2 Code of Conduct Club Officials This code applies to all team/club officials (although some items may not apply to all officials). CLUB AND TEAM OFFICIALS ARE EXPECTED TO: Set a positive example for others, particularly young players and supporters. Promote and develop his own team having regard to the interests of the players and to the reputation of the club. Avoid all forms of gamesmanship. Not to use or tolerate inappropriate language. Consistently display high standards of behaviour and appearance. Wherever possible ensure that all team members get a fair chance to play football in either mini soccer or 11 a side matches. Show due respect to players in their own team, supporters and match officials. This also includes players, supporters and match officials of opposing teams. All officials are expected to behave at all times in a manner that will not bring Herons Youth into disrepute in any way. Behaviour that could bring Herons Youth into disrepute in any way will not be tolerated. Version 2 Page 2 of 6

3 Code of Conduct Parents/Guardians and Supporters ALL PARENTS AND GUARDIANS SHOULD MAKE SURE THAT: The child under their care wears the correct clothing for football training and matches, including boots and shin pads. The child brings water with them to drink for re-hydration. The child is delivered to and collected from training and matches by the appropriate person at the correct time. PARENTS/GUARDIANS AND SUPPORTERS SHOULD: Respect the referee s decisions both during and after the match. Show respect to all club and match officials as well as to opposition players and parents. Praise good behaviour quickly to show that adults value it. Help children to understand the rules of football. Be patient. Stand away from the touchline behind a designated line. PARENTS/GUARDIANS AND SUPPORTERS SHOULD NOT: Attempt to coach the children while they are playing. Argue, swear, criticise or become violent during matches. Behave in a way that could bring the Club into disrepute. In particular, parents/guardians and supporters are reminded that the referee and his assistants are the sole judges during a match and they should not argue with, dispute or abuse match officials in any way before, during or after a match. If a parent/guardian or supporter is charged with misconduct and fined by the League or County Association they will be expected to pay the fine personally. Any parent/guardian or supporter who wishes to appeal against a misconduct charge must notify the Club Secretary within 5 days of receiving notification of the charge. 4 Code of Conduct Players Players are the most important people in the sport. Playing for the team and for the team to win is the most fundamental part of the game. But not winning at any cost. Fair Play and Respect for all others in the game is fundamentally important. ALL PLAYERS SHOULD: Show due respect towards Match Officials and never dispute their decisions before, during or after a game. Show due respect towards the team officials and players of the opposition. Win, lose or draw show good sportsmanship and shake hands with the opposing team. Always be on time for training and matches. Always have the appropriate football kit. ALL PLAYERS SHOULD NOT: Make racist, sexist, religious or any other discriminatory comments. Be abusive or to argue with any match official or opposition players. Behave in any way that could bring the club into disrepute. It is the duty of any team official, parent/guardian or spectator to report to the club secretary any player who persistently breaches our Code of Conduct. 5 Code of Conduct Players SPECIFIC PLAYING ISSUES The following apply specifically to incidents occurring as part of a football match where a caution or dismissal is issued. It also applies if a misconduct charge is issued. If a Yellow Card (Caution) or a Red Card (Dismissal) is issued, it is the team manager s duty to report the offence to the club secretary within 3 days of the event. If the team manager is aware that a misconduct charge is to be made, it is his duty to report the offence to the club secretary within 24 hours of the offence taking place. If a player or the club is fined by the League or County Association for a Yellow or Red card or a misconduct charge, the player will be expected to pay the fine personally and shall not be eligible to play for the club until this has been accepted. Any player who wishes to appeal against a Red card or a misconduct charge must notify the Club Secretary within 5 days of receiving notification of the charge. Version 2 Page 5 of 6

6 Code of Conduct Code of Conducts have been introduced to ensure that all people affiliated with the club, be they managers, coaches, players or supporters, can enjoy all the experiences that youth football brings with it. Please read through the Codes thoroughly and complete and return the slip below to your team manager.
