MAXIMUM LEAGUES vs. EXTREME-TEAM LEAGUES Maximum Leagues are administered by Maximum Darts Inc. who establishes all rules, fees, payouts, and rewards related to the Maximum Darts programs and systems. This document encompasses details pertaining to the Maximum Darts programs and systems. Extreme-Team leagues are administered by PPD (Partners Promoting Darts) who establishes all rules, fees, payouts, and rewards related to the PPD programs and systems that includes the TOC (Tournament of Champions). For details pertaining to the PPD s programs, please refer to dartstoc.com 1 THE FIVE WORST OFFENSES 1.1 SANDBAGGING ANY PLAYER INTENTIONALLY MANIPULATING STATISTICS WILL BE EXPELLED FROM ALL PROGRAMS. THIS WILL ALSO RESULT IN A BAN ON PARTICIPATION FOR A LENGTH OF TIME AS DETERMINED BY THE LEAGUE ADMINISTRATORS. 1.2 NO SHOW / NO CALL FAILURE TO SHOW UP FOR A MATCH OR NOT PROVIDING AT LEAST TWO HOURS NOTICE TO THE OTHER TEAM WILL RESULT IN A $50 FINE FOR THE TEAM. TWO NO SHOW/NO CALL OFFENSES WILL RESULT IN THE OFFENDING TEAM TO BE REMOVED FROM THE SCHEDULE AND ALL MATCHES AND PAYOUTS FORFEITED. THIS WILL ALSO RESULT IN A BAN ON PARTICIPATION FOR A LENGTH OF TIME AS DETERMINED BY THE LEAGUE ADMINISTRATORS. 1.3 DROPOUTS IF A PLAYER DROPS OUT WITHOUT REPLACING THEMSELVES, THEY WILL FORFEIT ALL PAYOUTS / EARNINGS AND ANY MONIES PAID. THIS WILL ALSO RESULT IN A BAN ON PARTICIPATION FOR A LENGTH OF TIME AS DETERMINED BY THE LEAGUE ADMINISTRATORS. See Dropouts in Section 2 for more information 2
1.4 ILLEGAL PLAYERS IT IS FORBIDDEN FOR ANY PLAYER TO THROW ANY DARTS DURING ANOTHER PLAYERS TURN! IF IT HAPPENS ACCIDENTALLY USE THE UNTHROW FEATURE TO CORRECT IT. SUBSTITUTE PLAYERS ARE ALLOWED AS LONG AS THEY FIT WITHIN THE TEAM CAP LIMIT. THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO NO CAP LEAGUES SINCE THEY DO NOT HAVE A LIMIT. 1.5 DELAY OF GAME RESPECT THE OTHER TEAMS BY STARTING ON TIME AND KEEPING THE MATCH FLOWING. OTHER THAN AT AGREED UPON BREAK TIMES BETWEEN GAMES, EACH GAME SHOULD START IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE PREVIOUS ONE FINISHES. IF THE PLAYER IS NOT AT THE LINE DURING THEIR TURN ALLOW THE SHOT CLOCK TO EXPIRE. DO NOT TAMPER WITH THIS. DELAYING THE START OF A MATCH BEYOND 30 MINUTES OF THE SCHEDULED MATCH TIME MAY RESULT IN PENALTIES. INTENTIONAL AND FREQUENT DELAYS ARE SUBJECT TO THE FOLLOWING PENALTIES: Five (5) game penalty Point deduction on the rank list for team captain and/or entire team Player status marked ineligible for pending league and/or tournament registration during an appropriate probationary period to be determined at League Administrator s discretion Expulsion from league In addition to or in lieu of the above penalties, a $25 penalty processing fee is assessed against the league winnings of any team being penalized 2 GENERAL RULES 2.1 GAME TYPES 501 Open In / Open Out Stacked One score per team where teammates work together to reduce the score to zero. Open In / Open Out refers to no requirements for starting or ending the match with a double or triple score. You may finish on a single, double, triple, or bull. 501 Freeze Two scores per team where each player has their own 501 score to reduce to zero. The game is over when one player reaches exactly zero. Freeze rule prevents a player from winning the game unless his partners score is less than the combined score of both opponents. When a player is FROZEN, they may continue to reduce their score, or pass their turn by pressing the red button. Passing a turn has no effect on a player s PPD average. If a player reduces their score to zero while FROZEN, the game is over and the win is awarded to the other team. 3
Cricket/200 Standard cricket game with SPLIT BULL (25/50). The 200 refers to being limited to a maximum of 200 points ahead in points. After a 200 point lead, any darts thrown at a scoring target are not counted. 2.2 LEAGUE DURATION REGULAR format leagues are setup so that each team plays the other team twice, with both teams having home team advantage once. Six teams = 10 weeks or Eight teams = 14 weeks RAPID format leagues are setup so that each team plays the other team only once. In this situation, Corking is required to determine home team advantage for each match. The number of weeks played depends on the number of teams registered. 2.3 PRIZES / REWARDS Players compete for prizes that are awarded based on skill and performance. Prizes vary depending on the league type. 2.4 COSTS Sanctioning Fees An annual league sanctioning fee of $25 is paid by each player to Maximum Darts Inc. This sanctioning fee is used to enable players to participate in North American events with over $2,000,000 in prizes available to be won. The sanctioning period is from July 15 to July 14 of the following year. Players who register for league play at any time during this period are required to pay the fee. Substitute players that play less than 10 matches are exempt from this fee League Match Fees League fees range from $10-$15 for each match depending on the league being played and are paid directly into the dart board at the beginning of each match. League fees include the cost of games for the match. No additional coin drop is required. 2.5 TEAM CAPTAINS Team Captains are responsible for their team adhering to all league rules. Captains must make available their contact information and agree to allow this information to be distributed among the other team captains in the league for the purpose of assisting in rescheduling missed matches, and other common communication needs. When forming a team, team captains must assess all potential players for dedication to play and pay. At the time of registration, team captains accept responsibility for collecting team fees and setting up each league match. 4
2.6 AGE REQUIREMENTS Maximum Darts does not impose age restrictions for participating in league play. Younger players are encouraged to participate in the youth dart leagues. Youth players that have displayed an appropriate level of maturity and decorum may participate in adult leagues with written permission from their legal guardian. Some locations may have age requirements. It is best to check with the venue to determine if there are any age restrictions for that location. 2.7 THE SHOOTER S ADVANTAGE A dart thrown that sticks, but does not score may be scored manually by agreement of both teams. A dart that flights another dart as it goes in is left scored as the board decides. Only darts that were not registered or registered incorrectly by the machine due to a machine malfunction, or darts thrown too soon can be dealt with by backing up the game and manually scoring. Stop the match by pressing the back-up button, call the other team and explain what you need to do. If necessary you may continue to push the back-up button until the situation can be discussed in detail with the opposing team. 2.8 REMOTE CAMERA MALFUNCTION If the locations internet speed is degraded, loss of camera function is possible. In the event of a camera malfunction, STOP PLAY IMMEDIATELY. Use the up arrow to pause the game. If the camera malfunction persists, suspend the match by removing the power plug at the back of the machine and plug it back in after 15 seconds. If the match is a remote league match, the game will be saved in the Remote Leagues menu. The match can then be resumed on a different board. 2.9 PLAYER ETIQUETTE & GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP Players are required to conduct themselves in a positive manner at all times. Misguided competitiveness is not an excuse. Alcohol is not an excuse. Remote play can add unexpected and unusual concerns. Work with the other team to resolve a problem as quickly and reasonably as possible. In remote play, throwing practice darts during your opponents their turn is considered poor darting etiquette. If you are asked to discontinue this by the opposing team, please do so immediately. All remote matches are recorded. Reports of misconduct will be reviewed by the league administrators. During local play, show respect to all other players. Always stand at least 3 feet behind the throw line when you are waiting for your turn. Do not talk to or direct comments to the player during their turn. Maximum Darts has a zero tolerance policy regarding poor sportsmanship or unethical conduct. Negative, aggressive or abusive behavior of any kind will result in penalty. We reserve the right to 5
address any misconduct during match play or outside of match play. Inappropriate behaviour will result in disciplinary action and/or expulsion from this program at sole discretion of Maximum Darts DROPOUTS Sometimes players must drop out during the season. Players are financially responsible for all league fees including matches that are forfeited. These fees will be deducted from any earnings. In the event that earnings are insufficient to compensate for missing league fees, the outstanding balance must be paid to Maximum Darts Inc. Players with a negative account balance will be restricted from participation until balance is paid. The best solution is for the player to find a replacement player that fits within the TEAM CAP. The new player will then be responsible for the remaining league fees and both players will be awarded any prizes proportionally based on the number of games played. IF A PLAYER DROPS OUT WITHOUT REPLACING THEMSELVES, THEY WILL NOT QUALIFY FOR ANY PAYOUTS/EARNINGS AS WELL AS A BAN ON PARTICIPATING IN MAXIMUM DARTS LEAGUES FOR A LENGTH OF TIME AS DETERMINED BY THE LEAGUE ADMINISTRATORS. If an entire team drops out of a league without replacing themselves, the impact to the other teams in the league is significant. In this situation, the offending team will not qualify for any payouts/earnings as well as a ban on participating in Maximum Darts leagues for a length of time as determined by the league administrators. In the eventuality of the loss of an entire team, the league admins will take one of two actions depending on the particular league format and the number of matches played by the offending team: 1) Teams that were involved in matches played will receive credit for the games played and the league point(s) for the match(es) played. The teams that did not play the offending team will receive credit for the games played and wins based on the team s win %. 2) Forfeiture of all matches scheduled with the offending team. In this scenario, league fees will be refunded to the teams that already played the offending team. No wins or credit for games played will be awarded. Any surplus monies created by the dropping out of a team or a player will be placed into the Maximum Darts Youth Player s Fund to assist in the furthering of the youth dart leagues Match Forfeits Match forfeits should be avoided whenever possible. If a forfeit is the only reasonable option to complete the league matches, a forfeited match score is awarded to both teams by determining their 6
respective overall win percentage with one bonus game win awarded to the non-offending team and minus one game for the offending team. In most situations, the one plus, one minus correction is sufficient to maintain balance in the league standings. In circumstances where the offending team has a significantly unusual win percentage, further evaluation may be required and the game wins awarded to the non-offending team may be adjusted at the discretion of Maximum Darts. In cases where offending and non-offending status cannot be determined; or when no communication is given between teams as to the status of the reschedule or the make-up, match score is zero wins to both teams. Since total prize payout and cost of games are based on the completion of all matches, league fees for matches forfeited will be deducted from both teams league winnings. Any ranking points related to the match will be awarded to both teams. NOTE: Use of league discretion in enforcing any rules related to a no call/no show match, rescheduled match or match forfeit is based on both teams willingness to reschedule a match. In a situation that appears to be a possible manipulation of stats by a team, league officials may allow the most advantageous consideration to the more willing team at PPD official discretion. IMPORTANT: Once a team reaches THREE (3) reschedules, that team will be expelled from the league and turned into a BYE, forfeiting all privileges. To avoid this penalty, reschedules MUST be called into the league office a minimum of four (4) hours PRIOR to scheduled match. During this call, the make-up date for the reschedule must be turned in as well. For teams that played the offending team prior to their expulsion, please see Section B for details concerning credit for night/games played and match refunds 3 Scheduling / Timing 3.1 START TIMES League start time is stated on the league schedule. League matches may start earlier or later if both teams agree prior to the scheduled date and time of the match. Teams are allowed a thirty (30) minute grace period to start the match. If a team does not have all players present and able to start a match thirty (30) minutes post league match start time, the team that is present should text their local league coordinator. The message is necessary to give a report of the situation and to log the time. All efforts must be made to have a match concluded, even when it has started late. Penalties may be applied to teams who start late. When there are problems, play the match if possible and then report details of the situation to your local league coordinator. Work with league officials to help decide how best to resolve any conflict. Screen captures of text communication is useful for fairly resolving any complaints. 7
3.2 GHOSTING / DUMMY PLAYER League matches may be played with a missing player by pressing the red button to advance past the vacant spot. If both teams are aware of a player that will be late and wish to start the match, ghosting may be done in the missing players spot until said player shows up and can start or resume play. League fees for ghost/dummy must be paid before the match will commence. 3.3 HANDSHAKE At the beginning of the match, both Captains should communicate to determine if the match is ready to start. In most cases, once both teams are logged in and ready to start, an on-screen thumbs up is all that s needed. If a team is logged in but NOT ready to start, a phone call or text is appropriate. 3.4 SHOOTING ORDER The Captain may alter the shooting order of his team at the start of the match. The normal shooting order is by order of player rating with the highest rated player shooting first. This is also the most advantageous shooting order for the team. 3.5 PAUSING/RESUMING MATCH In the event of a loss of power or internet connectivity, the Galaxy 3 s will resume the game where it was interrupted when service is restored to normal. To force an interruption, simply pull out the power plug at the back of the machine and plug it back in after 15 seconds. The G3 s exhibit two different behaviours depending on whether the match was a remote match or a local match. 1) In remote league play, an interrupted match will be saved within the Remote League menu and can be resumed at any time normal service is restored. Simply select Continue Interrupted Match 2) In local league play, an interrupted match can only be played immediately after service is restored. If you choose not to play immediately, the match is cancelled and would have to be re-played from the beginning. For this reason, it is best to always choose Remote League whenever there are enough machines available. 3.6 RESCHEDULING MATCHES Rescheduling a match is permitted but not encouraged. When a scheduling conflict exists a match can be played ahead of schedule or later. All teams must be prepared to play on any available night to resolve a missed match. It is each team s responsibility to make up a missed match, regardless of why the match was missed or who was at fault. The primary goal is to prevent a team from becoming a bye due to missed matches. 8
When a match reschedule is required, both team captains MUST inform their local league coordinator. This enables the league coordinator to arrange alternate matches whenever possible. Match reschedules require a minimum of two hour notification to the opposing team. Teams found not to provide ample notification may be subject to penalties. 3.7 TIME-OUTS BREAKS Two short breaks (e.g 5-8 minutes) during the match are permissible although keeping the play flowing will avoid playing late or impacting the start time of the next league. When playing remotely, coordinate breaks by calling or texting and take breaks before starting the next game. IMPORTANT ETIQUETTE: If during a break, one team accidentally presses the red button to start game the machine displays waiting for. When the other team returns from break and presses the red button, the game will automatically start. If the other team has not returned yet, the shot clock will countdown and they may lose their turn. To avoid this, ALWAYS COMMUNICATE AND ENSURE BOTH TEAMS ARE READY TO PLAY AFTER BREAK. If this situation occurs, the other team must press the up arrow button to pause the game and both teams will use the up arrow and unthrow function to back up to the beginning of the game. The game can only be paused briefly so breaks must be kept short and to a minimum. 3.8 SHOT CLOCK Each player is expected to be at the throw line and ready to throw when it is their turn. The normal player change over time of seven seconds is ample time to get to the line. The shot clock allows 45 seconds for a player to throw each dart. If the shot clock expires, the player loses their turn and play automatically advances to the next player. IT IS FORBIDDEN FOR ANY PLAYER TO THROW ANY DARTS DURING ANOTHER PLAYERS TURN! Tampering with the shot clock, such as pressing the up arrow button is NOT allowed, unless there is an error or dispute and the game needs to be paused. Plan your breaks properly and be ready to throw when it is your turn to play. NOTE: A missed dart, not detected, cannot stop the shot clock. The next dart will have to be thrown before the shot clock gets to zero to avoid losing any remaining darts of that turn. 3.9 DELAY OF GAME Respect the other teams by starting on time and keeping the match flowing. Other than at agreed upon break times, each game should start immediately after the previous one finishes. Delaying the start of the next game for seconds when waiting for a player to be ready is permissible when it happens occasionally. Intentional and frequent delays are subject to penalties. 9
4 CAPS / HANDICAPS 4.1 HANDICAP Spot Points ( 01) In 01 games, the highest rated player(s) will start at 501. The other player(s) will be given a head start, (up to 301), based on the difference in player ratings. Spot Marks (Cricket) in Cricket, the lower rated player(s) will be awarded starting marks based on the difference in player ratings. The number of marks awarded range from NONE to 14. This may require altering your cricket strategy depending on the number of marks awarded. Reverse handicap ( 01) Instead of reducing the lower rated players score, reverse handicap increases the higher rated player s score to a maximum of TEAM CAP The handicap system is designed to equalize the games to compensate for slight variations in player skill level. The handicap system cannot compensate for large variations, therefore a Cap or limit is imposed on the overall skill level of the team. If a team exceeds this CAP for more than two weeks, or has a win percentage of 70% or more, additional handicapping measures may be implemented, (such as having to pass turns), or the team may be required to reform the team roster by replacing players in order to stay under the CAP level. Therefore, it is very important to know your player s rating and form your teams to stay within the stated TEAM CAPs. 4.3 SUBSTITUTE PLAYERS Teams may use a substitute player in place of a player at the beginning of the set as long as the combined player ratings of the team do not exceed the TEAM CAP. New subs may be used except for the last two weeks of league and play-off matches. An exception to this rule is subs may be used for matches that will not have an effect on the final league standings. League fees are paid by the substitute player and they will earn a percentage of the team payouts proportional to the number of games played. Substitute players will also receive any match play points earned and the number of games played will be added to their overall total. The substitute player must be entered manually at the board at the beginning of the match and in some cases at the beginning of a set. Always use both First & Last names. The substitute player s handicap may also be manually entered. If no handicap is entered, the player will default to the rating of the highest known player rating in the match. 10
If the substitute is an existing Maximum Darts player, the rating used will be their current rating as per the dartstoc.com All Star Ranking List. If the player does not have a rating on the All Star list, then their highest current rating from any Maximum Darts league will be used. In the event none of these options are available, or the player is not an existing Maximum Darts player, then reasonable and fair estimations must be used. If a player is performs significantly higher than the estimated handicap rating, the match results may be manually adjusted after the fact, by the League Administrator. These are the minimum default handicaps: Men-23 PPD & 2.5 MPR (57.5) Women-18 PPD & 1.75 MPR (31.5) 11
APPENDIX A: CORKING IN REMOTE LEAGUES Typically, leagues are configured so that each team plays every other team twice and each team receives the home team advantage once. In some leagues or in tournaments, it may be necessary to cork to determine who receives the home team advantage. When both teams are remote from each other, corking is performed by utilizing a special league setup. Cork leagues are set up as a two player league with one round of Countup and a split 25/50 bull. Teams set up the Cork league the same as any other remote league. For the purpose of Corking, the home team is the team that is listed as home on the schedule or on the top half of the tournament bracket. Shooting order for each team may be adjusted if desired. In the game, the first players for each team throws 3 darts on their turn. The winner of the Cork is the player with the highest score. Since the bull is split, Triple 20 is the preferred target. If a winner is determined, simply pass the 2 nd player s turn by pressing the red button. In the event of a tie, the second players will each throw 3 darts on their turn. In the event a tie remains, the Cork match is restarted with the next players on the team roster until a winner is determined. Exit the Cork league and go back to Remote League to set up the actual league or tournament match. The winner of the Cork will now enjoy home team advantage. Walkthrough: Start with Play Remote League Choose the Cork League: 12
