2 C.T. MALE ASSOCIATES Engineering, Surveying, Architecture & Landscape Architecture, D.P.C. 50 Century Hill Drive, Latham, NY FAX October 27, 6 Mr. Thomas M. Touseau Reeds Ferry Elementary School 36A McElwain Street Merrimack, New Hampshire Re: Soil Sampling Results Reeds Ferry Elementary School Merrimack, N.H CT Male Project No Dear Mr. Touseau: With approval from the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (NHDES), C.T. Male Associates Engineering, Surveying, Architecture & Landscape Architecture, D.P.C. (C.T. Male) has completed an investigation of the surface and nearsurface soils within your property. The investigation was completed in accordance with C.T. Male s Work Scope titled Surface Soil Sampling, Towns of Merrimack and Litchfield, NH, dated April 25, 6 and approved by NHDES on April 27, 6. As shown on the attached Site Map, soil samples were collected from pre-selected locations within the property. Soil samples were collected from the following depth intervals: ground surface to 6 ; 6 to 2 ; 2 to 8 ; and 8 to 24, unless hand auger refusal was encountered at a particular sampling interval. Where auger refusal was encountered, it was due to the presence of an obstruction such as large gravel or cobbles. The collected soil samples were shipped to and analyzed by Eurofins Lancaster Environmental Laboratories (ELLE) of Lancaster, Pennsylvania under a chain of custody document. Additionally, quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) samples were collected during the sampling event and submitted along with the soil samples. The soil and QA/QC samples were analyzed for Perfluorinated Compounds (PFCs) by EPA Method 537 Rev. - Modified, Total Organic Carbon (TOC) and moisture content. The individual PFCs analyzed by ELLE and minimum reporting limits (MRL) are as follows: Individual PFCs Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) Perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) MRL Architecture & Building Engineering Civil Engineering Energy Services Environmental Services Survey & Land Services

3 C.T. MALE ASSOCIATES October 27, 6 Thomas Touseau Page - 2 Individual PFCs Perfluorobutanesulfonic acid (PFBS) Perfluoroheptanoic acid (PFHpA) Perfluorohexanesulfonic acid (PFHxS) Perfluorononanoic acid (PFNA) Perfluorohexanoic acid (PFHxA) Perfluorodecanoic acid (PFDA) Perfluoroundecanoic acid (PFUnA) Perfluoroudodecanoic acid (PFDoA) Perfluorotridecanoic acid (PFTriA) Perfluorotretradecanoic acid (PFTA) Notes: denotes nanogram per gram or parts per billion (ppb) MRL Following receipt of the final analytical reports from ELLE, the data was subjected to validation by an independent third party data validator. The analytical results for the soil samples and QA/QC samples are presented in the attached Shallow Soil Sample Analytical Table. The data presented is considered to be validated. During the validation process, the data is independently reviewed and qualified if necessary, based on the validation criteria established by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA). The notes within the table define the data validation qualifiers to the data. As presented in the attached table, the analytical results are compared to the NH Direct Contact Risk Based (DCBR) Concentration in Soil per the NH Environmental Health Program (EHP) - NH DCRB concentration in soil (Consoil) Screening Value from NHDES Memorandums dated June 7, 6 and June 28, 6. NH EHP has developed soil criteria values for PFOA and PFOS. The values established for PFOA and PFOS are as follows: PFOA: 500 (parts per billion) for a young child (residential) PFOS: 500 (parts per billion) for a young child (residential) As presented in the attached table and laboratory report, the results for each of the soil samples collected from your property are below the NH EHP PFOA and PFOS soil criteria values. The full data deliverable package from the laboratory and the data validation report will be provided in the Sensitive Receptor Summary Report submitted to NHDES and available on OneStop at

25 Explanation of Symbols and Abbreviations The following defines common symbols and abbreviations used in reporting technical data: RL Reporting Limit BMQL Below Minimum Quantitation Level N.D. none detected MPN Most Probable Number TNTC Too Numerous To Count CP Units cobalt-chloroplatinate units IU International Units NTU nephelometric turbidity units umhos/cm micromhos/cm ng nanogram(s) C degrees Celsius F degrees Fahrenheit meq milliequivalents lb. pound(s) g gram(s) kg kilogram(s) µg microgram(s) mg milligram(s) ml milliliter(s) L liter(s) m3 cubic meter(s) µl microliter(s) pg/l picogram/liter < less than > greater than ppm parts per million - One ppm is equivalent to one milligram per kilogram () or one gram per million grams. For aqueous liquids, ppm is usually taken to be equivalent to milligrams per liter (mg/l), because one liter of water has a weight very close to a kilogram. For gases or vapors, one ppm is equivalent to one microliter per liter of gas. ppb parts per billion weight Results printed under this heading have been adjusted for moisture content. This increases the analyte weight basis concentration to approximate the value present in a similar sample without moisture. All other results are reported on an as-received basis. Laboratory Data Qualifiers: B - Analyte detected in the blank C - Result confirmed by reanalysis E - Concentration exceeds the calibration range J (or G, I, X) - estimated value the Method Detection Limit (MDL or DL) and < the Limit of Quantitation (LOQ or RL) P - Concentration difference between the primary and confirmation column >40. The lower result is reported. U - Analyte was not detected at the value indicated V - Concentration difference between the primary and confirmation column >00. The reporting limit is raised due to this disparity and evident interference Additional Organic and Inorganic CLP qualifiers may be used with Form reports as defined by the CLP methods. Qualifiers specific to Dioxin/Furans and PCB Congeners are detailed on the individual Analysis Report. Analytical test results meet all requirements of the associated regulatory program (i.e., NELAC (TNI), DoD, and ISO 7025) unless otherwise noted under the individual analysis. Measurement uncertainty values, as applicable, are available upon request. Tests results relate only to the sample tested. Clients should be aware that a critical step in a chemical or microbiological analysis is the collection of the sample. Unless the sample analyzed is truly representative of the bulk of material involved, the test results will be meaningless. If you have questions regarding the proper techniques of collecting samples, please contact us. We cannot be held responsible for sample integrity, however, unless sampling has been performed by a member of our staff. 84 Explanation of Symbols and Abbreviations The following defines common symbols and abbreviations used in reporting technical data: RL Reporting Limit BMQL Below Minimum Quantitation Level N.D. none detected MPN Most Probable Number TNTC Too Numerous To Count CP Units cobalt-chloroplatinate units IU International Units NTU nephelometric turbidity units umhos/cm micromhos/cm ng nanogram(s) C degrees Celsius F degrees Fahrenheit meq milliequivalents lb. pound(s) g gram(s) kg kilogram(s) µg microgram(s) mg milligram(s) ml milliliter(s) L liter(s) m3 cubic meter(s) µl microliter(s) pg/l picogram/liter < less than > greater than ppm parts per million - One ppm is equivalent to one milligram per kilogram () or one gram per million grams. 110 Explanation of Symbols and Abbreviations The following defines common symbols and abbreviations used in reporting technical data: RL Reporting Limit BMQL Below Minimum Quantitation Level N.D. none detected MPN Most Probable Number TNTC Too Numerous To Count CP Units cobalt-chloroplatinate units IU International Units NTU nephelometric turbidity units umhos/cm micromhos/cm ng nanogram(s) C degrees Celsius F degrees Fahrenheit meq milliequivalents lb. pound(s) g gram(s) kg kilogram(s) µg microgram(s) mg milligram(s) ml milliliter(s) L liter(s) m3 cubic meter(s) µl microliter(s) pg/l picogram/liter < less than > greater than ppm parts per million - One ppm is equivalent to one milligram per kilogram () or one gram per million grams. This report shall not be reproduced except in full, without the written approval of the laboratory. Times are local to the area of activity.
