug connector is compliantly mounted inside an actuator sleeve assembly within a bonnet assembly which enables a connection between tubing hanger and tree. An internal penetrator and a DigiTRON Receptacle outlet complete the feedthrough system. A jumper harness, utilizing AquaTRON hose and DigiTRON controls connectors, can then be used to maintain the signal continuity of the feedthrough system, on to the control pod or intervention monitoring equipment. Once the tubing hanger has been run, an ROV operates a mechanism on the outside of the bonnet to move the carriage horizontally and mate the connectors. Retrieval is the reverse of the sequence; first the ROV de-mates the connectors and then the hanger can be pulled. If there is an emergency and the tubing hanger has to be removed immediately, the wet mate plug is designed to shear. This prevents the tubing hanger from being locked in. This is in the form of a 2 pin dry mate connector pair. Each connector consists of one body with multi-pin internals. We also offer a 3 way (plus earth) feedthrough system, which utilizes a similar 3 way in-line dry mate receptacle splitter assembly and which connects up to 3 dry mate plug connectors. Temperature & Pressure Ratings Splitter: -18 C to ,000psi (Gas) 18 C to ,000psi Number of Contacts 3 The multi-pin horizontal feedthrough system is rated at 10,000 psi, -18 C to 145 C (Gas). This gives up to two downhole signals (plus earth) which are terminated to standard Siemens Subsea A70 downhole dry mate plugs. These mate with a 2 way splitter which is fixed to the under-side of the tubing hanger. The signal wires are fed through to a 4 pin wet mate receptacle connector. A 4 pin wet mate plug connector is compliantly mounted inside an actuator sleeve assembly within a bonnet assembly which enables a connection between tubing hanger and tree. An internal penetrator and a bonnet adaptor leads to the subsea environment where AquaTRON hose connects to DigiTRON stab plate receptacle connector, which is used to enable signals to be sent to the control pod or to intervention monitoring equipment. The top of it mates with the tree mounted wet mate plug mandrel and the bottom of it is a drymate receptacle which mates with the dry mate plug. Valve Block Components The wet mate plug mandrel is factory terminated / tested and screws into the valve block. The mandrel uses a 1/8 diameter metal tube that is sealed to the body and fed through the valve block cavity. This tube provides protection for the wire. The tube / wire is then terminated to the well head outlet and DigiTRON wet mate receptacle. The DigiTRON wet mate receptacle is then mated to the DigiTRON diver mated plug. Number of Contacts 1 Instrumentation Feedthrough Systems for Vertical Trees Metal / metal and elastomeric sealing components are used for optimum performance and flexibility. All field assembled components are fitted with test ports to ensure integrity before deployment. The single pin vertical feedthrough system is rated at 15,000 psi with working temperatures up to 135 C. 36 ElecTRON 10,000 psi Single Pin Vertical Feedthrough System Subsea Electrical Instrumentation Feedthrough Connector Systems 10,000 psi Single Pin Vertical Feedthrough System (Increased Vertical Compliance) Valve Block Components The wet mate plug which is mounted to the valve block, has greater vertical compliance than the standard vertical system. This is achieved by utilizing a spring energised design with an internal flexible coiled signal wire tube. A metal tube with an electrical wire is terminated to the back of the plug. This tube then feeds up through the valve block cavity and is terminated to the well head outlet and DigiTRON receptacle which mates with a DigiTRON diver mate plug. This system has been developed by Siemens Subsea to meet the demands of projects which require a greater level of vertical compliance and is the preferred choice for certain regional applications. The system is rated at 10,000 psi, up to 135 C and is suitable for use with gas wells when used with the tubing hanger connector. Design Improvement The design of the wet mate plug connector has recently been improved to allow in-country replacement of the metal tube to re-terminate to the well head outlet. This is a significant step forward in assisting Customers in reducing tree re-work lead times.
