Among those teams in the top 15, Florida is the youngest as UF is in its 23nd season. This is Florida s 15th straight NCAA appearance, which ranks ninth for active streaks of consecutive NCAA Championship berths. North Carolina leads all as the Tar Heels have appeared in all 36 NCAA Championship fields. A league-record nine Southeastern Conference teams received spots in the 2017 NCAA field Florida, Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt. That total leads the nation. After the first round, six SEC teams remain (Arkansas, Alabama and Mississippi out). Three SEC teams are top-four regional seeds (No. 1 South Carolina, No. 2 Texas A&M, No. 3 Florida) The ACC leads with four regional seeds. The SEC and Pac-12 are next with three each. Florida is all-time in NCAA play. The 33 wins ranks No. 12 all-time among the 239 teams to appear in NCAA Division Championship action. What s Happening? Hurricane Irma canceled the Sept. 10 meeting, but after NCAA Opening Round wins, No. 3 region seed Florida and South Florida will play in UF and USF meet Friday, Nov. 17 in the second match of the day at the Donald R. Dizney Stadium. Washington State-Tennessee open Friday s NCAA Second Round action at 2 p.m. This is the first meeting between UF and USF since 2014 (2-0 UF win). Last weekend, the field cut in half. Now Florida is one of 32 programs playing 2017 NCAA Second Round action. The second and third rounds are this weekend (Nov. 17 and 19) at eight campus sites. NCAA Quarterfinal action will be Nov. 24 or 25 on four campus sites with the Women s College Cup set for Dec. 1 & 3 at the Orlando City Stadium in Orlando, Fla. This is the fourth Sunshine State appearance for the NCAA Women s College Cup (Orlando 1982, 1983; Boca Raton 2014). Florida is 7-4 against teams in the 2017 tournament field. The Gators registered wins versus No. 1 regional seed Stanford (Aug. 25), Mississippi (Sept. 14), Alabama (Sept. 24), at Vanderbilt (Oct. 8), Tennessee (Oct. 22), versus Auburn at SEC Tournament (Oct. 31) and South Alabama (Nov. 10). Losses came at No. 2 regional seed Texas A&M (Sept. 21 and Nov. 2 at SEC Tournament), versus Florida State (Oct. 12) and at Auburn (Oct. 15). Florida opened NCAA play with a 3-1 win over South Alabama last Friday at the Dizney Stadium. Gator scoring started in the 34 th minute when Sarah Troccoli s pass found Gabby Seiler making a left-side run. Seiler took the ball deep and then sent the ball across the face of the goal where Madison Alexander placed it in from eight yards. Late in the half, Melanie Monteagudo took on a pair of defenders, moving left and then heading across the top edge of the box before scoring on a rightfooted 19-yard shot that curled and clipped the upper far post to fall in at 43:51. It was her first goal of the season. Monteagudo again used some elusive moves to create space before finding Troccoli high in the box. Troccoli s one-timer scored at the far post in the 55th minute. The Jaguars Audrey Duren scored her first goal of the season in the 85th minute. The win advances Florida from its opening NCAA match for the 17th time in the program's 21 appearances. Five Gators appear on the 2017 All-SEC teams, announced Oct. 29 by the league office. Three appear on the first team Parker Roberts, Deanne Rose and Gabby Seiler. Two Gator defenders appear on the second team Kristen Cardano and Rachelle Smith. Seiler is a three-time All-SEC first team selection (2014 at Georgia, 2016 with UF) and Cardano was on the 2016 All-SEC second team. Cardano missed the final four matches of the season due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament suffered Oct. 12 versus Florida State. Rose is the fourth SEC Freshman of the Year for the Gators and first since Savannah Jordan in The only freshman on the All-SEC first team, she is also part of the SEC All-Freshman Team. Rose missed the Southeastern Conference Tournament and Nov. 10 NCAA First Round play to join the Canada National Team for two friendly matches versus the U.S. (Nov. 9 and 12). She started both matches - Nov. 9 match (1-1 tie) and Nov. 12 (3-1 USA win). The Bulls moved to the NCAA Championship by claiming their first American Athletic Conference Tournament title with a penalty kick decision over top-seeded Central Florida on Nov. 5. USF s eighth shutout of 2017 and third consecutive moved the Bulls to NCAA Second Round action (3-0 win vs Florida Gulf Coast). This is USF s fourth NCAA appearance, with all coming since 2010 Sophomore Evelyne Viens leads USF in goals (12), assists (9) and points (33). She turned in the first goal in Saturday s win over FGCU. Senior Kat Elliott has appeared in 18 matches, registering five shutouts and owns a goals-against-average of Florida and South Florida have played one common opponent in 2017 Alabama (UF 3-0 win, USF 2-1 OT win). This is the seventh UF opponent ranked by the United Soccer Coaches, as the Bulls are No. 25 on the final regular season poll.

15 No. 7 Florida 1 Florida Atlantic 0 OT Aug. 18, 2017 FAU Stadium Boca Raton, Fla. BOCA RATON, Fla. Ninety minutes was not enough for Florida soccer's season opening match. Extra minutes were needed for the Gator soccer season opener as Florida took a 1-0 overtime win at Florida Atlantic Friday evening at the FAU Stadium. Florida celebrates Gabby Seiler's successful penalty kick which gave Florida a 1-0 OT win at Florida Atlantic to open the 2017 season.the Gators outshot the Owls 14-2, but it wasn't until midway through the first overtime Florida got one past FAU goalkeeper Jennifer Ocampo. Freshman Deanne Rose was fouled in the box, awarding the Gators a penalty kick. Redshirt senior Gabby Seiler, who was just named Gator team captain at the pre-match meal, stepped up to take the kick. That shot provided Florida with the golden goal winner. Worth Noting Gabby Seiler's goal was her second as a Gator and the 12 th of her collegiate career. She played for Georgia as a freshman and sophomore and sat out the 2015 season due to Southeastern Conference transfer rules. This was Florida's second appearance in Boca Raton in the six all-time meetings between the two programs. Florida also took an overtime win in that match, as future All-American and then freshman Tahnai Annis scored her first collegiate goal to give UF a 2-1 OT win on Aug. 24, Gator goalkeeper Susi Espinoza made her first collegiate appearance Friday. She did not appear in a match as a freshman in Kaylan Marckese, who played every minute of the 2016 season, missed Friday's opener due to a hand injury. In addition to Espinoza, four others made their first start for the Gators Friday including true freshmen Madison Alexander and Deanne Rose. At least one Gator freshman has started 18 of the program's 23 season openers. Also among the starting Gators are two other newcomers. Parker Roberts transferred after playing at Kansas as a freshman in 2015, but sat out the 2016 collegiate season due to her U.S. Under-20 National Team commitment for the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. Luís Araujo played at ASA Junior College in Brooklyn, N.Y., in 2014 and 2015 and sat out the 2016 collegiate season as she was captain of Brazil's U-20 World Cup team. Florida is now all-time in season opening matches. This is the fifth consecutive season-opening win for UF. Seiler's goal is the second latest game-winner for the Gators in a season opener in the program's 23 seasons. Then freshman Taylor Travis hit the golden goal at 106:12 versus Miami to open the 2010 season with a 2-1 2OT home win. What the Gators Said: On scoring the winning penalty kick: "I just wanted to do it for my team. I thought we worked really hard the whole game. We just couldn't get it in the back of the net. I decided to take a deep breath and just finish it for all our hard work." senior defender Gabby Seiler On team's performance in the season opener: "I thought we did some really great stuff. We created a lot of opportunities and credit to FAU for keeping them out of the back of the net. We had some really good 1v1, some good situations right in front of the net I thought they did a good job defensively. We've got to clean up a few things, but it is the first game of the season and we certainly have a lot of room to grow." Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh On getting the season started: "For the freshmen and for everyone in general, it is very nerve-wracking. But once you get that out of the way, you can improve and go up from there." senior defender Gabby Seiler Florida: 1-0-0, 0-0 SEC Florida Atlantics: 0-1-0, 0-0 Conference USA Florida (1-0-0, SEC 0-0-0) at Florida Atlantic (0-1-0, C-USA 0-0-0) Stadium: FAU Stadium Weather: 86 degrees, winds ESE at 8 mph, 72% humidity Goals by Period 1 2 OT Total Florida Florida Atlantics :41 UF Gabby Seiler Penalty Kick Shots: Florida 14, FAU 2 Saves: Florida 1 (Susi Espinoza 0, Team 1), FAU (Jennifer Ocampo, 9) Troy 0 No. 7 Florida 5 Aug. 20, 2017 James G. Pressly Stadium Gainesville, Fla. GAINESVILLE, Fla. Gator soccer got Florida athletics home action off to a positive start Sunday with a 5-0 win over Troy at the James G. Pressly Stadium. Five different Gators scored Sunday s goals. Florida is now all-time in home openers. Goal one for the Gators came early in the opening half. The play started deep the Florida half when Kristen Cardano s pass found Sammie Betters open just beyond the midway point. Betters pass to just above the box bounced forward for freshman Deanne Rose. She caught up to the ball to send a chip past the oncoming goalkeeper in the 11 th minute. Senior Gabby Seiler scored her second goal of the weekend off a corner kick at 27:48. The ball sent by Briana Solis was headed across the goal by Tess Sapone where Seiler volleyed it in from 10 yards. It was the perfect birthday present for junior Brittney Bennett. The ball popped out to the top of the box off a Troy clearance attempt. Bennett s hard right-footed shot scored at the top corner at 35:05. Florida scored quickly to start the second half off another Solis corner kick. Parker Roberts shouldered the ball down to bounce across the line at 46:49. A penalty kick in the 86 th minute by sophomore Tess Sapone was successful, giving Florida the final score. Worth Noting Four different players scored their first Gator goal Sunday. Rose (10:29), Bennett (35:05), Roberts (46:49) and Sapone (85:24). Sunday s goal was the fourth of Roberts collegiate career and first as a Gator. Roberts scored three goals as a freshman at Kansas in 2015 before transferring to Florida in the summer of She sat out the 2016 collegiate season due to her commitment to the U.S. Under-20 National Team for the FIFA U-20 World Cup (played November-December 2016 in Papua New Guinea). Bennett s goal came on her 20 th birthday. Gabby Seiler s goal was her third as a Gator and her second of the weekend. Her penalty kick in the 96 th minute Friday gave Florida a 1-0 season-opening win at Florida Atlantic. It was the 13 th goal of her collegiate career. She played for Georgia as a freshman and sophomore and sat out the 2015 season due to Southeastern Conference transfer rules. Solis doubled her career total Sunday with her pair of corner kick assists. Rose was impressive in her opening weekend. She was the player fouled to give Florida the penalty kick, which Seiler converted for a 1-0 overtime win Friday at Florida Atlantic. Sunday, she got the Gator scoring started early in the opening half. She and Seiler led the Gators with four shots each Sunday. Pair of collegiate firsts for Sapone Sunday first goal and first assist. Florida used 23 players in Sunday s match. This is the sixth time in the program s 23-year history it opened home play with five or more goals. Florida also opened 2016 home action with a five-goal effort. Florida: 2-0-0, 0-0 SEC Troy: 0-2-0, 0-0 Sun Belt What the Gators Said: On today s match: We knew it was going to be a little bit of a challenge today because of the weather, the turnaround, the travel and the back-to-back games. I thought our team came out pretty strong from the beginning. I think the two telling stats were one shot for them. We keep a stat on throw ins and we won that 23-1, which is purely focus and effort by them [Gators]. They kept the focus and effort for 90 minutes, which was really impressive. Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh Gabby Seiler started in the back and moved to attacking midfield. How does her versatility help the team? She s one of those players who is capable of playing pretty much everywhere. It just gives our team more versatility when we have someone like that. Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh Five goals by five players - Florida seems to have several scoring options, forcing opponents to focus on more than a couple of players. There were some left out there today. There are some dynamic parts of our attack that we still can get much better at and be more prolific, but this weekend was a good start. Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh On team s preparations for today s afternoon match: Before the game, we talked about the heat and not letting it become a factor in the game. We play in Gainesville every day so it is something we are used to. So that was an advantage for us, especially mentally. It helped us overall to give our best effort. senior defender Gabby Seiler Troy (0-2-0, 0-0 Sun Belt) at Florida (2-0-0, SEC 0-0-0) Stadium: James G. 16 No. T-1 Stanford 2 No. 8 Florida 3 Aug. 25, 2017 Donald R. Dizney Stadium Gainesville, Fla. GAINESVILLE, Fla. A Gator soccer 3-2 win over No. 1 Stanford at the Donald R. Dizney Stadium started the Florida Athletics Big Friday off right. Florida soccer was the first of two Gator programs to face the nation s topranked team tonight in Gainesville, as volleyball meets No. 1 Texas in the Exactech Arena at the Stephen C. O Connell Center. What Led to the Win: For the first 82 minutes, the Gators were either trailing or tied with the top-ranked Stanford soccer team. That changed in the 82 nd minute. Laís Araujo followed the ball sent down the center of the box by Melanie Monteagudo. She held off her defender as the two challenged for possession. Araujo took a touch right to make a bit of space and then banged in a right-footed six-yard shot off the post and into the goal. The Gators led 3-2 with eight minutes left. The Cardinal pushed play into the Florida half for much of those final eight minutes Goalkeeper Susi Espinoza made the stop on Stanford s Catarina Macario s shot in the 90 th minute for the final play of the match. And that registered Florida s first win in six tries versus the traditional soccer power. Florida twice tied the match. Stanford took the lead in the 25 th minute when Macario volleyed in the deflection of Tierna Davidson s shot. Junior Samantha Chung sent Florida to halftime with a 1-all tie. Freshman Madison Alexander s pass from the middle of the box found Chung alone just above the center of the box. Her right-footed shot scored at the far post. Stanford regained the lead in the 59 th minute when Beattie Goad took the endline pass from Jaye Boissiere and scored at the near post from six yards. Florida again tied the match when Gabby Seiler headed in Mayra Pelayo s cross. Her three-yard score at the far post tied the match at 78:32. Worth Noting Araujo s goal was her first of her Gator career. The junior transfer is one of three on Florida s 2017 team who played at the 2016 FIFA Under-20 World Cup, as Araujo was captain of the Brazil side. Chung is making a successful return from the injury that ended her 2016 season as she scored the second goal of her Gator career and first of Chung suffered an anterior cruciate ligament tear in 2016 post-season action. Monteagudo made her first appearance of 2017 today. Florida s top returning scorer from 2016, Monteagudo sat out the season opening weekend of action with a calf injury. She played 29 minutes today and registered the assist on Araujo s game-winning goal. Seiler s scored in each of Florida s three matches this season to give her four goals in her Gator career. She scored 10 goals while playing with Georgia in 2013 and 2014 (redshirting 2015 season due to Southeastern Conference transfer rules). Espinoza turned in a career-high five saves in goal tonight. She has played the entirety of each of Florida s three matches this season the first collegiate action of her Gator career. Florida is now all-time when facing the nation s No. 1 team in Gainesville. The other win was also by a 3-2 score when UF defeated Florida State Aug. 30, This was Florida s first win versus Stanford in the six-match series. Of the five previous meetings, four went to overtime. The Cardinal now lead the all-time series Florida: 3-0-0, 0-0 SEC Stanford: 2-1-0, 0-0 Pac-12 What the Gators Said: On today s match: We said two things to the team afterwards. One, this is why we have Gator Day. Gator Day for us is once a week and it s a really hard practice. No one really looks forward to it, but our team has really been getting after it in those practices. And the end of this game felt like a Gator Day. I think that really help carry them through. The second thing we said was one game doesn t define us. The things that we did in that game our toughness, our grittiness and all that that defines us. But the result itself doesn t define us. Really happy with our ability to be resilient and come back twice. Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh Stanford (2-1-0, 0-0 Pac-12) at Florida (3-0-0, SEC 0-0-0) Stadium: Donald R. The University of Florida soccer team moves to 4-0 for the first time since 2010 after its 2-1 win over Syracuse on a damp Sunday evening at the Donald R. Dizney Stadium. How the Goals Were Scored: Florida scored its earliest goal of the season in the eighth minute. Syracuse s Shannon Aviza was whistled for a handball on a Melanie Monteagudo shot deep in the SU box. Gabby Seiler successfully converted the penalty kick to give Florida the early lead. Syracuse tied the match in the 24 th minute when Alana O Neill took the ball end line. Her pass to the top of the six-yard box was one-touched in by Sydney Brackett. Briana Solis registered her third assist of the season in the 57 th minute. She received the ball at the top corner of the box from Sarah Troccoli and then took a couple of touches while she explored her options. Solis centering pass was one-touched off Parker Roberts right foot just inside the far post to give Florida the game winner. Worth Noting Florida: 4-0-0, 0-0 SEC Syracuse: 2-1-1, 0-0 ACC Seiler brings the number of times a Gator has scored in a goal in four or more consecutive matches to 31. She s scored in each of Florida s four matches this season. A Gator has scored in four or more consecutive matches now nine times since 2010 (Savannah Jordan six consecutive matches in 2013, five in both 2014 and 2015 four in 2015; McKenzie Barney five in 2010; Annie Speese four in 2014; Erika Tymrak four in 2011 and 2012). Roberts has scored both her Gator goals on consecutive Sundays. She transferred to Florida for the 2016 season after playing at Kansas as a freshman in Roberts sat out the 2016 Gator campaign as she was a member of the U.S. Under-20 Team for the 2016 FIFA U-20 World Cup. Florida opens the season with a 4-0 record for the first time since 2010 and for the sixth time in the program s 23-year history. What the Gators Said: Take us through your goal and what you felt when you put the Gators ahead. I saw Bri [Briana Solis] running down the sideline and I noticed a big gap in the middle. I knew I had to get there. Whether I was going to get the ball or not, I knew there was an opportunity. I was just so relieved because I knew we were going to win this game. After having so many opportunities in the first half that I should have put in the back of the net, it was really relieving to put one in. redshirt sophomore Parker Roberts What led to the assist on Parker s goal? I was just trying to get forward more to put more pressure on the other team s defense. I took a player on and then I could hear Parker [Roberts] yelling my name. So I just played it to her and she finished it. junior Briana Solis Gators possessed the ball until late in the second half when Syracuse got some opportunities. What adjustments were made at halftime? We talked about keeping the ball, playing two-touch and trying to connect passes. A lot of times our offense is our best defense and I think that was the case early in the second half. Late in the second half when they got some opportunities, it was more us standing off them a little too much being too passive. That s not our game plan. It will be really good thing for us to see that on film. Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh Syracuse (2-1-1, 0-0 ACC) at Florida (4-0-0, SEC 0-0-0) Stadium: Donald R. AMES, Iowa For the second consecutive afternoon, late theatrics gave Gator athletics a win. Yesterday in The Swamp, it was Feleipe Franks time-expiring pass to Tyrie Cleveland that gave Florida football the win over Tennessee. Today it was Florida fútbol s turn for a sudden victory. Freshman Deanne Rose s golden goal off the perfect pass from Parker Roberts in the 96 th minute gave Florida a 2-1 overtime win over Iowa State Sunday afternoon at the Cyclone Sports Complex. How the Goals Was Scored: A set play put the Cyclones up 1-0 in the opening half. The corner kick from Merin Mundt bounced in the middle of the box. Klasey Medelberg hit the volley to score her first goal of the season in the 14th minute. Another goal off a corner kick knotted the score in the 56th minute. Rose was able to tuck in the ball through the near post scrum off the low kick from Gabby Seiler. Rose s golden goal in the 96 th minute started with the Gators driving through the Cyclone half. Roberts received the ball above the box and took a few touches before sending a diagonal through ball ahead. Rose caught up and one-touched the ball in from seven yards to the far post. It was just one of those grind-it-out Sunday games. Different surface, tough turnaround - I think our team handled it better than on the Seattle trip so from that point of view, I think we grew. Once we went into overtime, we talked about situational play. We practice situational play every single week. So we were kind of laughing about it Hey, we get situational practice against someone besides ourselves. They executed that to perfection, so that was kind of nice to see. The toughest part of that game was getting the ball to the ground. Then we didn t do a good enough job of keeping it once it got on the ground. You have to give credit to A&M for being really disruptive. They kept playing a lot of long balls and the game was really physical. I m sure that is something we will see again so it will be a good learning experience. Three second-half goals with freshman Deanne Rose starting and ending the scoring gave the University of Florida soccer team a 3-0 win over Alabama Sunday at the James G. Pressly Stadium. How the Goals Were Scored: After a scoreless opening half, the Gators struck early in the second half. Less than a minute and a half later, Mayra Pelayo scored put UF up 2-0. Pelayo took the ball endline and sent the ball toward goal. It hit a Tide defender and the momentum of the deflection carried it into the goal at 50:50. A long give-and-go play gave Rose her second goal of the evening. Florida won the ball at midfield and it was sent to Rose just outside the center circle. She touched the ball back to Laís Araujo, who was just moving across the midway line. Araujo recognized Rose s opportunity and immediately sent a ball into space. Rose broke free to catch up with the ball, sending a right-footed shot in from 12 yards. Worth Noting Rose s first goal was her fourth consecutive goal for Florida in an eight-day span. She scored twice in Florida s 2-1 win at Iowa State on Sept. 12, scored the Gators goal in a 2-1 loss at Texas A&M on Sept. 21 and then today s opening goal. Then as soon as we put them under pressure, all of a sudden, you know, they didn t look as good, and I think a big part of that was our pressuring. We re capable of doing that to anyone, and I think we just forgot, and so once we started putting the pressure on, all of a sudden that generated some of our offense. Florida Head Soccer Coach Becky Burleigh How critical was it for the Gators to get two goals early in the second half? Super critical [for Gators to score two early second half goals]. We needed to come back stronger. We had to get a little wake-up call, which made our team come together as one. We know that we are the type of team that can [respond] we had to show our coaches that we can do that. senior defender Kristen Cardano On her feelings the last couple games I ve been feeling good. I think my teammates have done such a good job of encouraging me, and the coaches. So I think it s finally coming through, the execution. It s nice to be scoring. freshman forward Deanne Rose On the confidence of scoring I have a sigh of relief every time I score just because I know it can happen, but it s the execution and finally it s starting to come through. freshman forward Deanne Rose On early second half momentum: It s great that we got the momentum, and we were in their half ever since those two goals. It was great. - junior midfielder Mayra Pelayo On having a week off of games It is going to be kind of good because lately we haven t been practicing because we will have a practice then have a day off then go straight to games. 20 No. 10 Florida 3 Georgia 0 Oct. 1, 2017 Turner Soccer Complex Athens, Ga. ATHENS, Ga. The first goals of the season for three Gators gave the University of Florida soccer team a 3-0 win at Georgia Sunday evening in front of a Turner Soccer Complex crowd of 2,109. How the Goals Were Scored: The match was scoreless after the opening half, with the Bulldogs owning a 5-4 advantage in shots. That turned in the second half, as Florida put up a 14-3 shots advantage in the final 45 minutes. Three Gators turned in their first goals of the season, with the final two goals registering as collegiate firsts. Junior Briana Solis took advantage of her opportunity to take the free kick, scoring on a 22-yard shot to put the Gators on the scoreboard in the 54 th minute. Another set play in the 61 st minute ended with senior Cassie Owens scoring her first Gator goal. Solis corner kick was headed at the near post by Gabby Seiler. The deflection of that shot landed at the middle of the goal, where Owens placed it in from four yards. Florida s scoring closed in the 87 th minute when a UGA defender tried to play the ball back to UGA goalkeeper Louise Hogrell. Gator freshman Madison Alexander and Hogrell were in a race to get to the ball high in the box. The ball deflected off Alexander and then hit the near post. The ball traveled across the face of the goal. Alexander caught up and placed the ball in at the far post for her first Gator goal. Worth Noting Florida: 9-2-0, 3-1 SEC Georgia: 4-7-1, 0-4 SEC Goals from three different players gives Florida 11 who have scored at least one goal this season. With her assist on Owen s goal, Seiler now shares Florida s points lead (13) with freshman Deanne Rose. Alexander s goal at 86:36 is the latest for the Gators in regulation play. Florida has two overtime goals in Florida turned in its sixth shutout of It was the 17 th solo shutout of junior goalkeeper Kaylan Marckese s career. This was the 32 nd meeting between the two league rivals (the most of any UF rival) and UF leads the all-time series What the Gators Said: On the differences in halves: I think the biggest adjustment we made in the second half is that we just did a better job of offering offensively for one another. Once we did that, combined with I think tiring them out in the first half, that was a lot for Georgia to handle. That s when we got our breakthrough. Florida Head Soccer Coach Becky Burleigh On three Gators scoring their first goals of 2017 (or of career): It was really exciting to see three different people score who haven t scored before. That was really cool. Florida Head Soccer Coach Becky Burleigh What happened on your goal? It was a free kick. I usually don t take them so I was excited to get the opportunity. Gabby [Seiler] and Mayra [Pelayo] told me to just hit it in there. There was some debate about whether to go near post or far post. I just kind of hit it, trying to go toward near post. It deflected off the other team and went in. junior midfielder Briana Solis What happened on your goal? How did it feel to score your first Gator goal? We had a corner and Gabby Seiler had a really good header. It was on the line so it was a tap-in. Just to be on the field playing for this team is super exciting. So to get a goal for this team is really, really exciting for me. - senior Cassie Owens You finished off today s scoring with your first Gator goal. Mel [Monteagudo] was pressing down the line and that caused the girl to play it back to the goalie. I just pressed the goalie hard and it deflected off me but it hit the post. I just kept running and it was a wide open net. So exciting to get my first goal. All week we ve been working on pressing so it is nice for it to pay off. freshman Madison Alexander How did the Gators do today? I think in the second half we did great. We were offering for each other and connecting the ball. freshman Madison Alexander. Florida wore pink Thursday to show their support in the fight against breast cancer. This was Florida's ninth "Kicking for the Cure" match (first in 2009). How the Goals Were Scored: Florida scored twice in a span of less than 30 seconds in the opening half. The first started when Gabby Seiler drove endline. Her short pass found Parker Roberts moving into the sixyard box. Roberts one-touched the ball in for her third goal of the season at 12:10. It was her first since scoring the game-winner versus Syracuse on Aug. 27. Florida won the ball quickly when play started after the goal. Seiler brought the ball down the middle and sent it ahead to Deanne Rose, located six yards above the box. Rose s square ball found Mayra Pelayo making a run down the right side. Pelayo took a couple of touches to bring the ball just outside the width of the box. Her right-footed curler scored at 12:36. The Tigers narrowed the lead to one goal in the 57th minute when Madison Lewis scored on a 25-yard free kick. For the match, Florida led 18-6 in shots, with half of UF s shots being on goal. Missouri s Kristen Rivers turned in a season-high seven saves Thursday. Worth Noting Florida s first two goals by Roberts and Pelayo came in a span of 26 seconds. That is the second time in the last three matches Florida has scored consecutive goals in the span of two minutes. In the Sept. 24 win versus Alabama, Rose and Pelayo scored in a span of 1:19. More on the 26-second span. It ties for the eighth shortest time between goals in UF s 23-year history. The last time there was a shorter span came in 2008, when 25 seconds elapsed between Florida s fourth (Megan Kerns) and fifth (Lindsay Thompson) goals in a 6-1 win at Alabama. It was the 10 th time Florida has registered consecutive goals in a 30-second span. Seiler turned in her first double assist match of her Gator career. She now leads the Gators in points (14) and shares the assists lead (5) with Briana Solis. A single goal or tie has decided five of the seven meetings between these two teams since Missouri joined the Southeastern Conference for the 2012 season. 21 No. 9 Florida 3 Vanderbilt 0 Oct. 8, 2017 Vanderbilt Soccer Complex Athens, Ga. NASHVILLE, Tenn. Florida soccer earned a 3-0 win over Vanderbilt on a rainy Sunday afternoon at the Vanderbilt Soccer Complex. It was Vanderbilt s first loss of the Southeastern Conference season. Sunday s match featured two teams among the SEC leaders. With the win, Florida moves to a tie for second in the league standings with 15 points off its 5-1 SEC record while Vanderbilt drops to fourth with 13 points with a record. How the Goals Were Scored: Florida s first goal came when Mayra Pelayo and Deanne Rose connected in the eighth minute. Pelayo s cross to the far side of the box was just over a Vanderbilt defender s head. Rose took a touch to control and then put the ball in the far post netting. The goal was Florida s fourth in the opening 10 minutes of play this season. Rose put in her second goal in the 60 th minute. She brought the ball down the right side of Vanderbilt s box. The VU keeper came off her line and Rose placed it to the far corner from 14 yards. Rose also played a part in Florida s third goal. She drew a penalty kick in the 77 th minute which Gabby Seiler successfully converted for the Gators second goal of the half. UF s Kaylan Marckese made one save Sunday, but it was a key stop to preserve the shutout. Midway through the opening half, Marckese made a point-blank stop on Stephanie Amack s eight-yard header off a Commodore corner kick. For the match, Florida led 15-4 in shots. Florida earned its seventh shutout of the season Sunday. Worth Noting Florida: , 5-1 SEC Vanderbilt: 9-4-1, SEC Rose s two goals Sunday extends her UF season lead to eight and she now leads UF in points (20). Sunday was Rose s third double-goal effort of the last six matches. Seiler scored her sixth goal of the season and the seventh of her two seasons with the Gators. Marckese turned in her fourth solo shutout of 2017 and the 18 th of her career. This was the first meeting between the two teams since the 2015 season. What Becky Burleigh Said: On today s win: I think it was a good opportunity for us to show some toughness considering the conditions. I think once we got it to the ground and kept it there, that was really challenging for Vanderbilt. We did a really job of doing that to start the game and in the second half as well. - - Florida Head Soccer Coach Becky Burleigh On Deanne Rose s performance today: Deanne was a lot for Vanderbilt to handle. She created the penalty, scored two goals and had a couple more opportunities. Hurricane Irma forced the rescheduling of this match from Sept. 8 to Oct. 12. This was the first shutout since 2013 and eighth since 2000 (four for each team) in the series between the two nationally ranked programs. How the Goals Were Scored: Florida State s first goal came off a free kick from Deyna Castellanos. The official awarded the free kick after he ruled the ball UF goalkeeper Kaylan Marckese picked up in the box came off the foot of a Gator defender, not the Seminole she was marking. Castellanos put in her 11 th goal of the season in the near post upper corner at 1:06. It was the earliest goal conceded by the Gators this season. The Seminoles took a 2-0 halftime lead in the 24 th minute when came when Gloria Villalobos s slanted pass found Dallas Dorosy perfectly in stride. Dorosy took a touch and then scored from 15 yards for her fifth goal of the season. The Gators had some good looks at the goal, including a shot that hit the post by Deanne Rose in the seventh minute. Florida kept pressing until the end as Laís Araujo s hard shot from 17 yards with less than three minutes remaining deflected back into play, but the Gators couldn t get another shot off. For the match, Florida led 10-8 in shots, but the Seminoles edged the Gators 5-4 in shots on goal. Florida State earned its sixth shutout of the season Thursday. What the Gators Said: On how FSU took UF out of their element in the beginning of the game: I think that was self-induced. Unfortunately, it was just a little bit of a communication issue and you cannot give [Deyna] Castellanos a free kick from the 18. She is deadly with those. We know that. As a matter of fact, we talked about it in our scouting report. But that for me is like OK we gave up the goal but next play. I think for us to face a 2-0 deficit, it was a great learning experience for us because it required us to make some changes at halftime in terms of the system that we played. I thought our team responded really well and really got after it. - Florida Head Soccer Coach Becky Burleigh On amount of opportunities: I thought we played with a lot of urgency and intensity. Unlucky to not get at least one back and probably should have had two in the first half. So again, sometimes there s opportunities and we finish them and sometimes it doesn t happen. But I really liked our response in the second half. - - Florida Head Soccer Coach Becky Burleigh On Gators effort today: We never gave up. It was just a great effort from everyone. We were never really on our toes the entire time. We just gave to our all, and I m very proud of us for that. junior midfielder Mayra Pelayo On team s mindset after trailing at halftime: Going into the second half, we went into it like it was a 0-0 at this point. We can t really play with anything hanging over our heads. So that s how we went about it in the second half, and I think it showed. We had high energy, high intensity. How the Goals Were Scored: Both of Florida s goals came from its two players from the state of Michigan. Junior Sarah Troccoli sent Florida into halftime with the lead after scoring in the 45th minute. With the first half winding down, Sarah Troccoli looked up and saw and opportunity. Her right-footed 20-yard shot curled just enough to hit the crossbar and kick in. It was Troccoli s first goal of the season. Freshman Madison Alexander hit her second goal of the season to finish the scoring for the match. She received the ball from Gabby Seiler and scored at the far post from 17 yards in the 52 nd minute. Florida: , 6-2 SEC Kentucky: 7-11, 2-6 SEC What the Gators Said: On today s match: It was a little bit of an odd day. A five o clock start, a neutral site, but again, I think we handled it pretty well. I think we had some really big game changers that went into the game that upped the urgency. We put a challenge to the team to score a goal in the first 15 minutes in the second half. So it was kind of nice to see that two players that came off the bench could make a big difference. Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh On Sarah Troccoli s first goal of 2017: Oh, I didn t realize that was her first goal. Well, it came at a good time because it was nice to go into the locker room with a lead instead of 0-0. Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh On her goal: It was the last minute of the half, and I was running down the sideline when [Julia] Lester had it. I heard her telling me to go so she could play it. Then she played it, and I cut it back and then just chipped it. junior midfielder Sarah Troccoli On Florida s play Thursday: It was a little slow in the beginning, but then we talked about pressing higher up at halftime so we kind of picked it up. junior midfielder Sarah Troccoli On her goal: Gabby [Seiler] just played me the ball. I was on the top of the 18, and then I just turned, took a touch, and then I had little bit of a gap to shoot then I just put it in the far post. freshman forward Madison Alexander On a lot of players seeing time: I think it was a good team effort, and obviously that s favorable for us Sunday as well because we ve got a quick turnaround. 23 No. 20 Florida 2 No. 11 Tennessee 1 Oct. 22, 2017 Regal Soccer Stadium Knoxville, Tenn. KNOXVILLE, Fla. The number two prevailed in Florida's win Sunday at then No. 11 Tennessee. In the second half, two Gator juniors each hit their second goal of the season to give UF the 2-1 victory. The match was played in front of 2,411, the second-highest attended match ever at UT's Regal Soccer Stadium. How the Goals Were Scored: After a scoreless opening half, junior Sarah Troccoli opened the second half scoring in the 55 th minute. Deanne Rose received ball at the top corner of the box and took a touch to explore her options. Her short pass found Troccoli in the middle of the box where she calmly one-touched it in from the penalty spot. Tennessee tied the match in the 63 rd when Anna Bialczak headed in the long free kick from Katie Cousins. The game-winning goal started in the 80 th minute when Briana Solis won the ball just inside the Vol half. She sent the ball forward to Madison Alexander standing about 10 yards above the box. Solis sprinted toward goal and Alexander sent the ball into the box. Solis caught up and then placed it in off a left-footed strike to the far post from 15 yards. A bicycle kick save by Parker Roberts in the 36 th minute kept the match scoreless in the opening half. UF goalkeeper Kaylan Marckese collided with UT s Danielle Marcano just as Marcano took a shot in the box. As both players tumbled to the ground, the ball continued an arched path toward goal. Roberts followed the path of the ball and then perfectly executed a bicycle kick to keep the ball out of the Gator goal. Worth Noting: Both Gator goals were the second of the season for each player. Troccoli scored her first Thursday in Florida s 2-0 win over Kentucky. Solis has scored both of her goals on the road, as her free kick in the 3-0 win at Georgia was also the game winner. With the win, Florida is now all-time in matches played in Knoxville. After no wins in a six-match stretch of road meetings with Tennessee that began in 2001, Florida has taken wins in its last three visits to Regal Stadium (2013/3-0, 2015/2-1, 2017/2-1). Florida leads the alltime series This is the ninth time in the all-time series history that both teams rank in the top-25 for a meeting. The last came in 2011 when then No. 12 Tennessee took a 4-2 win over then No. 6 Florida. For the first time in Florida s 23-year history, the Gators will face two different top-12 teams in Southeastern Conference regular-season action and these meetings come in a five-day span. Florida defeated No. 11 Tennessee today and faces No. 3 South Carolina at home on Thursday. With one Southeastern Conference matches remaining for each team, Florida is now third in the league standings with 21 points off its 7-2 SEC record. Florida wore pink Sunday to show their support for the fight against breast cancer. Florida: , 7-2 SEC Tennessee: , SEC What the Gators Said: On today s match: We felt if we could break their initial line of pressure, we could get in behind them. It was happening in the first half, but we made a more concerted effort in the second half. It paid off as we had multiple opportunities. I thought our possession was the answer. We did a great job of keeping the ball. The combination play was very difficult for them to deal with. I thought their goalkeeper made some great saves, Kaylan [Marckese] made a couple of big saves too. It was a classic late-in-the-season SEC meeting between two good teams. Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh On Parker Roberts bicycle kick save: It was funny because we talk about bikes [bicycle kicks] in practice a lot. So for her to do it today to save a goal was pretty amazing. Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh Rankings: Florida ranks No. 20 on the United Soccer Coaches poll and Tennessee is No. 11. Dizney Stadium Gainesville, Fla. GAINESVILLE, Fla. A goal in the final 10 minutes gave South Carolina the win over Florida Thursday evening at the Donald R. Dizney Stadium. The victory also gave the Gamecocks their second consecutive Southeastern Conference regular-season title with a league record. It was the Gators second consecutive match versus a top-12 team and these meetings come in a five-day span. Florida defeated No. 11 Tennessee 2-1 Sunday in Knoxville. It was the sixth consecutive time a single goal decided a match between these two programs. Each of the last three meetings were 1-0 wins, as the two teams split in 2016 regular season (USC win) and SEC Tournament action (UF win). This is the ninth time in the all-time series history and the fourth consecutive - that Florida and South Carolina rank in the top-25 for a meeting. The last was in the 2016 SEC Tournament semifinal when then No. 15 Florida defeated then No. 2 South Carolina 1-0. How the Goal Was Scored: In the 80 th minute, Elexa Bahr hit the only goal of the match. She received the ball from Savannah McCaskill and moved through the top of the box. Her shot hit from 12 yards. Florida had opportunities, including in the 67 th minute when Mayra Pelayo brought the ball deep into the Gamecock box. Her cross found Deanna Rose in the box, but her shot was just wide of the far post. For the match, USC outshot the Gators 9-5 and both teams turned in two shots on goal. Celebrate the Gator Seniors: The careers of Gator seniors Kristen Cardano, Jessie Holmes, Cassie Owens and Gabby Seiler were celebrated in a pre-match ceremony. In the last four seasons, Florida owns an overall record of (.782) and (.756) in SEC play, which places UF No. 5 among the nation s programs for wins and winning percentage in that span. The Gators won the 2015 SEC title and two SEC Tournament titles (2015 and 2016) during their playing careers. Two of Florida s seniors were unable to play Thursday. Cardano s collegiate season ended with an anterior cruciate ligament team versus Florida State. Seiler suffered a bone bruise in the Tennessee match and sat out Thursday s match. Florida: , 7-3 SEC South Carolina: SEC What the Gators Said: On today s match: I think there were some stretches when South Carolina controlled parts of the game, but I feel like our team played hard. They did a great job at finishing their chance, and I give credit to them. I m a fan of South Carolina. I think they re one of the best teams in this league, and they have done that consistently. But I also think we have the talent. That s one of the top teams in the country. We have the ability to execute and be right there with them. We have the work ethic to be right there with them. So for me, I mean, my biggest hope is we see them again. - Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh On the impact of Gabby Seiler being sidelined: Missing pieces like her and Kristen [Cardano] shifts things and it changes our depth situation a little bit. I think that showed a little bit tonight, but again, that s just kind of a recent development so we re going to have to work through those because I think we have people who can provide that depth. - Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh On learning from this game: They definitely didn t quit. They showed a lot of grit, particularly at the end of that match. We probably had one of our best chances late. Nobody laid down. Everybody just started to fight, and they kept fighting. I think it was just one of those things that we might have run out of a little steam at different parts of the match, but that something again - we will learn how to deal with loses of players and filling those holes. - Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh On what frustrated the defense early: They were holding a high line the whole game. They are really good at high pressuring everybody. Our coaches just told us at halftime to just play how we played in the first half. I think we both did a good job of pressuring each other really high. It was just unfortunate at the end, but it was a really good first half and second half for both of us. junior defender Julia Lester On how well Florida played a team of this caliber: They re one of the top teams in the country, and we definitely gave them a challenge. I think they out played us a little bit tonight but our energy, our effort was totally there, and we re excited to see them again. Hopefully we meet them in the SEC Tournament. junior midfielder Sarah Troccoli Rankings: Florida ranks No. 17 on the United Soccer Coaches poll and South Carolina is No. 3. 24 RV Auburn 0 No. 17 Florida 1 Oct. 31, 2017 Orange Beach Sportsplex Orange Beach, Ala. ORANGE BEACH, Ala. A free kick goal off the right foot of junior Laís Araujo sends the Florida soccer team ahead to the Southeastern Conference Tournament semifinal round. That goal gave the Gators a 1-0 win over Auburn Tuesday afternoon at the Orange Beach Sportsplex. The win advances Florida to its 20 th SEC Tournament semifinal appearance. In Thursday s semifinal action, Florida faces No. 11 Texas A&M - a 7-1 winner over Missouri in today s first match of the quarterfinal round. This was the second meeting between Florida and Auburn this month. When the two teams met in Auburn on Oct. 15, Auburn took a 1-0 win. This is the second time in the program's 23 SEC Tournament appearances that Florida opened the tournament with a win versus an opponent it lost to in regular-season play. How the Goal Was Scored: The season s first free kick attempt for Laís Araujo scored in the 31 st minute. A foul gave the Gators the 20- yard kick left of the Tigers box. The strike went in untouched to give Araujo her second goal of the season. Florida preserved its ninth shutout of the season with a strong defensive effort. If a shot got through, junior goalkeeper Kaylan Marckese was there to make the stop as Marckese registered her 20 th career shutout Tuesday. In the 14th minute, Marckese made the stop on Ellie Leek s shot in the box off a clearance deflection. Marckese also registered the save on Courtney Schell s free kick from the top of the box in the 27th minute. For the match, the Gators outshot the Tigers and held a 5-3 advantage for shots-on-goal. Florida: 14-5, 7-3 SEC Auburn: 7-6-5, SEC What the Gators Said: On Florida s win after three consecutive losses to Auburn: It was great to get the monkey off our back. It was a hard-fought match. It was a great finish by Laís [Araujo] on the free kick. We weathered the storm at the end. Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh What led to decision for Laís Araujo to take her first free kick of season? We ve been working on those a little bit more in practice. She s been pretty consistent in practice. Only the people who practice free kicks can take them in the games. She stepped up and stuck it. Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh This was your first free kick of the season. What led to you stepping up to take this kick? We ve been practicing the free kicks a lot coming early, staying after practice. It s something we ve been working on. I finally got the shot and I was very happy it went in. junior midfielder Laís Araujo Florida played a three-back today. How did that go for the team? It is something we really haven t really played a lot. It is something new, especially with Parker [Roberts] moving to the back in the last few games. We switched to the four-back and that felt more natural. With the three-back, I think it is something we can use as well. We just need to tone in a little bit more going forward. The win sends the Aggies to Sunday s championship match versus Arkansas, who advanced to its second straight SEC Tournament final with a 4-2 penalty kick advantage over Vanderbilt in Thursday s opening match at the Orange Beach Sportsplex. The Gators were looking for their 18 th SEC Tournament final appearance in the program s 23-year history. Florida owns 12 tournament titles, including the 2015 and 2016 crowns. How the Goals Were Scored: A low strike from 22 yards from junior Sarah Troccoli gave the Gators a 1-0 halftime lead. Briana Solis brought the ball to the top of the box where she fought for control with Aggie defenders. Texas A&M s clearance attempt sent the ball into space above the box. Troccoli took two steps and then sent a blast that went in at the far post in the 30 th minute. It was Troccoli s third goal of the season, with all coming in the last five matches. Texas A&M freshman Rheagen Smith tied the match in the 69th minute. Kendall Ritchie played a long ball into the box that Smith ran down to score from 12 yards. Smith is the daughter of Gator and NFL Great Emmitt Smith. In the first overtime, another Aggie long ball sent into the box resulted in the golden goal. Junior Sara Wilson s clearance attempt came off her head and went in at the far upper slot of the goal in the 97th minute to give the Aggies the win. The game-winner came just after junior goalkeeper Kaylan Marckese made two huge saves in the 97 th minute. Stephanie Malherbe took a shot inside the box that Marckese deflected. With the ball now at the top of the box, Ally Watts tried to chip it but Marckese scrambled back to tip the ball over the crossbar for an Aggie corner kick. For the match, Texas A&M outshot the Gators Marckese turned in four saves. Florida: 14-6, 7-3 SEC Texas A&M: , 9-1 SEC What the Gators Said: On today s performance by the Gators: I was really pleased with how we played. It was a very tough ending. Love to be playing in the final on Sunday. But I love what we gained from this tournament. I loved how we played today. It was a much different game than how we played at A&M the first time. I think it showed a lot of progress. - Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh What did you learn about this team? Think there is a grittiness to this team that we didn t see as much of during the regular season. We had some versatility in the way we played, whether it was the system or the personnel. It showed some options we have. It was a good week for us. - Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh On her goal: Bri [Solis] did all the work. She dribbled through the defense and got tackled. The ball popped out. We had been working on those types of strikes in practice so I just finished it. junior midfielder Sarah Troccoli What did you think of the Gators performance today? Honestly, I m really proud of this team. We are all really proud of each other because we played really well and fought hard. We are looking forward to moving on [in NCAA] because we feel really good about how we played. That finish was really unlucky but we learned a lot about ourselves and how hard we can fight. junior midfielder Sarah Troccoli Thought on today s performance: I thought it was an overall a really good performance. We fought really hard and had a lot of opportunities. We were in their end [of field] for a good portion. It was a little unlucky at the end. I think we can use this going forward into the NCAA Tournament. senior captain Gabby Seiler How it felt to return to lineup after missing the regular-season finale with an injury? Florida soccer opened NCAA Soccer play with a 3-1 win over South Alabama Friday at the Donald R. Dizney Stadium. With the win, No. 3 regional seed Florida advances to play the South Florida vs Florida Gulf Coast winner next Friday. The USF-FGCU match is set for Saturday at 1 p.m. in Tampa. How the Goals Were Scored: Quick passing led to Florida s opening goal in the 34 th minute. From the top of the box, the ball from Sarah Troccoli found Gabby Seiler making a run down the left side of the box. Seiler took a touch to bring the ball deeper, then sent the ball across the mouth of the goal where Madison Alexander touched it in from six yards. Junior Melanie Monteagudo took on a pair of Jaguar defenders to score shortly before halftime. Just above the top corner of the box, Monteagudo drove left, then turned to head across the top of the box. Her rightfooted 19-yard shot curled to catch the inside of the far post to kick in at 43:51. With just under 10 minutes into the second half, Florida pushed the lead out to 3-0. Monteagudo beat her defenders to pass to Troccoli wide of the box. Troccoli s 12-yard one-touch shot scored at the far upper slot at 54:03. Audrey Duren hit the Jaguars goal in the 85 th minute when she intercepted a Gator back pass to score from eight yards. Worth Noting: Florida advances after its opening NCAA match for the 17 th time in the program s 21 appearances. Alexander s goal was her third of the season and second of the last six matches. Monteagudo s goal was her first of the 2017 and the ninth in the last two seasons. She is the 13 th Gator to score in 2017, matching the highest number of UF scorers in a season since 2006 (also 13 in 2014, 2011 and 2006). Troccoli s goal was her fourth of the season with all coming in the last six matches. Florida has scored three goals in six of its last 11 NCAA Opening Round matches, including three of the last four seasons. The Gator win halted South Alabama s seven-match win stretch, which included winning the Sun Belt Conference Tournament title last week with a three-match combined score of Although the two universities are just less than 400 miles apart, this was the first meeting between Florida and South Alabama. South Alabama senior Rio Hardy shares No. 4 on the NCAA current career goal leader chart at 43. The central players that hold in the 2 (of a formation) are a really big part of that because a lot of attacks are thwarted before they even become attacks because of them. Tess (Sapone), Bri (Solis) and Danielle (Van Liere) were all a part of that. Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh On what the team will work on next week to prepare for NCAA Second Round: I think the big focus for us this week will be us. It will be about what we do and how to refine some things.
