3 2018 SCTA Points-Per-Round Ranking Levels The SCTA Junior Competition Committee shall evaluate and recommend annually the appropriate levels of the tournaments considered for SCTA junior standings and final rankings. 11 2018 SCTA Endorsement Requirements for USTA Junior National s The SCTA must select (endorse) players to attend USTA National Championship events, USTA Intersectional Team Championships, and USTA Zone Team Championships. Only the top ranked players in their divisions are eligible to play in the USTA National Championships, USTA Intersectional Team Championships, and USTA Zone Team Championships. To be considered for placement on the SCTA endorsement list to possibly compete in one of these tournaments, a player must meet the general endorsement policies and the endorsement requirements. SCTA Endorsement Process Once a player has met the tournament requirements for endorsement, he or she must make sure that he/she have met the General Policy and Procedure for Endorsement, which includes having a copy of their birth certificate on file with the SCTA. The SCTA will post the entire SCTA Endorsement List on the Southern California ranking page. If you do not notice your name on the list and you feel you have met the requirements, please contact the SCTA office immediately. It is not the responsibility of the Sectional Endorser to contact players to remind them about deadline dates for tournament entry applications. General Policy and Procedure for Endorsement 1. Personal behavior and good sportsmanship shall be important factors for endorsement. Players who have exhibited a pattern of poor sportsmanship on or off the court may be refused endorsement. 2. To be eligible for placement on the SCTA standings list, a player must satisfy the following 2 sets of criteria: 1) be age eligible for that division and 2) played to completion in at least 1 SCTA sanctioned tournament in the past 12 months in that age division. This tournament must be a tournament that is held in the Southern California section. Players will receive credit for endorsement in the division in which they participated in, as well as all lower age divisions in which they are eligible for placement on the SCTA standings list. 3. To be eligible for endorsement, a player must have a current USTA membership number on file with the SCTA, as well as a copy of the player s birth certificate. 4. Only those juniors who permanently" reside within the geographical area of the Southern California Tennis Association and who, in addition, must be American Citizens or Resident Aliens in possession of a valid Alien Registration Card, may apply for SCTA endorsement. In order to be classified as a "permanent" resident, a player's parent or legal guardian must legally reside in Southern California. The Sectional Endorsement Committee reserves the right to ask any player, parent or legal guardian to furnish proof of residence, even though the junior may be holding a valid USTA card with SCTA designation. 5. Juniors who represent another country in any ITF junior team championship will NOT be eligible to participate in the SCTA Sectional Championships, USTA Zone Team Championships, USTA National Championship tournaments or any other USTA event requiring SCTA endorsement in the calendar year in which they represented the foreign country, as well as the following calendar year. If a player wishes to challenge this rule, the player may appeal to the SCTA Junior Competition Committee. If the appeal is unsuccessful, the player may follow the steps outlined under USTA Reinstatement of Eligibility listed in the USTA Friend At Court publication. 6. The USTA no longer publishes a National Junior Schedule booklet. Please see for the 2018 USTA National Junior Schedule 7. The SCTA Junior Competition Committee reserves the right to change endorsement requirements at any time.

12 2018 Endorsement Requirements In 2018, the current SCTA standings lists will be used to formulate the order on each endorsement list, there is no tournament participation requirement. Each standings list date is published below. The following tournaments will require SCTA endorsement in order to participate in: USTA National Clay Court Championships (USTA Level 1 ranking, July 15/16-21/22). The SCTA will use the standings list published the week of June 11 th. USTA Zone Team Championships (USTA Level 2 team ranking, July 26-30). The SCTA will use the standings list published the week of June 11 th. (Note: CTC results WILL BE included for Zonals selection) The USTA National Championships (USTA Level 1 ranking, August 3/4/5/6-11/12). The SCTA will use the standings list published the week of July 2 nd. The USTA National Indoor Championships (USTA Level 1 ranking, November 23-26). The SCTA will use the standings list published the week of October 22 nd. USTA National Winter Championships (USTA Level 1 ranking, December 27-January 2). The SCTA will use the standings list published the week of November 19 th. 19 2018 SCTA Level 5, 6, & Level 7 Eligibility Rules If you plan to enter a Level 5, 6, or 7 tournament, it is YOUR responsibility to make sure that you are eligible to play in those levels of tournaments. Players who repeatedly enter levels of tournaments they are ineligible for, are subject to probation or suspension of play. If you have questions about your eligibility, please contact the SCTA office directly. LEVEL 5 TOURNAMENTS (OPEN) This type of tournament is for players who have experience in regular junior tournament competition but lacking National junior tournament experience. These rules do not apply to the 10s & 8s divisions. 1. A player ranked in the top 50 (18s-12s only) on the standings list at the entry deadline is not eligible for Level 5 play in that age division. They may choose to play in a Level 5 tournament in an older age division provided they are not ranked in the top 50 of that division. LEVEL 6 TOURNAMENTS (SATELLITE) This type of tournament is for players who are getting started in regular junior tournament competition. SCTA Level 6 junior tournaments are counted towards junior open rankings. These rules do not apply to the 10s & 8s divisions. Listed below are the eligibility requirements for Level 6 tournaments. 1. A player ranked in the top 100 (18s-12s only) on the standings list at the entry deadline is not eligible for Level 6 play in that age division. They may choose to play in a Level 6 tournament in an older age division provided they are not ranked in the top 100 of that division. 2. All Level 6 tournament winners will be invited to participate in the 2019 Satellite Masters. Please note that in order to have the tournament count as a win, the player must have won three or more matches (not including byes or defaults, unless the default is in the finals) to win the tournament. 3. A Round Robin winner is eligible for the Satellite Masters, as long as the player wins 3 matches (not including defaults) 4. Singles eligibility determines doubles eligibility. 5. Players who have had success in Level 6 play are HIGHLY encouraged to move up to Level 5 tournaments. 6. A junior player who has difficulty competing in Level 5 (open) junior tournaments may petition to the SCTA Junior Satellite Committee to return to Level 6 tournament play. Please Takamori@scta.usta.com. A Level 6 tournament (the satellite level) is a progression level. The SCTA Junior Competition Committee HIGHLY recommends the following: If you have won three (3) Level 6 (satellite) tournaments by winning three (3) or more matches within those tournaments, you should: 1. Play Level 5 tournaments in the same age division. OR 2. Play Level 6 tournaments in the next highest age division.

20 LEVEL 7 TOURNAMENTS (NOVICE) This type of tournament is for players who have not competed in junior tournaments or who have very little tournament experience. Level 7 tournaments do not count toward SCTA ranking. These rules do not apply to the 8 and under division. 1. No player who has won a match (not including defaults or byes) in the main draw of any SCTA Level 1-5 junior tournament (open) will be eligible for Level 7 events. 2. Players who win 2 rounds in a main draw (not including defaults or byes) of a SCTA Level 6 junior tournament (satellite) are not eligible to participate in Level 7 events. 3. Players who win 2 Level 7 tournaments (with draws of 6 or more) must move up to Level 6 s, regardless of the age division(s) they won. 4. Various formats may be used at these events. Most Level 7 tournaments will be round robin with multiple opponents. 5. Eligible players that either win or reach the finals of a Level 7 in 2018 will be invited to the 2019 SCTA Novice Jamboree, to be held in late January.
