2 Section 3 : Hazards Identification Health Rating : 1 - Highly Flammable, irritant, liquid. In use, may form flammable / explosive vapor-air mixture Inhalation : Vapors may cause drowsiness and dizziness Skin : Irritant Eyes : Irritant to eyes Ingestion : Consumption can cause severe intoxication Section 4 : First Aid Measures General : If breathing fails, apply artificial respiration. Inhalation : Nausea and stomach pain may occur. There may be vomiting. Drowsiness or mental confusion may occur. There may be loss of consciousness. Remove casualty from exposure ensuring one s own safety whilst doing so. If unconscious, check for breathing and apply artificial respiration if necessary. If unconscious and breathing is OK, place in recovery position. If conscious, ensure the casualty sits or lies down. If breathing becomes bubbly, have the casualty sit and provide oxygen if available. Transfer to hospital as soon as possible. Skin : There may be irritation and redness at the site of contact. Remove all contaminated clothes and footwear immediately unless stuck to skin. Drench the affected skin with running water for 10 minutes if substance is still on skin. Transfer to hospital if there are burns or symptoms of poisoning. Eyes : There may be irritation and redness. Bathe the eye with running water for 15 minutes. Transfer to hospital for Specialist examination. Ingestion : Nausea and stomach pain may occur. There may be vomiting. Inhalation of fumes from the stomach may cause symptoms similar to direct inhalation. Do not induce vomiting. If conscious, give 1 pint of water to drink immediately. If unconscious, check for breathing and apply artificial respiration if necessary. If unconscious and breathing is OK, place in recovery position. Transfer to hospital as soon as possible. Section 5 : Fire Fighting Measures Suitable Extinguishing Media : Carbon Dioxide Non-suitable Extinguishing Media : None quoted Special Exposure Hazards in a Fire : Highly flammable. In combustion emits toxic fumes. Vapors may travel considerable distance to source of ignition and flash back. Forms explosive air-vapor mixture Special Protective Equipment for a Fire. Other Information : Section 6 : Accidental Release Measures Personal Precautions : Eliminate all sources of ignition Mark out the contaminated area with signs and prevent access to unauthorized personnel. Turn leaking containers leak-side up to prevent escape of liquid. Environmental Precautions : Do not discharge into drains and rivers. Contain the spillage using bunding. Methods for cleaning up : Absorb into dry earth or sand. Transfer to a closable, labeled salvage container for disposal by an appropriate method. Wash the spillage site with large amounts of water. 3 Section 7 : Handling and Storage Ensure there is sufficient ventilation of the area. Avoid direct contact with the substance. Smoking is forbidden. Use non-sparking tools. Your attention is drawn to guidance published by the HSE. The safe use and handling of Flammable Liquids HS(G)140. This document provides advice on the zoning around work areas. In the absence of the quantifiable assessment the zoning distances for Zones 1&2 should be 2 and 4 meters respectively. Store in cool, well-ventilated area. Keep away from sources of ignition. Keep container tightly closed.
