2 Isolation Every Sow barn should have a gilt isolation. No amount of testing can guarantee that incoming replacement animals will not be infected with PRRS. Points to ponder: risk to your herd, risk from other herds and risk to other herds.

25 Positive Pressure Load Outs Take this with a grain of salt, there are too many variables to be certain You must pressurize a defined closed area If you have a 36 x 7 6 shipping door and an air speed of 300 feet per minute you require a 28 fan at full speed (7200 CFM) with a tight hallway Every leak under doors you have to add that onto the calculation

26 Load Outs If you require a higher air speed to overcome some wind pressure a 36 fan will give you 9600 CFM The fan can pull from anywhere, attic, other barn air or outside air If you are going to direct the air then straight at the door is best, otherwise you can defeat the purpose by creating negative pressure zones at the door Simple test to see if you have positive pressure is when the door is open you should actually feel air going out This is not a perfect solution but should help

28 Positive Pressure Load-out Do s Make this a part of your over-all farm biosecurity plan. Make sure you limit the opening for animals coming & going from the barn. Remember airspeed increases greatly when you limit the opening. Have a written instructions at each load out and post them. Train employees and review. Make sure your fan is big enough to create the pressure needed at the load out opening. Seal all aspects of the loadout room. Caulking around windows, doors, corners. Seal under slats so that there is no air leakage other than the load out door.

29 Don ts Try and draw air from the main barn for the positive pressure loadout. Working against the barn fans. We are about to move our fan and draw from the attic. Make it too complicated. KISS - Keep it easily repeatable and people will get it done! Forget to have your light and fan switches on the correct side of the wall! And in easy to reach locations. Forget to talk to your vet before you undertake a positive pressure project. They can save TIME, MONEY and HEARTACHE! Let any more time pass by before you update your On- Farm Biosecurity Plan!
