1 OM018 Installation, Operation and Maintenance Instructions for Chemical Dosing Pots The operating and maintenance instructions contained within this package are for standard Chemical Dosing Pots. The CDP range of dosing pots is intended for containing group 2 liquids as defined in the pressure equipment directive. These are non-flammable, non-explosive, relatively unreactive liquids such as heating system water. 3 1.0 Standard Unit Information & Description The standard range of chemical dosing pots is 4 litres to 50 litres. The CDP range of dosing pots is intended for containing group 2 liquids as defined in the pressure equipment directive. These are non-flammable, non-explosive, relatively unreactive liquids such as heating system water. 4 2.0 PED Information The standard range of chemical dosing pots is designed in accordance with the requirements of the Pressure Equipment Directive 97/23/EC. Units classed as SEP in the PED category are not supplied with a CE mark. Units in category I & II are CE marked and appropriate markings and certification is supplied with each unit. It is the responsibility of the user and/or installer to ensure that the unit is installed and operated safely, and in accordance with the instructions supplied within this manual. Guidelines for installation and use are given below. However, the equipment and water treatment in use in any individual system may dictate variations so please consult your water treatment supplier to ensure best results. 5 3.0 Installation Lifting & Handling: Use lifting eyes. Care should be exercised when handling and moving the unit not to damage the shell. Do not lift the vessel using chains directly in contact with the shell. Do not allow operatives to stand on the vessel Siting: Choose a location near a main pipe run or system header. Fasten the chemical dosing pot securely in place using the brackets provided. Remove any protective covers/plugs which may have been fitted to connections to protect them in transit. Check for and remove any foreign material which may have got into the vessel. Pipe the drain away to a safe disposal point. Connect the system connections to the pipe or system header. To ensure that there will be a flow through the chemical dosing pot leave sufficient gap between the connection points to give a difference in dynamic pressure between them (1 metre apart should be enough). This will admit the water treatment gradually to the system water. Alternatively, connect between the flow and return headers, which will admit the water treatment more quickly. Pipe-work connected to the CDP should be supported to prevent loads being transmitted to it. Provide for thermal expansion with bends, expansion joints or flexible connections. For screwed connections use a thread sealant suitable for the particular application. [T:\gms\Word\GMSO&M\Word Format\OM018.doc] Page 5

6 4.0 Commissioning and Operation Do not operate the vessel at pressures or temperatures in excess of those specified on the nameplate of the vessel marking. Severe pressure fluctuations should be avoided. The vessel is not designed to withstand excessive cyclic loads Do not subject the vessel to conditions of vacuum or partial vacuum. Do not subject the vessel to fire or any similar source of heat Caution: The dosing pot contents may be hot. Take care - avoid scalding. On higher temperature systems the contents may be above atmospheric boiling point. Opening valves may cause a release of flash steam. Isolate the chemical dosing pot from the system by closing the two 1/2" system ball valves. Slowly open the drain valve - caution - some water and flash steam may be emitted to the disposal point. Open the dosing valve, and the vent screw. The contents will now drain out. Close the drain valve. Fill the chemical dosing pot to the vent with the required amount of chemicals, diluted as necessary. Close the dosing valve and the vent screw.
