3 Kicks from the Mark What Are They? Kicks from the Mark A way to decide the winner of a match following a tied game only if the rules of the competition require a winner. (sometimes incorrectly called Penalty Kick Shootouts)

5 The Taking of Kicks from the Penalty Mark Goal - The referee shall select which goal will to be used for the kicks. Coin Toss - The team who wins the coin toss decides whether to kick first or second. Referee and ARs - Keep a record of kicks taken and goals scored.

6 Eligible Kickers Kickers - Only players on the field at the end of the game (overtime) are eligible to kick eleven (11) maximum for each team. Reduce to Equate - Before beginning the kicks each team will have an equal number of kickers. If, before the kicks start, the teams have an unequal number of eligible players then that team with the more eligible players must reduce its number to match that of its opponent.

7 Location of Players Eligible Kickers All player s eligible to kick (except the kicker and the two GKs) shall remain within the center circle during the kicks. Goalkeeper GK of kicker s team shall stand on the Goal Line at the corner of the Penalty Area Team Personnel All other players, coaches and team personnel are not allowed on the field of play and shall remain in the team area.

9 Eligible Players Goalkeeper - Any eligible player may change places with the GK at any time. Kickers - The eligible players on a team may kick in any order of their choosing, i.e. a team is not required to designate to the referee the order of kickers participating. Different Kickers - Each kick must be taken by a different player and all eligible players (including the GK) must take a kick before any player can take a second kick.

10 Taking of Kicks from the Mark Alternate Kicks - Conducted in pairs, one from each team, for an initial round of five pairs. Winner - Team with most goals after each team has taken 5 kicks. Tie-Score If tied after 5 kicks by each team, kicks from the mark will continue, but only in single pairs.

11 Taking of Kicks from the Mark Tie-Breaker Kicks will continue to be taken one pair at a time until a winner is determined. Subsequent Rounds If kicks from the mark proceed beyond all eligible players into a second round (or subsequent rounds), players are not required to kick in the same order as in any previous round.

12 Taking of Kicks from the Mark Substitutions - Only an injured goalkeeper may be substituted. No other substitutions are allowed. Eligible Players - If during the kicks the number of eligible players on one team is reduced due to a send off or injury, the opposing team will not further reduce to equate. Less Than 7 Players - Kicks will continue so long as a team has at least one (1) eligible player.

13 Taking of Kicks from the Mark LAW 14 Requirements and procedures govern for the taking of kicks from the mark. Kicker Violation If the kicker violates Law 14 and a goal is scored, the kick must be retaken. Goalkeeper Violation If the goalkeeper violates Law 14 and a goal is not scored, the kick must be retaken. Kicker May not touch the ball a second time.

14 BRAIN TEASER #11 In the Kicks from the Mark, the two teams are still tied after each team has taken eleven (11) kicks. On the 12 th kick the Green team misses. The 12 th kicker for the Gold team is the same player that just took the 11 th kick for his team. The Referee allows this player to take the kick, which the opposing coach protests after the kick was scored to win the game. The Referee then rescinded the goal and had another Gold player retake the kick. This was a correct decision by the Referee. TRUE FALSE

15 BRAIN TEASER #12 A tied match must go to Kicks from the Mark. The Blue team won the coin toss and elects to kick first. The Red team had one player sent off during the first half and a second player sent off during the second extra time period. A third Red player is red carded for striking a Blue player, as she was leaving the center circle to take the first kick for her team. No other players from either team received a red card. How many Blue players are eligible to participate in Kicks from the Mark?
