1 REQUIRED WEB SITE TEST MUST BE COMPLETED BEFORE ATTENDING CLASS * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * 2015 USTA BASIC TEST INSTRUCTIONS This test has been written from the USTA Tournament Regulations and the Rules of Tennis. As an OPEN BOOK TEST, it is designed for you to answer questions, and to become familiar with Friend at Court. There are 80 questions. All questions have short multiple choice, or True and False answers. Your answers are limited to the choices on the test. Don t find a better answer. You are limited to answers on the test. Be sure to read all questions and answers thoroughly before selecting your answer The online test will be available as soon as the 2015 Friend at Court is finalized. At that time we will send all certified officials a link where they can take the tests. The online tests will have questions will appear in random order You must print and bring to class verification that you have passed the appropriate test. A verification certificate is sent to you upon passing the online test. Scoring: To pass the test you must answer 72 questions correctly. You will have 2 chances to pass the test. Any comments regarding the test should be ed to officiating@usta.com A staff member will then direct your question to the appropriate party.

While hitting a lob volley near the net, Player A s dampening device comes out and hits his opponent in the forehead before the ball lands. Decision? A. Replay the point B. Play continues C. Player A loses the point 23. Player A goes way wide to hit a shot and gets tangled in his opponent s bag strap near the bench, preventing him from getting to his opponent s next shot. Decision? A. 5 24. During a game a light mist causes a player wearing glasses to stop play and request time to change to contact lenses. Is this allowed? 25. When a ball is not in play, a player must honor an opponent s request to move a ball from the court or near the playing area. 68. A player grunts loudly every time when hitting the ball. Allowed reasonable time to replace his racket t allowed to leave the court C. Allowed to leave the court to replace his racket, but must be ready to play in 120 seconds 71. Player A has made several questionable calls. Player B leaves the court to find an official, who cannot immediately come to court. Player B must return to court and continue play until the official arrives. 72. A player who claims a hindrance must stop play: A. At the end of the point B. Immediately C. Anytime during the point 73. In doubles, the Receiver s partner must call the service line, and the Receiver must call the sideline. 74. The time it takes to clear a ball coming on court between 1 st and 2 nd serve is generally not sufficient time to warrant a 1 st serve. 75. A player who declines to warm-up his opponent is subject to the PPS. 76. Before making a call a player may request help from my opponent, asking how did you see it? However, I still can make my own call of in or out. 77. Reversed out calls, made immediately, result in a replay of the point. 78. The doubt created by doubles partners disagreeing on in or out means the ball should be called good.

11 79. Player A hits a rally shot into the net and then says, The ball was out. Decision? A. Player A wins the point B. Replay the point C. Player B wins the point 80. The request for a 3 rd ball must always be honored.
